Sun, sea, sand, and a hint of the exotic: Sicily teeters on the edge of Europe and its flavors are tinged with the culinary heritage of north Africa. Come ready to spend a very different week, with a lot of new experiences; Italian experiences. Just relax and look forward to enjoying good food and good wine, your guide to the Italian life. Be prepared to flow with the Italian pace of life and be open to new cultures, landscapes, and history. And be ready to meet the new people that will become your family for the week!
You will spend your seven nights in Women's Own Adventure's home in Sicily, a gorgeous old 19th-century farmhouse (masseria) on a private estate. Surrounded by lovely gardens and with a fabulous pool, it’s the perfect place to kick back and relax after a morning in the kitchen, or to enjoy a pre-dinner Prosecco on the terrace.
The Flavours transfer will meet you at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA) and take you to the villa, where you can enjoy welcome drinks and dinner prepared by the local chef.
After breakfast, your first cookery lesson with the local chef, followed by lunch. You are free in the afternoon to relax at the beautiful Villa Aragonese. Dinner is served at the villa.
Today, you will enjoy a private tour, lunch, and wine tasting at a local vineyard. In the late afternoon, you will have your second hands-on cookery lesson, followed by dinner.
Visit the coastal town of Siracusa and have lunch. Travel to Noto to taste local ice cream at a classic gelateria. Tonight’s dinner will be at Villa Aragonese.
After breakfast, enjoy another hands-on cookery lesson and lunch at the villa. This afternoon is free to relax by the pool. Dinner this evening is at the villa.
Another cookery lesson this morning before heading to Modica to taste its famous chocolate. The afternoon will be spent exploring the stunning town of Ragusa and have an evening meal at a favorite local restaurant.
Following breakfast, a cookery lesson, and lunch, you will be free to relax for the afternoon at the villa by the pool. In the evening, you will enjoy your final meal at the villa.
After breakfast, you have the morning to relax. Depending on travel times, you may take the opportunity to stop off and explore Catania before your flight home.
This holiday will take place in Sicily, Italy. Women's Own Adventure bases themselves in Sicily’s south-east, surrounded by the crumbling grandeur of historical sites such as Siracusa’s Greek Theatre, and the Baroque towns of Noto and Ragusa, and within easy reach of some of the region’s best local produce.
Moorish invaders introduced spices such as cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and saffron along with citrus fruits to the island. The Byzantines, Romans, Greeks, and Spanish also left their mark on the architecture and cuisine. Nearby Avola produces almonds, Ragusa wine, Caciocavallo cheese, and Pachino, sweet ripe cherry tomatoes. Fresh fish is, of course, a highlight of this Mediterranean island: think grilled swordfish, tuna, and anchovies along with regional specialties such as spaghetti con le sarde (a sardine and pasta dish) and pasta con le sarde e finnochio (with fennel). Then there’s sheep’s milk ricotta, which is also used to make one of Sicily’s signature sweets. Cannoli are fried pastries stuffed with sweet ricotta and sugar and dipped in chocolate. The island is famous, in fact, for its sweets: cassata is a delicious ice cream dish while granita, a semi-frozen dessert was invented here.
The nearest airport to the location is Catania-Fontanarossa Airport (CTA). Women’s Own Adventure will pick you up from the airport at agreed transfer time. The pick-up is included in the price.
