Booked this restaurant after reading about it on Eater San Diego, the welcome we received from the owners Chris and Mary was fantastic. Mary is a very calm and unassuming person who makes you feel completely at ease and because we had travelled from Ireland gave us two complimentary drinks to begin with. Food was full of flavours and wine was expertly matched. It was a Thursday night so it was the three course menu , I started with the ravioli, then had the tuna and finishes with the panna cotta. Evening went so well and there was a very pleasant atmosphere. Chef Gregory came out to speak to us and he was a very affable guy wiling to answer all questions. Chris talked about his wine interest and produced two complimentary pear cognacs, a fantastic evening. An absolutely cracking spot if you like nice food and nice wine at a reasonable price.

Third floor of a gray house in a cool area off of India avenue. Relaxed, casual, welcoming atmosphere. The entire front of house was warming, informed and wonderful.

Selected the 3 course tasting menu/ prix fixe with wine pairing. So glad that I did...

Bright, crispy sweet tart Brussels sprouts in a zesty garlic chili sauce. Tremendous, I've learned to love sprouts again. Hints of honey from the Hernanons Verdelho wine.

Pil pil Spanish shrimp, with roasted garlic in a chorizo and potato base chili sauce. Perfectly cooked shrimp. These two dishes balance each other well.

Swordfish on a soft bed of orzo with a lemon relish and a blended sweet pepper tapenade. Great fish, a good example of swordfish done right. I might have paired with something a little less sweet and fruity, but on its own the 2013 etre chard is amazing.

Should mention - perfect portioning of food. Not too little, not too much. Just right.

Semi sweet white chocolate cheesecake with a sweet citrus sauce and a killer black pepper and strawberry compote. These components together are a song, and paired with a Chiarlo moscato the course just sings. (Sorry, couldn't help it)

The prices are as reasonable as you'll ever find for food of this quality. 26 for three courses, 15 for the wine pairing.

All things considered I may have found my new favorite in San Diego. Send your friends here and you'll look like a genius. (Don't forget to come back yourself) :)

A group of 7 completely enjoyed the Chappellet winemakers dinner last night. The food was absolutely stellar! I think we all agreed the decomposed ramen dish was our favorite, but the corn chowder was a very close second! Every dish was amazing however. I hope they put both on the regular menu! Bravo!

Amazing wine and food, great mix of hip, cool and sophisticated people and you get an education on wine that is enjoyable and interesting at the Wine Makers Dinners. Check it out!
