Day 1: Mikulov Castle - wine tasting - private dinner in your wine hotel

You will be picked up at a meeting point in the center of Prague by an English-speaking driver and your guide, who is very knowledgeable in wine and the heritage of the region. Then you'll have a mini-van transfer to Moravia region (duration: 3 hours).

Your first stop will be the beautiful and historical city of Mikulov, the capital of wine in the Moravian region. Its urban conservation area belongs to UNESCO Czech heritage. After the journey, you'll have a nice lunch in the center of the city to enjoy fresh and creative food.

Wine Travel in Czech will bring you to Mikulov’s main touristic sight - an imposing and majestic chateau perched on a rock where you’ll enjoy a private guided tour to admire its impressive library and especially its cellar, where you will see a remarkable giant barrel dating from 1,643, which is one of the largest ones in Europe with a volume of approximately 135,000 bottles.

After the visit, you’ll have the chance to taste the award winning Czech wines in the winery, which has been honored with the title of "winery of the year" several times. Wine Travel in Czech will take you to its ancient wine cellar, where you will have the exclusive opportunity to enjoy fine wines.

You'll finally be brought to your charming and authentic hotel, an ancient winery with a beautiful courtyard and traditional wine cellar located in a beautiful small village featuring traditional architecture and landscapes. There, you will enjoy a private dinner featuring seasonal and local products pairing beautifully with local wines in the charming restaurant at the hotel that takes you back in time to the days of the great-grandmothers. You'll indulge in traditional Czech cuisine and homemade dishes made from freshly sourced products. Enjoy a night in the wine hotel.

Day 2: Wine tastings - Palava Hills - walk in the vineyards

After breakfast, Wine Travel in Czech will bring you to the newly opened Archaeological Park located in the Palava Nature Reserve. There, you’ll be more familiar with the region and understand why wine grows so happily there. Your first wine stop of the day will be in a nice rustic wine room where Pinots are kings. There, the wine producer and Wine Travel in Czech's wine expert will introduce you to the vineyards of Pálava hills.

After lunch, and next on the menu is a visit to a winery, which is particularly well-known for its great red and sparkling wines. You will uncover the story behind the production of sparkling wines and, of course, enjoy a tasting afterwards. Its cellar is just spectacular! Wine Travel in Czech won't tell you more! You will leave the valley and move to another wine destination, which is well-known for its beautiful view at Pálava Hill and surrounding landscape. This winery also belongs to the Czech Republic’s best wineries and is particularly known as a key producer of Rieslings and the local grape variety Pálava.

Weather permitted, after a short walk through the vineyards, you’ll visit a nearby winery. This winery is not only reputed for its excellent wines, but also for its stunning modern architecture, located in the middle of its vineyards. Besides the regular wine tasting, you will gain an insight into the art of wine making and have the unique opportunity to visit their winery production hall. There you'll have a very pleasant dinner on a terrace overlooking the beautiful vineyards and Pálava Hill. Then Wine Travel in Czech will drive you back to your hotel (10-minute drive).

Day 3: Hike or bike - Lednice Castle

After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, your guide and bikes will be waiting for you! There are 11 vineyard cycling trails in the region of South Moravia whose total length is around 1200 kilometers. So, Wine Travel in Czech selected the easiest and most interesting cycling tour.

Cycling is one of the best ways to enjoy the beautiful landscapes right in the middle of the vineyards. For those who prefer hiking, you can return to Mikuolov from where you will hike to another landmark - Holly Hill, (363 meters). Holly Hill, which is part of the Pálava Hills and the hike, which is a popular pilgrimage, will feature a series of beautiful chapels.

Close to Holly Hill is a historic Baroque vicarage, which has been transformed into a stunning garden restaurant. It’s extremely popular for its unique atmosphere, its views and, last but not least, for its fantastic organic food, sourced directly from local farmers. The meals are based on Czech traditions and inspired from a 100-year-old cookery book. Not only will your hunger be more than satisfied, but you will also indulge in a unique gourmet experience.

After lunch in a traditional Moravian restaurant, your final destination will be Chateau Lednice, where you will have a guided walk in the Lednice-Valtice Complex that is included in the UNESCO list. After this final tour you will embark on your final transfer back to Prague (3-hour journey).

Andrea Kotašková

Less than 250 kilometers southeast of the capital, sprawling with quaint villages and hundreds of lush, green vineyards, this is undoubtedly a great undiscovered wine region with a rich wine heritage. Wine growing in this region has been reliably traced back to the Roman Empire period - the 2nd century AD.

Ideally situated north of the Alps and at the Western edge of the Carpathian Mountains, the region benefits from a cooler climate, which excels at white wine production. Spreading over more than 16.5 thousand hectares, the region includes 96% of the country's vineyards. Quality can be outstanding, especially the Moravian whites. Mikulov has certainly the highest concentration of wine cellars for tastings, as well as a fairytale chateau on a hill overlooking the town. Like a guardian, the Pálava Hills, declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, seem to be carefully watching the vines.
