Considered one of the most family-oriented festivities in Greece and a significant celebration within the Greek Orthodox Church, Easter (Pascha in Greek) is celebrated with great glory in every corner of Zakynthos. Encompassing traditional and cultural customs, this Easter program includes a mix of cultural and gastronomic experiences.
During this holiday, you will be staying at Villa Spiros. The accommodation will be in a shared room basis. Villa Spiros features a mixture of three self-catering ground floor rooms and four first floor maisonettes furnished to a high standard in a clean modern style, incorporating everything the discerning holidaymaker or independent traveler will need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. All the rooms are equipped with central heating, carpets, flannel sheets, electric blankets, feather duck quilts, tea and coffee making facilities, a fully equipped kitchen, and an en-suite shower room. Located on the ground floor, all studios are spacious and comfortably furnished. Each studio has a large veranda with a table and chairs for enjoyable and relaxing moments. The modern rooms with two single beds are suitable for two to three people.
The rooms also have a large, wooden wardrobe with fitted security locks, a matching dressing table with a big mirror, a television, and a fully equipped kitchenette with a dining area, a fridge, a kettle and toaster, a shower room, air conditioning, a ceiling fan, central heating, and views to the vineyard.
During this holiday, you will enjoy various amazing experiences, such as cooking Zakynthian delicacies, olive oil and wine tastings, exclusive trips to the countryside, sea, and island, and traditional evening outings.
You will also enjoy activities such as dying and coloring hard boiled Easter eggs and making Easter decorations to take home with you, attending the "Resurrection" parade and midnight church ceremony on Holy Saturday to enjoy the traditional "mageiritsa" dinner, and eating "lamb from the spear” on Easter Sunday. This adventure will be more than a holiday, it will be a memory to cherish particularly impressive for first-time visitors to the island.
Upon arrival to Zakynthos, you will be collected from the Zakynthos International Airport (ZTH) and transferred to your accommodation. You will have time to settle in and soak up the atmosphere and the new surroundings. You will be invited to take part in a shopping trip to the nearby supermarket to shop for your holiday necessities.
Later on, you will attend to a welcome meeting and buffet in the cozy reception and garden to meet your hosts, the Vythoulkas family, and your fellow guests. Your hosts will be delighted to tell you about the traditions during the "Holly Week" so you can familiarize with the proposed itinerary for the week and also answer any questions that you may have.
On this day, you will delight in the traditions and special aromas of the preparations for the coming Easter feast. You will bake “Tsoureki”, a sweet, brioche type of bread, a typical Easter delicacy, and dye red eggs in a traditional organic way to decorate the church procession candles with natural products from the land and the sea.
In the evening, you will dress comfortably to visit the romantic region of Bohali situated at the very top of the wonderful Zakynthos town. You will enjoy a wonderful dinner with magnificent views over the twinkling lights of the town far below, across the harbor, and to the sea. You will marvel at the panoramic vista and let your stresses melt away. The locally produced wines and traditional Greek music will certainly help you along.
Later, you will attend the church ceremony and the candlelit procession that follows the icon of Christ, starting from the church of Chrisopigi through the tiny cobbled streets under the floodlit fortress filled with the scents of spring flowers.
The Holy Saturday, with the resurrection of Jesus celebrated in the midnight service is without a doubt the most important day on the Greek calendar and an amazing communal experience not to be missed. You will wake up at your own pace and enjoy a relaxing spring morning in the lovely Laganas resort. In the famous sweeping bay with the unending sandy beach and wonderful and shallow crystal clear water.
During the evening, you will gather with the group at the reception to enjoy the delicious traditional meal “Mageiritsa”, a lamb casserole made with offal and seasonal greens, herbs, and a lemon and egg sauce, or alternatively, “Kokkinisto” (beef in tomato sauce), and other appetizers that will complement your festive dinner.
After the evening meal, you will visit a local winery to sample some of the finest local Zakynthian wines, which are highly regarded, and also you will meet the owners of the vineyards and family.
Later, you will attend to the short mass to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ at a picturesque mountain monastery nearby. You will join the crowds of local people holding lighted candles to signify the miracle of resurrection. A true Orthodox Greek tradition not to be missed.
The Easter Sunday is a day full of joy and celebration to be together with family and friends to eat, drink, hear music, and dance. You will start early the preparation for the Easter Sunday feast by putting the lamb on the spit to roast slowly, preparing delicious Easter appetizers, and decorating the table. This day is also called "Lambri" (brightness), celebrating the day of the resurrection of Christ.
After the Greek Easter meal, you are welcome to enjoy a leisurely walk towards the picturesque port of Agios Sostis. There is a popular ceramic studio, small taverns, coffee shops, and a stunning seaside cocktail bar where you can enjoy a coffee or your favorite tipple to relax you while you watch the sun go down on another spectacular day.
After breakfast, you will enjoy an exclusive aquatic experience to the heavenly Marathonisi Island remarkably shaped similar to the native sea turtle Caretta Caretta. You will start the trip from the small harbor at Agios Sostis where you will board the small boat "Poseidon" for an exciting sea trip and a short crossing to the breathtaking, tiny, and uninhabited Marathonisi Island.
Its fine powder-like sand, will captivate the water lover and land lover alike. You will have fun combing the beach for fascinating pieces of ocean driftwood and pretty shells, looking out for the little cages lovingly hand-made from sticks which cover and protect the nests of the loggerhead turtles.
During the evening, you will enjoy a visit to the historical Zakynthos Town to discover hidden gems and the amazing history and culture of the old town. You will visit the local market to savor the sights, aromas, and tastes of the fresh local produce and shop for top quality local products.
You will explore the world of traditional sweet-making and taste the wonderful Venetian candies. You will have time on your own to relax in one of the many specialty coffee shops and maybe try the legendary world famous souvlaki (meat on a stick) before heading back to Villa Spiros.
You will wake up at your own pace and enjoy a relaxing spring breakfast. Around mid-day, you will set off for an exciting drive to the north of the island with several gastronomic stops along the way. You will take a delightful boat ride to the world famous Shipwreck Bay for a once in a lifetime swimming experience. If the weather is too windy for the boat, you will still be able to admire the shipwreck from the viewing platform set into the cliff top.
Later, you will enjoy a traditional dinner at the locals’ favorite tavern in Kabi. Not only is this restaurant famous for serving authentic Zakynthian cuisine but also for having lovely owners and the most magical sun set on the whole island. You can relax and take in the captivating views over rugged crags and the shimmering ocean.
Today, you will spend the day at your leisure and in the evening, you will set off for a tour to Keri village, one of the most picturesque villages of Zakynthos combining the best of both worlds with sea and mountain views.
The first stop will be at Lithakia village to visit the olive oil factory museum and taste the wonderful organic liquid gold olive oil on fresh village bread. You will continue the drive towards Keri to visit this beautiful seaside village. Above the village, you will see the traditional lighthouse and the biggest Greek flag ever made flying proudly on its magnificent flag pole.
You will delight in the views to the Mizithres rocks and the Ionian Sea. There is an ample choice of lovely taverns across the coastline to enjoy an amazing, relaxed, and traditional meal if you like. Freshly caught seafood is a must for fish lovers.
During the morning, you will enjoy a final walk to Laganas Main Street or the beach. When the time comes, a driver will take you safely to the airport for your departure. By now, you will truly be feeling like a Zakynthian through and through and definitely like a member of the local family.

This tour is a day dedicated to explore the beautiful countryside with a visit to the Monastery of Iperagathos. You will continue north to arrive at Kabi, a small village, renowned for its beautiful sunset, and then you will enjoy a nice walk to the Mycenaean cemetery.
The region of Vasilikos is popular for its blue flag sandy beaches as well as for the hundreds of turtle nests scattered all along the golden sands protected by little cages. You will visit the turtle museum and Dafni Beach to swim or simply unwind in this spectacular natural paradise.
Kallipado, Tragaki, and Kipseli are three lovely picturesque villages set to the west side of the island, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. You may visit Callinikos winery to taste some great varieties of local wine and the impressive Abeloravdi mansion.
This three picturesque villages retain their traditional characteristics located in the heart of the north part of the island with fertile green slopes and unspoilt natural beauty.
Spend a beautiful day there exploring the surrounding area, walking along Gerakas sandy beach, and visiting a ceramic studio. Pikridiotisa church is a small chapel built on the ruins of a much older church built in the 16th century.
This is a fascinating trip to the very far northern part of Zakynthos to explore the mountain village treasures of Volimes village. You will visit Anafonitria monastery, Agios Gerasimos church, the local market with the local products and handmade textiles, the traditional weaving studio, the Askos animal farm, and the old windmill.
