April 28, Holy Thursday - Arrival day, welcome meeting

  • On arrival to Zakynthos, you will be collected from the airport and transferred to your accommodation. You will have time to settle in and soak up the atmosphere and the new surroundings.
  • You will be invited to take part in a shopping trip to the nearby supermarket to shop for your holiday necessities.
  • Later on we will hold a welcome meeting and buffet in our cozy reception and garden. You will meet your hosts the Vythoulkas family and your fellow guests. Your hosts will be delighted to tell you about the traditions there are during the Holy Week and familiarize you with the weeks proposed itinerary and also answer any questions you may have.

April 29, Holy Friday - Easter feast preparations, candlelit Easter procession

  • Today you can delight in the traditions and special aromas of the preparations for our coming Easter feast. From baking “Tsoureki”, a sweet, brioche type of bread, a typical Easter delicacy and dyeing our red eggs in a traditional organic way to decorating our church procession candles with natural products from the land and sea.
  • In the evening, dress comfortably as we will visit the romantic region of Bohali, situated at the very top of the wonderful Zakynthos town. Here we will enjoy a wonderful dinner with magnificent views out over the twinkling lights of the town far below, across the harbor and out to sea. Marvel at this panoramic vista and let your stresses melt away. The locally produced wines and traditional Greek music will certainly help you along.
  • Later, you will attend the church ceremony and the candlelit procession that follows the icon of Christ, starting from the church of Chrisopigi through the tiny cobbled streets under the floodlit fortress, filled with the scents of spring flowers.

April 30, Holy Saturday Explore Laganas, holy midnight service

  • Holy Saturday, with the Resurrection of Jesus celebrated in the midnight service, is without a doubt the most important day on the Greek calendar and an amazing communal experience not to be missed!
  • Wake up at your own pace and enjoy a relaxing spring morning in the lovely Laganas resort. In the famous sweeping bay, with the unending sandy beach and wonderful, shallow, crystal clear water, you can enjoy a leisurely walk, swimming, snorkelling and if you are lucky, you may even find yourself swimming alongside some of the large, beautiful and extremely graceful loggerhead turtles Caretta Caretta. There is a varied array of idyllic beach bars, restaurants, cafe bars and traditional tavernas. Scuba diving, water sports, boat hire and sun beds are plentiful making it easy to relax, play, and lose track of time enjoying your carefree moments under the Greek sun.
  • In the evening you will gather at reception to enjoy the delicious traditional meal “Mageiritsa” (lamb casserole made with offal, seasonal greens, herbs and a lemon, and egg sauce) or “Kokkinisto” (beef in tomato sauce) and other appetizers that will complement our festive dinner tonight.
  • After tonight’s meal, you will visit a local winery, to sample some of the finest local Zakynthian wines, which are highly regarded and we will meet the owners of the vineyards and family, who all play a vital role in the production of this delightful beverage.
  • Later, we will attend the short mass, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ at a picturesque mountain monastery nearby. We will join the crowds of local people all holding their lighted candles to signify the miracle of resurrection. A Greek Orthodox tradition not to be missed!

May 1, Easter Sunday - Lamb on the spit, evening sea side drinks

  • Easter Sunday, is a day full of joy and celebration, getting together with family and friends eating, drinking, music and dancing. We start early the preparation for our Easter Sunday Feast, by putting the lamb on the spit to roast slowly, preparing delicious Easter appetizers and decorating the table. This day is also called "Lambri" (Brightness), celebrating the day of the Resurrection of Christ. Today is also May 1, and the local tradition is to go to the fields to pick wild flowers and herbs to craft into the traditional wreaths and bouquets, which are hung to symbolize the coming of spring.
  • In the evening, you are welcome to join us for a leisurely walk towards the picturesque port of Agios Sostis. There is a popular ceramic studio, small tavernas, coffee shops and a stunning sea side cocktail bar, where you can enjoy a coffee or your favourite tipple to relax you while you watch the sun go down on another spectacular day.

May 2, Easter Monday - Turtle boat trip, explore the modern Zante town

  • After breakfast, join Villa Spiros for an exclusive aquatic experience to the heavenly “Marathonisi Island", remarkably shaped similar to our native sea turtle Caretta Caretta.
  • Starting your trip from the small harbor at Agios Sostis, you board the small boat "Poseidon" for an exciting sea trip and a short crossing to the breathtaking, tiny, uninhabited "Marathonisi Island". Its fine powder like sand, will captivate the water lovers and land lovers alike.
  • Have fun combing the beach for fascinating pieces of ocean driftwood and pretty shells, look out for the little cages, lovingly hand made from sticks which cover and protect the nests of the loggerhead turtles.
  • In the evening you set off for a visit to the historical Zakynthos Town, to discover hidden gems, the amazing history and culture of the old town. We visit the local market, to savor the sights, aromas and tastes of the fresh local products and shop for top quality local products.
  • Explore the world of traditional sweet making and taste the wonderful Venetian Candies. You will have time on your own to relax in one of the many specialty coffee shops and maybe try the legendary world famous souvlaki (meat on a stick), before heading back to Villa Spiros.

May 3, Tuesday - Swimming at shipwreck bay, sunset dinner

  • Wake up at your own pace today and enjoy a relaxing spring breakfast.
  • Around midday, you set off for an exciting drive to the north of the island, with several gastronomic stops along the way. We will take a delightful boat ride to the world famous Shipwreck Bay for a once in a lifetime swimming experience. If the weather is too windy for the boat, we will still be able to admire the shipwreck from the viewing platform set into the cliff top.
  • Later, you will enjoy a traditional dinner, at the locals’ favorite taverna ever, in Kabi. Not only is this restaurant famous for serving authentic Zakynthian cuisine, but also for having lovely owners and the most magical sunset on the whole island. You can relax and take in the captivating views over rugged crags, and the shimmering ocean. Another amazing ending to a wonderful day!

May 4, Wednesday - Picturesque Keri village tour

  • Today, you may like to spend the day at leisure, as in the evening we will set off for a tour to Keri village, one of the most picturesque villages of Zakynthos, combining the best of both worlds with sea and mountain views.
  • First stop is at Lithakia village to visit the olive oil factory museum and taste the wonderful organic liquid gold olive oil on fresh village bread. We continue our drive towards Keri, to visit this beautiful sea side village. Above the village, see the traditional Lighthouse and the biggest Greek flag ever made, flying proudly on its magnificent flag pole. Delight in the views to the Mizithres rocks and the Ionian Sea, again some of the finest and most spectacular views anywhere in the Ionian Islands.
  • There’s an ample choice of lovely tavernas, across the coastline, to enjoy an amazing, relaxed, traditional meal if you like. Fresh caught sea food is a must for fish lovers.

May 5, Thursday - Departure day

  • This morning why not enjoy a final walk to Laganas main street or the beach. When time your driver will take you safely to the airport for your departure. By now you will truly be feeling like a Zakynthian through and through, and definitely like a member of our family. We really hope that we have kept our promise and you’ve experienced the most amazing Easter of your life!

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Arrive at Zakynthos International Airport (ZTH). Villa Spiros will pick you up from the airport. The pick-up is included in the price.

Arrival by ferry

Ferry boat from Venice, Ancona, or Brindisi in Italy to Patras is an alternative if you travel either by car or train. It takes about 20 hours with the superfast ferries from Venice to Patras. Then there is a further hour drive by car or bus from Patras to Killini, from where the ferry boat takes you to Zakynthos town in one hour. Zakynthos can be easily reached by boat from Killini port or Kephalonia Island.
