Here you will enjoy a traditional welcome dinner, with magnificent views over the twinkling lights of the town below, across the harbour and out to sea. Relax while traditional singers (kantades) set the mood. The local wines and Greek ouzo will help you along!
After breakfast, you will be cooking with your host, Effie. She will invite you to join her to prepare and cook a traditional light dish full of vitamins, summer colours and great aromas! You will be cooking traditional Greek stuffed vegetables and a taste bud tantalizing “bougiourdi” which is baked feta cheese, with peppers, tomato and spices. Effie welcomes questions, as she is proud to share her knowledge and experience of Zakynthian cuisine.
While the food is cooking, you can explore the surrounding area. This resort offers a great combination of everything a traveler could desire. In the famous sweeping bay, with its shallow, crystal clear water, you can enjoy swimming, snorkeling and if you are lucky, find yourself swimming alongside the large, graceful loggerhead turtles. You can walk along the unending golden sands of Laganas beach. There is a variety of beach bars and traditional tavernas. Scuba diving, water sports, boat hire and sun beds are plentiful, making it easy to relax, play and lose track of time in the sunshine. Then, return to Villa Spiros and join your hosts for the lunch you helped cook, which will be served in the pretty garden alongside chilled house wine.

On the way, we will call at the Turtle Museum where the staff will be pleased to share their knowledge. Continuing our tour, we arrive at Dafni beach, where turtle nests are scattered all along the golden sands, protected by little cages, and watched over year round by an army of passionate volunteers. Just a little way out to sea the secluded uninhabited Island of Pelouzo and the protected beach of Sekania, provide a stunning backdrop. Time, now to unwind and enjoy the afternoon and evening. Swim, try a spot of snorkeling to see if you can spy a Caretta Caretta and don’t forget your camera!
After a traditional breakfast, we set off for the picturesque north of the island. A refreshing swim at the “healing” beach of Xigia will set you up for the day. Sulphur springs bubble up from the sea bed, making the warm waters mineral rich. There’s a slightly eggy aroma, but your skin will thank you for the experience!
Continue north, driving through picturesque villages to your lunch destination; a family owned and run mountain taverna. Here, you will enjoy a farm to fork culinary experience. After a warm welcome, and a cool welcome drink, Grandmother Athina will show us, step by step, how to cook a family recipe handed down the generations: stuffed free range chicken in tomato sauce with pasta, plus a variety of starters. While the food cooks in a traditional wood-fired oven, our hosts take us around the farm to see where the ingredients were grown and to meet the livestock. Then back to the taverna where in the shade of a spreading oak tree we’ll enjoy the food we cooked, plus local wine, and homemade dessert to add that final sweet flourish.
After breakfast, get ready for today’s cooking activity, including preparing rabbit in tomato sauce and tzatziki, using organic ingredients from the family’s land. A taste sensation! While dinner is cooking, you may either choose to enjoy a relaxing morning in Laganas, or join us for a spectacular sunrise experience. With a refreshing fruit juice in hand, we will walk about 15 minutes to the port of Agios Sostis for a boat trip to Marathonisi Island. Let yourself go on this tiny, non-inhabited island. A traditional dinner is coming up later, at the locals’ favorite taverna , in Kabi. Not only is this restaurant famous for Zakynthian cuisine and its welcoming owners, but for the most magical sun sets on the island. The view from the restaurant, down to aquamarine waters must be one of the best in the world.
