Accommodation

You will be accommodated in either in La Casina or Palavigne S.

La Casina

In an oasis of peace, 30 meters distance from Fattoria Baco, lies a fine small red brick house surrounded by olive groves. From the big terrace with its tiled floor, there is a beautiful view of the Tuscan hills. The apartment is composed of a living room with a kitchen corner and a fireplace, a double bedroom, and a bathroom with shower. The apartment is heated by electric stoves. La Casina is suitable for 2 people.

Palavigne S

Immersed in the characteristic countryside of Tuscany, amongst olive groves, cypresses, and vineyards, at 300 meters distance from Fattoria di Baco, this small wonderfully restored stone house with woodbeamed ceilings and terracotta floors is ideal for a couple. It comes with a living room with kitchen corner, 1 double room, and 1 bathroom with shower. The furniture combines antique and modern pieces. The apartment has central heating and is suitable for 2 people.

Swimming pool

The wide swimming pool (16 x 6.50 meters) overlooking the vineyards will invite you to a fresh and relaxing swim. There is plenty of opportunity for creating ones own secluded corner so you can spend your holidays in complete relaxation. The nearby fields will invite you to have a walk or follow the trekking paths nearby.

Program

Start cutting and mixing to create your own meal with Lisa or Elaine! They will guide you on 3 cooking lessons of 3 hours each. You will learn how to use olive oil in its natural state or in cooking, how to enhance your cooking with wine, how to use fresh or wild aromatic herbs such as sage, rosemary, the wild nepitella, laurel and much more. Each day you will explore a complete menu from appetizers to desserts. Each class will be an incredibly fun experience that begins on the ground floor of your 18th century villa in a fully-equipped separate kitchen.

You will receive recipes of the dishes you learned during the cooking classes. The cooking class includes a 3-course traditional meal using fresh in-season ingredients. The sources are produce or ingredients from local farmers with local recipes which include Roman and Tuscan cuisine. All courses include local wood-fire oven bread, local extra virgin olive oil, and abundant local wines and water to accompany all meals.

Tuscan cuisine sample menu

  • Prima piatto (first course): handmade pasta, made the traditional way, using a rolling pin (not a pasta machine) with local ragu sauce (or vegetarian alternative) to accompany the pasta dish.
  • Secondo piatto (second course): saltimbocca alla romana - a classic Roman dish using veal, procuitto, and fresh sage (or a vegetarian alternative) with a family recipe sauce served with side salad or vegetable dish.
  • Dolce (dessert): torta di ricotta alla Romana (traditional Roman cake using homemade pastry that includes a fresh locally-sourced ricotta).

Tuscany Cook cooking schedule

Day 1: Arrival

  • Arrival to your private stone house apartments. Dinner on request.

Day 2: Tour to the vineyards with tasting and light lunch, cooking class

  • Participate in a tour at the vineyards, from where Tuscany Cook's wines are produced.
  • Have a tasting of some of the wines.
  • In the afternoon, begin your first Tuscany Cook class with your teachers, Lisa and Elaine, professional chefs who will teach you how to use wine in daily meals to give every course the right aroma.
  • Continue with dinner in the garden with stunning views!

Day 3: Olive oil tour with tasting and light lunch, cooking class

  • Participate in a tour at Tuscany Cook's olive groves from where the extra virgin olive oils and wines are produced.
  • Partake in tasting some of the extra virgin olive oils with light lunch.
  • In the afternoon is your second cooking class to learn how to enhance your daily meals with extra virgin olive.
  • Dinner in garden.

Day 4: Excursion in Florence

  • Spend a full day in Florence and visit the main sites and monuments of the historical center of the town. Free reservations for Accademia or Uffizi gallery to skip the line.
  • Transfer to Certaldo train station to reach Florence with the local train. Transfer back from Certaldo train station to the Fattoria Bacio.

Day 5: Free day

  • A lazy day in which you can choose to pass it relaxed at the fantastic pool or you can decide to explore the surroundings and maybe visit the ceramic laboratory nearby.
  • Dinner prepared by the owner of the Fattoria.

Day 6: Free morning, cooking class

*Cooking class in the afternoon. Lisa or Elaine will teach and show you how to make delicious fresh pasta and other delicious recipes with aromatic herbs to give your own food a touch of Tuscanity.

  • Dinner al fresco in the garden.

Day 7: Free day

  • Enjoy the garden, the swimming pool, and the stunning view or visit Certaldo Alto or the nearby San Gimignano Monteriggioni or Siena with a private driver on request (not included). Lunch is on request for 20 EUR per person and dinner for 25 EUR per person.

Day 8: Departure

  • Transfer to Certaldo train station.

Location

Fattoria Baco is 35 kilometers from Florence and 6 kilometers from Certaldo. It is surrounded by many historical cities such as Certaldo, Boccaccios birth place - the author of Decamerone, S.Gimignano; famous for its 15 medieval towers, Montelupo Fiorentino; famous for its ceramics production dating back to the Middle Ages, Colle Val dElsa; the italian capital of glassware. Vinci, Leonardo da Vincis birth place and its interesting museum.

Things to do (optional)

Remain at the estate to enjoy the grounds and the lovely pool, and take magnificent walks in the fields. Naturally, you are welcome to participate at all Tuscany Cook's extra cooking activities including all excursions and of course to share the amazing dishes your partners have prepared for you!

On request, Tuscany Cook can help you to organize extra programs such as hot-air ballooning to float over Chianti vineyards, horseback riding, and bike or Vespa tour, rent-a-car to explore the countryside. Tuscany Cook can provide also excursions to Lucca, Pisa and Cinque Terre. Upon request, mountain bike is available for rent at 25 EUR per day to explore the area; and a private driver to explore San Gimignano Monteriggioni Siena on the free day costs around 150 - 250 EUR.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flights to arrive at Pisa International Airport (PSA) or Florence Airport, Peretola (FLR). A private transfer can be arranged upon request. The price for the transfer from the Pisa Airport to destination is 140 EUR (private car for 2 people) one way. Roundtrip transfer costs 280 EUR. The price for the transfer from Florence Airport to destination is 120 EUR (private car for 2 people) one way. Roundtrip transfer costs 240 EUR.

Arrival by train

Guests should take the direct train from Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station (the main station) to Certaldo train station. Tuscany Cook will pick you up at Certaldo train station.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 30% of the total price.
  • The deposit is fully refundable if the booking is cancelled up to 60 days before the arrival date.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
