Join this 6-day retreat in the beautiful, mountainous state of Guanajuato, Mexico with a native Spanish speaker and yoga instructor, Leti Alvarez. Discover the charming city of San Miguel de Allende, try your hand at cooking local cuisine, visit the birthplace of famous muralist Diego River, immerse yourself in Spanish language, and deepen your yoga practice in this vibrant epicenter of Mexican culture and cuisine. Bask in Mexico's scenery and culinary as you go on market visits and museum tour.
During this retreat, you will stay in a boutique accommodation in the heart of San Miguel de Allende.
Arrive at the Leon-Silao Del Bajío International Airport (BJX) before 2:00 p.m. and enjoy your short transfer to San Miguel de Allende. Settle into your room, get out and explore central San Miguel, meet your roommate for the week, and enjoy a grounding post-travel flow before your welcome dinner featuring healthful, local specialties.
You’ll wake up not-too-early for a refreshing morning yoga session before a delicious breakfast of healthful, local fare. You’ll then visit the morning market, gathering ingredients for your lunch cooking class led by a fabulous local chef. You’ll learn the names of fresh and dried chilies, learn about common herb and spice combinations, make homemade tortillas, and enjoy dishes all made with local ingredients. We'll do a late slow flow this evening together.
Today we will visit an organic farm just outside the city. We’ll take a walk around the property to learn about sustainable agriculture in the region and its important role in the local economy and environment before a farm fresh lunch together. We’ll return early afternoon for free time in town. Consider visiting one of San Miguel’s many museums, or shop in the local boutiques for mementos to take home. In the late afternoon we’ll have a nice flow before a free evening at your leisure.
After morning yoga and breakfast, you’ll take a short drive to the neighboring city of Guanajuato, the capital of the region, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This magical city is like going back in time, with small cobblestone streets, narrow alleyways, and numerous plazas and colonial-era architecture. You’ll first visit the Diego Rivera museum to learn more about this iconic artist of the 20th century who portrayed the entire social and political history of Mexico through art.
Then the rest of the day is yours to explore. Consider a snack at the local market, check out the Mummy Museum, or take the funicular up the hillside for panoramic views of this colorful city. You’ll depart back to San Miguel in the late afternoon and settle back in with yoga together.
Wake up to yoga and your healthful breakfast, then get ready for an uphill walk to the gorgeous botanical gardens of San Miguel. Your entrance and guided visit is included to learn about local native species. In the afternoon, enjoy free time for explorations and shopping.
You’ll do a closing ceremony yoga session this evening to prepare for tomorrow’s travel before your farewell dinner in the evening.
We will offer a short, pre-travel yoga session and breakfast before your departure back to Leon-Silao Del Bajío International Airport (BJX). You can leave any time today.
Enjoy day trip visits on a private van to local markets where you shop for local ingredients for your cooking class, drive around the neighboring city of Guanajuato, the capital of the region, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
