This vacation will take place in Catania, Sicily, Italy. Sicily is a land of paradoxes. Though richly supplied with treasures of food and art, it is in a constant battle against a poorly supplied infrastructure and corruption.
Sicilians have been subjugated by foreigners for almost 25 centuries. In spite of this, they possess a deep and multi-faceted cultural heritage. The Magna Graecia is a refined, understated architecture, while many other historical buildings are an odd mix of interesting, if not contradictory, Arab craftsmanship and Norman austerity.
The culture complexity is mirrored in the diversity of landscape as well, from the smoldering Mount Etna volcano to the pristine, turquoise coastal waters along the Aeolian Islands and the beautiful Parco Naturale Regionale Delle Madonie.
The beautiful Baroque architecture of Catania starkly contrasts the modern squalor of Palermo and artistic competence often gives way to moral ambivalence. Keep an open mind when visiting, as well as a healthy appetite. The one thing that remains constant throughout is the exceedingly high quality of Sicilian cuisine.
During this cooking vacation, you will be served breakfast at the hotel, as well as two lunches during the cooking class and wine tasting. Your cooking class with Eleonora in Viagrande will be based on famous Sicilian recipes, paying particular attention to pasta, fish, and vegetables.
