Monday

Start the day with a guided walking tour of Brittany's most beautiful old town, the former seat of the Dukes of Brittany, surrounded by ramparts almost 250 feet above the River Rance. Walk beside the river to the village of Lehon, protected by a feudal castle dominating the former abbey. After lunch in a local inn, continue along the river ascending through meadows, to end the day with a great view of the city and its river-port from a magnificent viaduct. On the evening, dine in a typical creperie, much favored by the townspeople. Overnight in Hotel Le dAvaugour.

Tuesday

Take a short walk from the hotel to board a boat for a leisurely cruise along the Rance river, followed by a walk to your lunch venue. Start the afternoon with a short transfer, to see a unique tidal power station and continue on foot to the famous resort of Dinard, pausing to enjoy its magnificent setting opposite the corsair city of St.Malo, which you will reach by ferry. Stroll along the ancient city ramparts to your beautiful new hotel, before having dinner in the restaurant, overlooking the sea. Overnight in Hotel Le Nouveau Monde.

Wednesday

Walk along the coastline, passing the amazing sculptured rocks of Rotheneuf, comprising 300 local characters carved into the granite by a 19th century priest: the Abb Four. Continue along the picturesque Cote d'Emeraude (Emerald Coast) to lunch, followed by a drive into Normandy. With the fabulous beckoning profile of Mount St. Michel, follow an old pilgrims' trail to the sandy bay, from where you walk up to the Abbey for an unforgettable visit - the "Marvel of the Western World" - in its island setting. In the evening, walk across the causeway to Mount St. Michel, to dine on the famous 'omelette de la Mere Poulard', a unique experience. Overnight in Le Relais St. Michel.

Thursday

Driving through the typical Normandy countryside, arrive at Bayeux, a medieval city that escaped from the worst of the World War II bombing. Visit the famous Tapestry, made in the 11th century celebrating the conquest of England by William, Duke of Normandy. After lunch, walk through the bocage, a Norman word to describe the unique, picture postcard landscape of woodland, pasture, and meadows formed by dense hedges (a nightmare for the paratroops in the weeks after D-Day), interspersed with charming hamlets. Stop to taste the renowned local calvados, made from the fruit of the ubiquitous apple-orchards, local cider, and homemade ice cream. Visit an elegant 18th century manor. Settle in your stunning hotel in Port-en-Bessin, before a presentation on the D-Day Landings, the Battle for Normandy, and the beaches you will explore tomorrow. Overnight in Chateau La Cheneviere.

Friday

After breakfast, depart for a full day's fascinating and thought-provoking tour of the famous and infamous Normandy beaches. Visit St. Mere Eglise, scene of the largest airborne night assault in history (800 planes) and center of US 82nd Airborne operations; the German cemetery, at La Cambe; the Pointe du Hoc, where the battery has been left, as a memorial: as it was on D-Day. After lunch, pass by Omaha Beach and the US Cemetery, for some time to reflect: Look how many there are. Look how young. They died for your freedom. Hold back your tears and be silent.

Return to the hotel for a farewell dinner. Overnight in Chateau La Cheneviere.

Brittany

Brittany, northwestern France, is a hilly peninsula extending out toward the Atlantic Ocean. Its lengthy, rugged coastline is dotted with beach resorts such as chic Dinard and walled Saint-Malo, built on rock in the English Channel. The Pink Granite Coast is famed for its unusual blush-hued sand and rocks. Brittany is also known for its many beachside campsites.

Normandy

Normandy is a region of northern France, known for its coastline of varied beaches, white-chalk cliffs, and World War II beachheads, including Omaha Beach. It has a tranquil landscape of half-timbered houses and grazing cattle, yet it has been a battleground throughout history, from the Viking raids to the D-Day landings. Offshore, Mount-St-Michel, a 12th-13thcentury Christian pilgrimage site, rises from the sea like a mythical castle.

During this walking culinary tour, you will be provided with every meal (with choices), snacks, and refreshments, as well as wine with dinner.
