This holiday will take place in La Rioja region, Spain. It is not difficult to have a love affair with Rioja, not solely for its wines, but for its generous people, gastronomy, and magnificent landscapes. Rioja is a wine area, which includes the province of La Rioja, Navarra, and a part of Alava, in the Basque Country. Castilian Spanish is spoken.

La Rioja region is located in central northern Spain, 100 kilometers south of the port of Bilbao, lying astride the motorway that joins the north and Mediterranean coasts. The landscapes of La Rioja are beautiful and impressively diverse, with ancient hilltop fortress towns rising from the blanket of vineyards, overlooked by a panorama of the imposing Sierras of Cantabria, the De la Demanda ranges in the west, and the Pealosa and Yerga ranges to the east.

Apart from over 60,000 hectares of vines, other prominent crops are cereals, sugar beet, apples and pears, along with an abundance of sheep. The economy is built around agriculture in general, particularly in the wine making industry and its allied products, such as oak barrel makers, capsule producers, label printers, and agricultural machinery suppliers, as well as engineers and, not least, banking.

The mighty River Ebro bisects Rioja from west to east, and with the mountains, plays a key role in the geology and climate of Rioja; from the cooler, verdant west, where vineyards and population centers are higher in altitude; down to the warmer, arid east, in the Rioja Baja. They influence the micro climatic conditions in the vineyards, both feeding the water table and generating early morning mists across the riverside vineyards, while sheltering them from the worst of the Atlantic influences.

Gastronomy plays an important role in this thrilling wine journey. You will experience delicious gourmet meals in top wineries overlooking the vineyards and distinguished traditional restaurants. Renowned cooks will entertain you with their typical regional meals and new innovative culinary creations. Just as the wines of Rioja have a unique character, so does the regional gastronomy; some say the food there is more sophisticated and varied than anywhere else in Spain.

As you dine in fine restaurants, tapas bars, and the famous gastronomic societies of Rioja, it will dawn on you how Rioja's food and wine really is a marriage made in heaven. From Chateaux-style and traditional wineries to boutique or avant-garde wineries, all regarded as the current leaders in both new Rioja and traditional Rioja, winemakers and winery owners will guide you through their prestigious estates explaining their unique wine-making methods and sampling their renowned wines with you.

For example, if you call to book two people and there are already four people booked, you will be paying the price designated to six people. If at a later day there are two more booked clients, you will eventually pay the price designated to eight people.
