The retreat's home is the stunning Villa Malaathina, set amongst 5000 square meters of tropical gardens and featuring a 25-meter swimming pool. Luxuriously-appointed suites, a yoga shala, gym, peaceful living areas, hammocks and meditation pods offer you the perfect blend of five-star resort facilities and Asian healing culture.
Enjoy a choice of al fresco living and dining areas, including the ultimate Japanese teppanyaki bar. Lose yourself in a good book in the spacious library, take time out to indulge in a surround-sound movie in the media room, with cable TV and worldwide channels, or sip on a tropical mocktail while you drink in the sunset from the deck.
The villa has just seven suites and a maximum of 14 guests at any time. Each suite is luxuriously appointed with a soothing design palate, plenty of space to relax, and a beautiful bed to sink into to rest and recharge at any time of the day or night. Choose from the Master, Pool or Asian Suites, each with their own unique features.
With stunning views over the rice paddies on one side and the swimming pool and garden on the other, the premium Master Suite is the very definition of luxury. Enjoy the indulgent comforts of a king-size bed, generous living area, dressing room and private furnished balcony. A soak in the enormous bathrooms granite tub, overlooking the rooftop garden dotted with splendid purple, pink and white bougainvillea, is an absolute must.

Opposite Master Suite 1 is an equally airy and light-filled suite. Featuring two elegant Buddha statues and a dreamy blue feature wall, this suite overlooks the tropical garden and pool and boasts a king-size bed, generous living area, dressing room and private furnished balcony. Its delightful bathroom with a granite tub has views over the surrounding rice paddies.
Living space: 73 square meters.
With its traditional pitched roof made from Kalimantan timber, this king-bedded suite is situated at the far end of the garden near the yoga studio and gym, and provides a very private getaway. The spacious suite includes a writing desk, window seat and expansive bathroom with granite tub.

Open your sliding glass doors and step out of your spacious suite onto the furnished poolside terrace or dip straight into the pool. These suites are wonderfully adaptable, as they both have twin beds that can be joined to form a king bed - ideal for friends travelling together, couples or travelling solo. The suites are connected by a solid teak door, which can be opened to make one large family suite. Both Pool Suites include an expansive dressing room and bathroom with a freestanding granite tub.

These two identical bedrooms each feature twin beds, which can be joined to make a king. Chinese-inspired furnishings complete these charming rooms, which share a covered outdoor furnished terrace, offering a quiet space to relax.

Each day, you will be nourished with inspiring wholefood cooking classes, nutrition tips and foodie excursions presented by wholefoods cooking teacher, Andrea Ball. And each day, you will be nurtured with wellness workshops, restorative yoga, mindfulness and mediation. Villa Malaathina is located off a quiet country lane in the rural community of Umalas, well known for its beautiful rice paddies and traditional way of life. Despite its charming rustic feel, the restaurants, bars and shopping of Seminyak are just a fifteen-minute drive away. The nearest surf beaches are Batu Bolong and Echo Beach.
All of your meals and snacks are provided for you during your stay. This includes all breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Since this is a cooking retreat, you will be enjoying meals that you have prepared during your classes. All of these meals that you will prepare will be cooked with whole, organic foods. Aside from consuming your own concoctions, there are several special meals that you will enjoy. You will have brunch at an organic caf and a spectacular teppanyaki seafood dinner at the villa on your final night. Cafs and restaurants in Canggu (just 3 kilometers away) are springing up at quite a rate. Try the charming Canggu Caf, a great place for a light lunch (serves delicious Indonesian food and salads). Opposite the Canggu Club is a small international restaurant called The Loop, while next door and under the same management is the Canggu Deli, which stocks plenty of gourmet food items.
Chill out completely with an in-villa massage or beauty treatment.
Covering 3.8 hectares of tropical parkland in Kuta, Waterbom Bali has 16 water slides (including The Climax with its 360 degree loop) to entertain the young and the young at heart. A great family day out, but go early to beat the crowds.
Eating out in Seminyak requires careful research and planning; theres just so much choice! Everything from fine international dining to cheap and cheerful gourmet burgers can be had in this diners paradise.
Get back to nature with Bali Eco Tours. Based in Ubud, they can offer anything from educational cycling tours through the rice fields to sunrise volcano climbs. Talk to your villa manager about arranging a trip.

Learn the secrets of Balinese spices and cuisine during a cookery class at Sat Bali Restaurant on Jalan Kayu Aya in Seminyak.
Play a round at the unbelievably scenic Nirwana Bali Golf Course. Bordered by ocean and rice fields and just down from Tanah Lot sea temple, no wonder this championship-standard course (designed by golf legend, Greg Norman) is frequently voted number one in Asia.
Swing among the trees and fly through the air at Treetop Adventure Park, or see the real Bali with a Bali Eco Cycling Tour (all downhill!) through the islands beautiful rice terraces and unspoiled villages. The drive through rural Bali is a treat in itself.
There are several surf schools in Bali, mainly based in and around Kuta and Legian, where young and old(er) can learn to surf or brush up on their skills.
Watch a spectacular sunset at Echo Beach (7 kilometers) where a number of cafes offer great views and cold beer. Note that the beach here is dark volcanic sand and the waters are better suited to surfing, having a pronounced swell and rip, rather than childrens swimming. Hotel Tugu, a very stylish and eclectic boutique hotel a few minutes further down the coast, is also a good sunset spot.
