Included excursions

The retreat offers daily guided hiking activities on the surrounding areas of the Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains.

Joel Walding
Joel started cooking professionally at the age of fifteen in a four star seafood restaurant in Nova Scotia. His passion followed him through his teens into Texas, where he achieved his Associates Degree in Culinary Arts. In 2009, he moved to Charlottesville and worked at Harvest Moon, job that led to his love for central Virginia. The rest is history: Joel charmed guests at The Farmhouse as chef de cuisine and executive chef, filling the guests' hearts and bellies ever since.
Lynsie McKeown
Born and raised in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Lynsie grew up with an appreciation for beauty, nature and adventure. That sense for adventure led her to various parts of the world seeking out the allure of remote trails and deeper experiences in yoga. Lynsie’s background of yoga, Thai yoga bodywork, and personal training interwines symbiotically to create a supportive environment that encourages individuals to awaken to their own bodies and accept themselves wherever they are on any given day.
Melanie Perl
Melanie grew up in Madison County, Virginia with the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah National Park at her back door. She has been hiking in this area and beyond all of her adult life. Melanie works as a volunteer through PATC (Potomac Appalachian Trail Club) doing trail maintenance and reconstruction in Shenandoah National Park. She became a Master Naturalist in 2013 through the Rivanna Chapter, and continues to enjoy discovering and learning more about our natural world.
Andy Shipman
In 2010, Andy left briefly to pursue his degree in American Studies at the University of Mary Washington. There, he became interested in the connection between food and history. While finishing his degree, Andy worked as a line-chef at FOODE under co-owner and executive chef, Joy Crump. Today, Andy brings a strong food philosophy to The Farmhouse by using the freshest ingredients available from The Farmhouse garden, which he cultivates and maintains. His menus highlight local ingredients, and are marked by their simplicity and elegance.
