The Chocolate Boutique Hotel

The hotel's story began back in 2004, when the Wilton family were inspired to set up a chocolate business after seeing the first cascading chocolate fountain. They quickly snapped up the second and Chocolate Delight was soon hiring out fountains for film premieres and celebrity weddings, including Peter Andre and Katie Price’s. In 2006, the Wilton family saw an opportunity to expand and bought a beautiful but outdated 19 century grade II listed hotel. By Christmas 2007, restoration was complete and the world’s first chocolate themed hotel was born.

If you like chocolate, you’ll love our chocolate workshops! From chocolate truffle making and chocolate portrait painting to ‘bean to bar’ workshops and chocolate/wine pairing sessions, there’s something for everyone. You can even make a chocolate shoe with matching handbag. The chocolatier is often to be found in the kitchen conjuring up scrumdiddlyumptious treats, so if your visit doesn’t coincide with one of the regular workshops, don’t despair - they might be able to lay one on especially for you.

The weekend will begin with a special welcome party with a free glass of bubbly. Over the next two days, you’ll learn about the fascinating history of chocolate and the production process from bean to bar, take part in a tasting of exquisite chocolates from around the world and learn how to pair chocolate with wine. There’s even a chocolate portrait painting session, where you can immortalize yourself in milk, white and dark chocolate.

Discover too the art of tempering chocolate and Belgian chocolate truffle making and whisk up 30-40 truffles of your own before learning how to package them beautifully. We’ll also show you how molded chocolates are made (demo only). Later, you can relax with a delicious ‘choctail’ or two in our cozy Chocolate Bar (9 GBP per choctail).

"On my dad's birthday I booked the chocolate workshop for 3 of us. We didn't really know what to expect but it was something a bit different for a birthday present. It certainly exceeded all of our expectations."

"It was clear that Gerry, our chocolatier, was absolutely passionate about real chocolate, and his chat while helping us to make our chocolates, was entertaining and informative. We will never view the well known brands of what we regard as chocolate, in the same way again!"

"Highly recommended, especially as we left with four bags each of delicious, handmade (our own) filled and solid chocolates and a tasting of several other varieties of proper chocolate. "

"We are almost connoisseurs now ;)"

    "Lovely chap!"

"We enjoyed our stay at the hotel, room excellent, staff really nice and helpfully. Easy access to Bournemouth and local amenities, though a long uphill walk back from the beach. Bed was really wide and very comfortable, we slept like babies."

"Had an excellent overnight stay in The Chocolate Boutique hotel; the only downside was we wish we had booked for an extra night. Cannot find fault with anything; the hotel was spotless and we had a wonderful nights sleep in very comfortable beds. All the staff we encountered were friendly and breakfast was great! The highlight of the stay were the chocolates in the room, reception and at breakfast, closely followed by towels that were sumptuous and of a size that actually went round the body - that's something that you do not come across very often! Honestly, I cannot think of anything that could be improved on, a very well run boutique hotel that has thought of everything. I cannot comment on price of room as it was bought as a birthday present."

"The Chocolate Boutique is a lovely place to stay. We went for our 7th anniversary and were warmly greeted upon arrival; the room was fantastic - it had everything we needed (we had a chocolate fountain - would definitely recommend one). Central location just minutes from the sea front. Breakfast was fantastic as well. All staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely come again for our 8th anniversary."

"I came here for a weekend with friends. The hotel looked lovely, nice to stay somewhere unique, it wasn't too far from the beach. Staff were very friendly. We had all booked in for a chocolate workshop within the hotel. It was interesting to learn about the history of chocolate and it was a lot harder to make the truffles but we had so much fun.It was a good laugh and be prepared to get a bit messy. We definitely liked the complimentary chocolates in the rooms and foyer. I ordered a chocolate hamper and you can also have chocolate cocktails and chocolate fountains. It's a chocolate lovers dream. It was a lovely weekend away. Highly recommended!"

"The whole hotel is themed around chocolate. The rooms are named after chocolate types and are all very tastefully decorated on a brown theme. The rooms are well lit and have very good bedside reading lights, which makes a lovely change. Around the hotel are large bowls of chocolate to nibble. The breakfast were good and my husband had a good English breakfast, and I had a chocolate pancake, yum yum! The hosts are great fun. We also did two chocolate courses make truffles and painting portraits, both great fun and lots of interesting information from Gerry. Lively weekend in a great town."
