Arrive in Split, a major Mediterranean port that is the heart of Dalmatia and Croatia’s second-largest city. You are met at the airport and transferred to your hotel located in the fourth-century Diocletian’s Palace, the world’s best-preserved late antique palace. This evening, you will meet your fellow travelers for a welcome drink at the hotel terrace and continue to the wine bar for predjela (appetizers) and a glass (or two) of Croatia’s renowned wine.
You will set out this morning for a private walking tour of Split’s city center with your guide and discover this dynamic city that has evolved over the centuries. It offers a perfect blend of history and modern influences and boasts museums, great architecture, restaurants, shops, as well as an abundant green and open fish market. Your tour will begin with a stop at the open food market, where you can experience fresh local ingredients.
Afterwards, continue to Diocletian’s Palace for a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was originally built as a residential summer palace for the Roman emperor. Your afternoon is at leisure to enjoy Split on your own. You may wish to walk along the Riva (waterfront) to enjoy the ambiance of this friendly city. For the evening, dinner at one of the best restaurants in Split will be organized where accompanied with dinner selection of Mediterranean wines will be served.
Just a short ride from Split is the location of the origin of Zinfandel. Through DNA testing, it was discovered that Zinfandel originates from Crljenjak, wine variety also known in Italy as Primitivo. A visit to vineyards overlooking Split where last remains of that ancient wine where found and wine tasting with winemaker considered one of Croatia's top expert on Crljenjak will be organized. Return to Split and enjoy free afternoon and evening.
After the early breakfast, you will be picked up by your driver and will take a short 50-minute ferry ride to the island. Throughout the day, you will discover the astonishing nature of Brač island where you will get to know its gastronomic beauty, culture, and traditional way of living. Your first stop will be a unique location among the olive trees where you will learn about olive oil production, taste different varieties of olive oil, and have a private cooking class in a traditional stone house built right there in the olive grove.
The second stop will be Vidova Gora, the highest peak of Brač island and highest peak of any Croatian islands in general. From there, you can enjoy the stunning view of the islands such as Hvar, Vis, Solta, and others, Dalmatian coast continuing down south to Dubrovnik and the world-famous Golden Horn beach in the small village of Bol. Bol will be your last stop where you will have your private wine tasting and tour of the wine cellar at one of the best wineries in Croatia. Wine sorts you will be tasting are 'Pošip' and 'Plavac Mali' or Little Blue, two of the best wine varieties in Dalmatia. Decanter award-winning wines will be the perfect end of your exploration of the island. After that, you will head back for your ferry ride back to Split. Return to Split in the early evening.
In the morning after breakfast and checking out of your hotel, you will continue to Dubrovnik. On route to Dubrovnik, you will stop in one of the best wineries in Croatia located on the hills rising from the Adriatic Sea. There, you will enjoy unique gastronomic experience of combining fine food with excellent wines all produced in the vineyard located around you. In the late afternoon, you will arrive in Dubrovnik. After checking in at your hotel, you will have a free evening to familiarize yourself with this amazing city.
In the morning, a tour of Dubrovnik, 'Pearl of the Adriatic', will be organized. Irish author George Bernard Shaw wrote, “Those who seek paradise on Earth must come to Dubrovnik”. The old town, protected by city walls, fortresses, and bastions, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A walk along the ramparts reveals a view of the enchanting Elafiti Islands. Stroll the cobblestone streets with your local guide to admire Onofrio fountain, the city bell tower, and numerous medieval buildings. Dinner tonight is at Dubrovnik’s best restaurant and among Croatia’s top five. An innovative cuisine, prepared with the freshest ingredients and impeccably served, leads you to a culinary odyssey as breathtaking as the sight of the Adriatic Sea and Dubrovnik fortification that frame the view. This is a gastronomic experience of old Ragusa that you are not likely to forget.
You will explore the Konavle Valley, renowned for its carefully preserved folk customs, rich national costumes, and famous embroidery. You will drive through the villages of Popovici and Radovcici to a local home where you will learn about silk production. For centuries, silk has had a reputation as a luxurious fabric associated with wealth and success. In Konavle, you will watch and participate in the silk production process that includes cocoon boiling, thread reeling, dyeing, plying, weaving, and embroidery.
Afterward, you will continue to a house located in an ancient mill on the banks of the Ljuta River for a traditional farewell lunch and dine on prosciutto, local cheese, and homemade bread. Then, you will head to Cavtat, originally a Greek settlement called Epidauros that became a Roman colony around 228 BC. Cavtat is home to the Rector’s Palace, the baroque Church of St. Nikola, a Franciscan monastery, and the Vlaho Bukovac Art Gallery. The remainder of your afternoon and evening are at leisure in Dubrovnik. You may wish to take a relaxing walk in the old town or finish some last-minute shopping.
You are transferred privately to the airport for your homebound flight.
