To celebrate a particular family milestone, we took over several rooms at Swinton for a week. The food and the service were as spectacular as the surroundings and it remains our favorite hotel around, so much so that when we return to the north east, we always find a way to spend an evening there to enjoy the environs and the amazing restaurant.

We booked a short break hoping to re-charge our 'spiritual batteries'. It was perfect. The staff take great care to get everything 'just right'; they are polite, efficient and friendly without being intrusive. The rooms are larger than average and very comfortably furnished although there are a few twists and turns as you negotiate stairs and corridors in this former stately home. The cooked breakfast offers plenty of choice and sets you up for the day. Dinner in the evening was great - interesting dishes, well-presented, and served impeccably. We will return!

Spent the most relaxing Birthday at this beautiful hotel, which of course is currently decorated in all its glory for Christmas. The food, room, and spa is first class, but what makes this hotel deserving of the highest rating were the incredible staff who were all so helpful and friendly. The manager is visible and keeping a watchful eye making sure all is well, which is exactly as it should be. I could happily have stayed there for the week or longer! We will most definitely be returning, perhaps in the spring to enjoy the grounds in better weather. We simply loved this hotel. Well done to all of you working there. You are 1st Class!

We stayed in the Middleham suite in early November. We had a very friendly reception and were made to feel good straight away, especially by Dan, who took care of us very well. Nothing was too much for all the staff and they made our stay extra special. There is lots of history to read up about and the whole experience was exceptional. Samuelss restaurant was excellent. Our meals were very tasty and the waiter service was exceptional. You need to stay at this place to appreciate all that it has to offer.

We've stayed in a good many hotels. Has to be said Swinton Park is pretty much in the top 1. On arrival its a bit like approaching Hogwarts/Downton. Well its a castle anyway. So we checked in and were promptly given a tour of the facilities. Which was very nice. Our suite (which was only a few pounds more than a room) was amazing. We would (in another lifetime) live there! Everything was perfect, the restaurant - for dinner was 1st class fine dining. The breakfast - perfection. The service - excellent. Though the current spa facility is quite small, the fact that you can book this exclusively makes the experience very exclusive. We loved our birthday treat at Swinton Park, very much. Lets face it, Swinton Park isn't a cheap night away. But it is very, very good and with the planned build of new spa complex, etc. Things are only going to get better. One note to bear in mind. I did book Swinton Park for the clay pigeon shooting at warren gill, in the morning. At fairly late notice this was cancelled, due to bad weather. I know that no one can determine the weather. But when you spend big, be aware that things don't always go as planned. I would like to think that we'll be back at Swinton Park before too long. Finally after our meal last night, though it was November, the stars were amazing and it was so quite. Just beautiful!

What an amazing place. Not only is it full of history, it has a restaurant that justifiably gets three AA rosettes, and there are lots of activities on offer. We did a brief introductory falconry course with Sophie, and we can really recommend that. If you're there with kids she does family falconry sessions too. We checked in late in the day and from our room we looked out and saw dozens of fallow deer grazing. I have to admit a bit of guilt at having venison that night, but at least you knew it was fresh. The whole place had a sophisticated country house class about it, a bit like Downton Abbey, and with places like Masham, Ripon, Fountains Abbey and even Harrogate within easy reach, it was perfect for a peaceful and definitely romantic escape.

From check-in to check-out staff were courteous and attentive. Superb food and a lovely room which was a complimentary upgrade to celebrate a wedding anniversary. A bonus of being set in beautiful gardens and parkland.

Stayed for our 30th wedding anniversary and what an awesome experience, from check-in to been shown to our room by the excellent porter . We had use of hot tub and sauna on our arrival which was such a treat as you get private use for an hour. Please remember to book when you make your reservation. It was such a good and chilled start to our stay. We then took a walk around some of the grounds. Amazing we saw the birds which are part of the birds of prey centre. So many deer. Truly wonderful.Had a drink in the bar then back to room Harlow Carr which has a lovely big bathroom and the most comfy large bed to get ready for evening meal which was absolutely gorgeous. The service we had rates as one of the best we have had. Good selection of wines and can recommend the cocktails . Breakfast was a full English for us and was very nice . The place is a true gem. The walks to the lakes are real nice. The staff were all excellent and I could have not faulted any of them. The dcor is so of its period . Thank you, to all staff who made our anniversary a special one.

We have been staying at Swinton Park for the last few years, usually in February for my wifes birthday and in October for our wedding anniversary. The first time we visited we only stayed one night - it is not enough! So now we stay for two, which gives you time to appreciate the beautiful surroundings, of both the building and the gardens and lake walks. All the staff you meet are excellent friendly and helpful. This was the first time we had not stayed in the Wensleydale suite - which is huge, this time we had the Bradford which is smaller but very comfortable with lovely views over the lakes and gardens, waking up in the morning and seeing the deer grazing in front of you with the mist rising is magical! A bigger sofa in the room would be better though. Food in Samuels is excellent, we are not breakfast people but I look forward to breakfasts at Swinton Park, freshly cooked to order. We had dinner in Samuels on one night and I think that 4th rosette is not far away. It was superb. Coffee afterwards in the drawing room with a roaring fire is always a pleasure.

Amazing grounds, amazing building, attentive staff. It was a memorable experience. The rooms are generous and very comfortable. The grounds are expansive and worth the effort for a walk. We spent time in the 4 acre kitchen garden and spent some time talking to the gardener. They grow their own produce and cut flowers. We would return.
