Superb Gastronomic Holiday in Piedmont

Piedmont is one of the most famous wine regions in the world and it is also famous for its superb gastronomic specialties such as truffle, cheeses, and chocolate. On this tour, you will travel through the heart of Piedmont from the enchanting landscapes of the Langhe hills with Barolo and Barbaresco wines, to the spectacular vineyards of Monferrato. You will stay three nights in Torino and five nights in the Langhe area, in an enchanting relais surrounded by the vineyards, which features also a renowned gourmet restaurant. On this tour, you will also enjoy a visit to a cheese farm, take a private cooking class with an expert cook, and visit superb wineries.

Throughout the tour, you will stay at two four-star hotels, the first three nights in Turin and the next five nights in Langhe area. You will experience the comforts of two of the most special hotels in Piedmont.


Day 1: Arrival in Turin

Upon your arrival at Turin airport, you will be transferred to the four-star hotel in the heart of historic center, deluxe rooms.

In the late afternoon, you will meet your guide at the hotel for an introduction of your program in Piedmont and a guided walking tour of the historic cafés. You will stop for a bicerin tasting. Bicerin is a sort of coffee typical from Turin, made with espresso, chocolate, and milk. It will be a chance to discover secret places and learn about history and traditions of Turin.

Dinner on your own.

Day 2: Turin guided tour of historic center

In the morning, you will meet your guide at the hotel for a guided tour through the historic center of Turin. You will visit the Royal Savoia Palace, Piazza Castello, Piazza Carlo Felice, and Mole Antonelliana.

Afternoon will be at leisure to explore Turin on your own. Dinner will be in a gourmet restaurant, a walking distance from your hotel.

Day 3: Turin - Venaria Reale and Stupinigi Royal Palaces

Today, you will visit two Royal Palaces just out of Turin with your guide. You will first reach the Royal Palace of Venaria. The Venaria Reale (UNESCO Heritage) was created as hunting lodges and places of pleasure of the Royal Savoy family. It is a masterpiece of universal baroque as well as the magnificent gardens.

After your visit, you will enjoy a “Merenda Sinoira” at one of the restaurants in Venaria Real park. “Merenda Sinoira” is a typical small but substantial meal which peasant families used to have to restore their energy after a hard work. It consists of cold dishes, toma and tomina cheeses, charcuterie, and fried foods, and comes with a good glass of wine!

Then, you will reach Stupinigi Royal Palace, a hunting lodge for a European Court. A place of leisure and hunting, this was the favorite spot of the Savoy family for spectacular parties and solemn marriages, as well as being the residence of Napoleon in the early 19th century. Return to Turin and dinner on your own.

Day 4: Monferrato Wineries, Asti, and the Langhe area

Today, you will uncover the Monferrato area and its sparkling wines. You will visit two excellent, award-winning wineries producing superb wines. Then, you will reach Asti for a walking tour on your own.

Then, you will drive to the Langhe area where you will stay for the next five nights, accommodation will be at a four-star relais in the Langhe area, deluxe rooms. The relais features a gourmet restaurant, a huge private garden, and surrounded by vineyards. Dinner at the restaurant of the relais.

Day 5: Cooking class and hazelnuts world

  • Meals included: breakfast and lunch

This morning, you will learn how to cook Piedmont-style, and you will get in touch with the local food culture through a private cooking class. Lunch will follow.

In the afternoon, you will visit a company that produces and cultivates hazelnuts, from the tree to tasty hazelnut products, such as cakes, biscuits, chocolates, cream, and different flavored hazelnuts, and you will taste all the products.

Return to the relais and dinner on your own.

Day 6: Pollenzo wine bank, Piedmont cheeses, and Alba

  • Meals included: breakfast, lunch, and dinner

In the morning, you will travel with your guide through the Langhe. You will visit “Agenzia di Pollenzo”, the Royal Castle which keeps the University of Gastronomic Sciences and the Bank of Wine in Pollenzo, where you will have a private guided tour, a workshop, and wine tasting.

The Bank of Wine is a center of storage and refinement for the best wines of Italy and at the same time it is also a museum of Italian wine, offering visitors the chance to discover their oenological heritage and to taste the wines from some of the most prestigious wineries.

Then, you will drive to the town of Brà, a Baroque town, cradle of slow food and historical center for seasoning and trading for local cheese makers. You will discover the world of the delicious Piedmont cheeses, such as Castelmagno, Toma and Raschera, Murazzano, Robiola di Roccaverano, and Ossolano.

You will visit a historic workshop where you will learn about the local cheeses, the seasoning, and will enjoy a light lunch tasting local cheeses and other local specialties.

In the afternoon, you will drive to Alba, where you have some free time before dinner at a gourmet restaurant. Transfer back to the relais.

Day 7: Langhe wineries

  • Meals included: breakfast and lunch

An excursion through the spectacular scenery of the Langhe will let you discover the best wines of the area.

You will visit two unique wineries, regularly recognized by Wine Spectator, you will learn about the wine making, visit the historic wine cellars, and taste superb wines such as Barolo, Nebbiolo and Barbera. You will have lunch at one of the wineries.

Transfer back to the relais, dinner on your own.

Day 8: Grinzane Cavour and Barbaresco winery

  • Meals included: breakfast and lunch

Today, you will discover the Barolo and Barbaresco area and Grinzane Cavour Castle. You will visit a favorite winery in the entire Piedmont region where you will spend the morning in the vineyards, the cellar, and the family house. Indulge in a superb wine tasting of the best Barolos and Barbarescos the winery makes before sitting down to lunch with the winemakers.

After lunch, you will visit Grinzane Cavour Castle. This historic castle is extremely important and symbolic in the Langhe, it keeps a small museum, very interesting to understand the history of great Piemont wines.

Transfer back to the relais and dinner on your own.

Day 9: Departure

Pick up from the hotel and private transfer to Turin airport.
