She will introduce you to the hidden Venice by this food and wine experience. The Bacari, the local down-to-earth version of wine bars, serve tapas like “cicheti”, traditionally washed down with a glass of wine, and Venetians stop to snack and socialize before and after meals. They are called “Bacari” in honor of Bacchus, the God of Wine. Wandering from place to place, you shall learn more about the people of the old Venice and the lifestyle of a community of pedestrians!

Day 2: Market visit, cooking class, and Venice masterpieces

Meet your guide at the hotel for the visit of the food market, then you will go to the cooking school located in a historic palace in the heart of the historic center, few steps from St Mark's square. Menus are based on the basic principles of both Venetian and Italian Food - simplicity, freshness, tradition, and excellent raw material. You will prepare all the dishes of the seasonal menu, and you will interact with the cook about different aspects of the local cuisine.

In the afternoon, your guide will lead you through the Venice masterpieces: St. Mark’s Square, the former political center of the Venetian Republic, and of the nine century-old Byzantine St. Mark’s Basilica, a stunning church for anyone in Venice. Inside, you will admire its stunning decoration of ancient marbles and shimmering golden mosaics. Then you will take a walk through the back streets to discover the urban setting of the city: bridges, small and large canals, small squares, brick pavings, and carved well-heads, up to the busy central area of Rialto.

Day 3: Market visit, cooking class, Venetian artisans, Costumes and Perfume Museum

This morning, you will visit together with your guide the fish market, definitely the best in terms of variety and freshness. Then your guide will take you to the cooking school where the chef will show you how to prepare the fish of the day, according to the season, freshness and availability at the market. You will interact with him and see how fish is cleaned, which are the features of the Lagoon or Mediterranean seafood, the best way to enhance the natural flavors of the ingredients.

In the afternoon, your guide will introduce you to some of the most interesting workshops such as an ancient weaving, where skillful hands expertly weave precious velvets, sophisticated silk and jacquard fabrics on ancient looms, even for leading designers, a specialized graphic design shop that uses different printing techniques to create fully customizable pieces, expert glass-makers, known as Maestri Vetrai who create masterpieces for renowned contemporary artists, an artisan workshop producing leather goods and marmorata paper gifts with traditional methods and materials, an artisan producing textiles homegoods weaving traditional skills with fresh, contemporary design.

Your tour continues with the visit of the Costumes and Perfume Museum. The Palace on Grand Canal houses a vast collection of ancient fabrics and clothes belonging to the Venice Civic Museums, that evoke the different aspects of the life and activities of a Venetian nobleman between the 17th and 18th century, and on display are mannequins wearing valuable ancient garments and accessories that belong to the Museum’s Study Centre.

In the five rooms that are dedicated to perfume, a video illustrates the role of Venice in the history of perfume, a room evokes the lab of a perfumer of the 16th century (muschiere). Raw materials and processes are displayed and illustrated, while an olfactory map describes the “Streets of Spices” crossed by the ancient Venetians. The tour ends with the opportunity to experience, through some olfactory stations the “fragrance families” from which come all the fragrances.

The tour will take place in Venice. Venice is known the world over for its unique system of canals and its history as an important maritime power during the Middle Ages and Renaissance. During the Renaissance its wealth and power allowed the city to become one of the most important artistic and cultural capitals of Italy.

Today, one can still feel the pride which the Venetians feel about their past. Their culinary tradition is also very rich. Venice finds itself in a fortunate position between the mainland and the sea, with both Northern Italian and foreign influences. Rice, which was introduced by the Arabs, became an important staple of the Venetian diet. The abundance of fish available at the local markets every morning is the base ingredient for many seasonal dishes found only in this area such as seppie col nero (cuttlefish in their ink), sardelle in soar (sardines in onion marinade), caparossoli in cassopipa (clams with parsley) and soft-shell crabs.
