During this retreat, you will be staying in La Roca Rara in a shared double room. Single supplement is available for an additional cost. La Roca Rara was designed and built with inspiration taken from The Alhambra Palace in nearby Granada by a wealthy American industrialist in 1970s. His eye for design shows throughout the villa with a main floor with floor to ceiling windows taking in views to the outside terraces and beautiful central courtyard and high vaulted ceiling giving an incredible feeling of space. The lounge with central fireplace opens onto a large south-facing terrace with spectacular views to the sea, it offers a huge pergola with seating area and barbecue facilities.

Adjoining the lounge, is a dining room with seating for up to 16 people as well as a raised television area with media facilities. The villa’s six spacious en-suite bedrooms and elegant master suite feature a fireplace and air conditioning all with large doors opening onto the central courtyard which features a fabulous large heated swimming pool and areas to relax and unwind.

During your visit, the aim is to extend your knowledge on all Spanish cooking techniques, as well as a relaxed and fun atmosphere, experiencing a new culture and meeting new people. You will have time to cook and prepare many different tapas and meals with locally sourced fish and meat which you can enjoy with the rest of your group in stunning accommodation and surroundings.

During the visit to the area, you can also experience the life of the locals with an extensive insight and you will learn some of the language and local ways of life here in beautiful Andalucía. The seven days’ culinary tour is the most complete option. This experience is for those who are interested in learning in depth about the culture and traditions of Spanish food along with an insight into how the locals live.

Daily schedule

Day 1

Arrival from airport. Afterwards, there will be an introduction and itinerary for your stay with Spanish Culinary Tour. You will also be allocated to your room and have a tour of the villa. Then, you will have a question and answer session with the chef followed by an afternoon to relax. Afterwards, there will be an evening of paella with demonstration and flamenco.

Day 2

After breakfast, there will be an insight into tapas, followed by a tapas class matched with local wines over lunch with a local wine expert. In the evening, you will have a tapas tour of Nerja around the local traditional tapas bars will give you a good insight in to the local life and language.

Day 3

You will go on an excursion to the beautiful “Alpujarras” in Granada where you will visit the award winning wine bodegas. Later, you will be treated to a tour of a traditional olive “molino” (mill), giving you the opportunity to see a working mill and taste the full variety of olives and oils produced and exported worldwide. In the evening, you will be free to do what you like from our return to the villa. This is expected to be around 7 p.m.

Day 4

After breakfast, you will have a morning cookery class focused on local ingredients. Whilst preparing lunch, you will be discussing how you can use these ingredients at home to wow your dinner guests. In the evening, you will have dinner in Nerja as a group to give you the chance to sample some of the local cuisine. This is optional so if you prefer to take in the town at your own pace, you are free to do so.

Day 5

You will go on a visit to a local Andalusian produce market where you will purchase fresh fish. On your return to the villa, you will prepare our lunch using the ingredients you have purchased. You will have the afternoon free. In the evening, you will have a tour of the beautiful award winning white village of Frigiliana where you can try some of the local tapas.

Day 6

Following breakfast, you will have the final cookery class together where you will learn about and prepare some local dishes. You will then sit down as a group and eat what you have cooked followed by a free afternoon. The evening will be finished off with a barbecue where you will also make some typically Spanish drinks such as sangria and tinto verano.

Day 7

You will have a light breakfast followed by a chance to reflect on the tour and your experience before going to the airport.

Please book your flight to arrive at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP). Transfer from and to airport is included. Spanish Culinary Tour will pick you up from the airport.

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 30% of the total price.
  • The deposit is fully refundable if the booking is cancelled up to 60 days before the arrival date.
