Male and Villimale Tour

After being picked up from your hotel, venture on a Male City tour. A guide will be with you at all times and you will visit the fish market, the local market, the President's Palace, Sultan Park, and the Friday Mosque. Stop for lunch at one of the many restaurants overlooking the water front before taking the public ferry to Villimale. There, you will join Save the Beach and discover the quieter side of city life by exploring the smaller island of Villimale, located south west of Male.

Wander the quiet streets, learn the names of local trees, visit the spice factory, and learn more about the conservation work being carried out by Save The Beach. You will also be able to sample traditional hedika at a local café on the beach. You will enjoy traditional sweet and savory snacks with black tea, before returning to Hulhumale.

Taste of Local Life Experience

You cannot beat home cooked food and, with this experience, you will live in a wonderful experience. You will not only assist in selecting the ingredients from the local market in Male, but you will also get to spend time with a local family, preparing local dishes, which you will then get to enjoy along with the family in their home.

Hulhumale, North Male Atoll, is a suburban island just a 10-minute taxi ride from Male International Airport. This artificial island was reclaimed from the sea to offer alternative living space outside of Male and whilst not a 5-star resort Hulhumale provides the ideal base for a short holiday or as a start or finishing point to a longer stay in the Maldives.

There are plenty of local coffee shops, a handful of restaurants and a small local shopping area. The beach located along the east side of the island is an endless stretch of sand and provides the ideal location to swim, snorkel or just relax after a great days diving. The capital Male is just a 20-minute ferry journey away and for those who like to end their day with a beer the only hotel serving alcohol on a local island is a short bus journey close to the airport.

The traditional food of the Maldivians is based around fish, specifically tuna, chilli, and coconuts; while white rice and roshi, a flour based flat-bread, are staple items. Fish is normally smoked, fired, barbecued, or roasted. Pork products are strictly prohibited. When eating on local islands, it is worth noting that Maldivians traditionally eat with their fingers; therefore, food is not always served piping hot. Tap water is perfectly safe for brushing your teeth; however, you are advised to drink bottled or boiled water. All food on local islands is halal.
