Georgia is a country with ancient and rich original culture, which goes back as far as millennia. Here, you will find monumental architecture, world-renowned art, book miniatures, rich spiritual and secular literature, colorful dances, jewelry, chasings, and paintings.
The Caucasus Mountains, the highest mountain range in Europe, marks the border between Georgia and Russia. While the highest peak is in Russia, Georgia lays claim to the second highest, Shkara, which at 5,193 meters (17,040 feet), beats Mont Blanc by nearly 400 meters (1,312 feet). These dramatic mountains, with their terrifying hairpin roads and hidden villages cut off at winter, are what legends are made of.
The area around the ski resort of Gudauri makes a good starting point for summer walks through mountain meadows full of flowers. Even in the lowland areas, eagles soar overhead and spectacular views can be had. The mountains in the south and east can offer more gentle walks.
These regions are also suitable for horse riding and mountain biking, as there are numerous mountain roads and tracks. Special Caucasian horses bred for their endurance and beauty, such as the Kabardo and the Tusheti, are the traditional means of transport in this area.
During this holiday, one of your stops will be Tbilisi. The city brims with history and has a dramatic setting, with hillsides on both sides of the swift Mtkvari River. Its Old Town, at the narrowest part of the valley, is still redolent of ancient Eurasian crossroads, with winding lanes, old balconies and houses, leafy squares, handsome churches, and countless busy bars and cafés, all overlooked by the 17-centuries-old Nariqala Fortress.
Another stop is Gori. Although for many foreigners it is mainly known as the birthplace of Joseph Stalin, in Georgian historical memory the city has long been associated with its citadel, The Gori Fortress, which is built on a cliffy hill overlooking the central part of the modern city. On another hill, you will find the 18th century Saint George’s church of Gorijvari, a popular place of pilgrimage.
The Uplistsikhe Cave Town, the fortress, is situated on a rocky massif eastwards to Gori on the left bank of the river Mtkvari. The fortress is mentioned in chronicles from the earliest times. Its history begins in the first to second millennium before Christ.
During this holiday, you will have the opportunity to taste delicious Georgian meals. Three lunches, one dinner, and daily breakfast are included in this holiday.
