We took the four day culinary cruise, and I wish it had been longer! The sailing was magnificent, and the food fantastic! Captains Annie and Jon are great hosts and very talented sailors, chefs, and singers. The crew was helpful, considerate, and fun to chat with.

We just departed the J&E Riggin after a 4 night Maine Food Cruise. The trip was great from beginning to end with great sailing, beautiful scenery, great food, and super people. My husband and I have had a trip like this on our bucket list for years and we definitely hit this one just right with pretty much perfect weather and the right choice of boat and crew. The Riggin is beautiful and rustic with cozy cabins and plenty of room for taking in the views from the deck. You can do as little or as much as you want on the boat and it was the first time in a long time I have really relaxed. The food was fantastic with many opportunities to help in the galley and to learn about what Annie was preparing and how and why she did it. We were always amazed by what came out of the cook stove each and every meal - from the fresh poached organic salmon, roasted leg of lamb, lobster stew, to the wonderful fresh salads and veggies and yummy breads. The beach lobster bake was perfect as well. Besides the food the sailing was pretty much perfect. Jon guided us each day to a different little harbor where we would anchor for the night. Evenings were filled with reading, getting to know other guests, games in the galley as well as music on the desk where Jon, Annie, their daughter Ella, and crew member Nathan serenaded us as the sun went down. I would say it was pretty much perfect!

It was my wife long life dream to spend many days on a sailboat... So when I found J & E Riggin online and read their beautiful website, I was hooked and had to show to my lovely wife the same evening...
We took several hours to review all their awesome cruise options and were in love with so many of them... We chose the culinarily 4 days cruise since I really like to cook and love to learn new tips...
The following day I called at their office and had a delightful conversation with Elizabeth who was very helpful...
We did book our cruise taking advantage of their thanksgiving awesome promotion and we later learn that this cruise was fully booked very quickly, for good reasons!!!
Now, let's talk about our lovely experience...
The owners Annie and captain John are very loving and attentive to their guests... They have also an awesome crew... An apprentice Nacho, an helper Chives, second in command Hatch, their lovely daughter Ella and strong, capable and always at service Erin...
What is great about this cruise is the fact we can be involved as little or as much as we feel like it without any judgement and in a such calm and peaceful environment...
We did love helping with the sails, the ankers, cutting fruits and vegetables in the kitchen...
The captain was sailing so attentively and we didn't even feel sometimes we were on the water such the sailing was smooth...
This cruise was a great way to relax, disconnect from the electronic world and enjoy life and.... Food !!!
Yes... Food was incredible !!!
Just the quality of food was worth the price of the cruise...
Believe me, you won't be disappointed...Any allergy or special requests : Annie will do her 150% to accommodate your every need !!!
Fresh cooked meals, awesome delicious food and even better such great presentation !!!
And great activities, great stop in lovely places... And what about the fresh steamed lobsters on the island !!!
I won't tell you more... Simply oblige you to try it for yourself... I guaranteed you won't be disappointed!!!

We went on the 4 day food cruise in August. The highlights of the trip were: seeing the coast of Maine, visiting islands near the coast, sailing on the boat, and the food. Every meal was delicious, varied, and creative. The warmth and hospitality of the hosts and crew was also noteworthy. It was a great opportunity to meet others on the boat and just relax.
My wife Susan and I recently enjoyed a perfect 4-day cruise on the Schooner J and E Riggin out of Rockland, Maine. Our gracious hosts / co-captains, Jon and Annie, created a friendly, home-like, family atmosphere. They gave us the feeling that we were sharing their home at sea. We enjoyed creative, varied, healthy, sizeable, and tasty meals with fresh baked goods and fresh ingredients, some from Annie's two cookbooks. Because this was a Cooking with Chef Annie Cruise, we also enjoyed several cooking lessons from Annie, which were very informative. The competent crew members were very friendly and responsive to the needs of the guests. Captain Jon is an experienced skipper, who emphasized safety and clear communications of expectations for the guests. In addition, he also provides sea stories, guitar music, and singing along with Annie and the crew. The cruising grounds around Rockland, Maine, are perfect Maine, with magical islands, fishing villages, and great sailing. Having both sailed on other schooners, we know we will return again for a sailing vacation on Riggin!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Riggin. From the food made from scratch in a wood stove with fresh local ingredients to the community at sea it offers, this was the a trip of a lifetime! The sailing was also amazing. The atmosphere was quite laid back and very welcoming to all. Captains Jon and Annie (chef), along with their wonderful crew, made this trip a real pleasure, a rare opportunity to truly disconnect and embrace the beautiful coast of Maine.
I spent 3 nights on the J. and E. Riggin, a historic schooner. We sailed around the scenic midcoast of Maine. Passengers were welcome to help raise anchor and sails, and whatever else; I think this fostered great camaraderie. I went alone, but there was always the option to socialize with the passengers and crew as much as you wanted. The food was delicious and well presented. The trips vary from 3 nights to 6 nights with a laid back and comfortable atmosphere, but the captains (a husband and wife team) are always attentive to the smallest of details. Details included homemade quilts below, recipes from the galley, live music in the evening, and a hand-painted map showing the particular itinerary for your trip. Sailing with the J and E Riggin is a fine reason to visit Maine.

The food was magnificent! The fact that we never saw the same meal twice was such a treat. The fact that we never saw the same meal twice was such a treat and the fact that you created all those culinary masterpieces out of that wooden box, on deck, and on that wood burning stove, below deck, makes the feat all the more impressive. The lobster bake on the deserted island, just as your brochure said, was definitely a highlight of the trip.
