This culinary holiday will take place in Half Moon Bay, California, USA. This eclectic seaside village is only a short, 30-minute drive down the coast from San Francisco. Half Moon Bay, or HMB as the locals call it, was the first part of Northern California Bay Area Peninsula to be discovered by foreign explorers, and was the oldest settlement established in San Mateo County, dating back to the 1840s.
San Francisco’s famed Mission Dolores was founded in the historic year of 1776 and, soon after, the Half Moon Bay coast-side became the grazing land for mission cattle, horses, and oxen. Farms dating back to the 1800’s still dot the area. Today, food producers specialize in the traditional coast-side crops such as Brussels sprouts, artichokes, English peas, and green beans. And of course, seafood plays a major role in the food culture of the area.
Two breakfasts, one lunch, and one dinner are included in the price of this retreat. The breakfast menu at the Mill Rose Inn includes fresh juices, fruit, French pastries, homemade breads, crepes, omelets or quiche, and your choice of beverages. Fresh baked goodies and beverages are also available at the inn throughout the day. The lunch will be during your culinary tour of Half Moon Bay, and the dinner will be the meal you'll prepare in your cooking class with chef Ellie.
During your free time, you can engage in activities all over the area. The Half Moon Bay State Beach is a four-mile stretch of protected beaches that are perfect for strolling.
