"My wife and I had a wonderful weekend at Puschka Farm on their Cape Malay culinary course. We stayed at the "off-the-grid" Puschka bush cottage which offered 12 volt electricity powered by solar panels, gas cooking and wood fired heating and hot water. The only sounds we heard were of nature - birds in abundance and jackals at night. The course itself was hosted by chef Owen, a well-traveled and educated Cape Malay" from District 6 in Cape Town. Our conversations were not just of food, but of history and politics!Linda and Peter, the owners of Puschka Farm, treated us like one of their family and after our weekend we felt not just that we now knew something about Cape Malay cooking, but that we had made friends and joined their extended family. We have signed up already for their next course and look forward to being amongst friends again in a few months time."

"Most serene beautiful place we have stayed at in a while. Will most certainly be back. The rust charm of the Bush cottage coupled with the isolation and peaceful surrounds made for an ideal break away. The owners were very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Differently worth a stay!"

"We stayed in the bush cottage for three nights. The setup is very rustic and basic, so if its luxuries you are after, look elsewhere as there is no 240-volt electricity or plug points, the donkey boiler requires a bit of effort to get the water warm enough, but well worth the reward of a hot wood fired shower! The cottage is situated on the fringe of a riverine thicket with the most amazing variety of bird calls I have heard anywhere, the sounds of the night were just as satisfying with Jackals and nightjars aplenty! Great hikes on the property although not very long, plenty of great views. The hosts were also very warm and welcoming. Will definitely be back when the time comes to switch off again!"

  • Review by Danica Gouws from Johannesburg, South Africa

"We stayed in the Bush Cottage for a self-catering weekend breakaway to celebrate our anniversary. We marveled at the peace and quiet at night and the beautiful birdsong in the mornings. We thoroughly enjoyed the fresh air. We found the cottage fully equipped and lacked nothing. We really appreciated the extra touch: candles and soaps in the bathrooms, we were supplied with drinking water and even extra ice (since inclement weather the day before did not provide sufficient solar energy for the freezer the first night). Extra fire wood is available at 20 ZAR. We arrived quite late and well after sunset, but Peter waited up and welcomed us warmly and drove with us to the cottage. The accommodation itself is cozy and warm, there are gas heaters in the rooms and enough blankets. We went for walks on the farm, played board games (which were in the house) and just relaxed. We will definitely visit Puschka Farm again."

"A quiet and relaxing place with a rustic welcoming feel, great to unwind. There is a little farm stall at the main house with local products like jams, olives, coffee, tea, icecream, eggs, and sometimes fresh produce."

  • "Our second stay at Pushka Farm in two months. Last time we were on a cookery weekend but this time just to chill out. If you want to find peace and quiet, this is the place and Bush Cottage is a proper Eco experience without 240v electricity. I love it!"

  • Review by a traveler from Pretoria, South Africa

"With accommodation on Puschka farm ranging from a fairly basic bush cottage to a 3-bedroom house, we elected to stay at the more secluded Puschka bush cottage for the weekend and really enjoyed the experience. The cottage makes use of solar lighting, a gas stove, 12-volt fridge and a wood burning donkey boiler, all of which were in perfect working order, making the lack of 240-volt electricity a non-event. Attentive staff and hands-on owners made for such a nice change from other recent Magaliesberg accommodation experiences.A word of warning though, the access road to the Bush cottage itself is billed by the owners as high ground clearance in dry weather and 4X4 only when wet, an accurate description! After 50 milimeters of rain fell overnight we only just made it out without help from the farm tractor in our 4X4 soft roader. if you are looking for an bush escape with a view to doing nothing but relaxing then Puschka Bush cottage is ideal."
