Enjoy an educational tour visiting the best of classical Greece. Immerse yourself in 5000 years of history while exploring the ruins the ancient Greeks left behind. Explore the glory of ancient Greece with this unique tour and visit and enjoy six of UNESCO’s world heritage sites. You will have a chance to sample the wines of most diverse vineyards and discovering its wealth while exchanging views and having fun. You will try wines from native varieties like Agiorgitiko, Moschofilero, and Moschato, all from the authentic vineyards of the Peloponnese. Also, taste the local flavors from all the regions - each has its own specialty!
You will be accommodated in an A-Class hotel in Kalambaka / Meteora for one night, A-Class accommodation in Delphi for one night, A-Class accommodation in Olympia for one night, a three-star accommodation in Nafplion for two nights, and A-Class accommodation in Athens for four nights.
Upon arrival, the reception will be at the airport. You will be transported and check in to your hotel. Lunch and dinner depending on your arrival time.
From the Acropolis to Omonia Square and with a half-day sightseeing and Acropolis museum tour, you will see all the famous sites of ancient and modern Athens. The Athens half-day tour departs for a photo stop at Panathinaiko Stadium where the first Olympic Games took place in 1896. It is the only stadium built out of white marble. Proceed and pass by Zappeion and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. You will then pass the Athens Trilogy which includes the University of Athens, the Academy of Athens, and the National Library.
Then continue passing by the National Garden, Hadrian’s Arc, St. Paul’s Church, Parliament, Tomb of the unknown soldier, Schliemann’s House (Numismatic Museum), Catholic Cathedral, Old Parliament, Constitution Square, Russian Orthodox Church, and finally Acropolis. Visit Propylaea, the temple of Athena Nike, Parthenon, and Erechtheion with its Porch of Maidens. Continue with the expert-guided Athens sightseeing and museum tour with a pleasant short walk, passing by Herodion and Dionysos Theater, in order to visit the Acropolis museum.
You will depart from Athens to the Corinth Canal (shortstop) then drive to Epidaurus and visit the Ancient Theatre, world famous for its outstanding acoustics. Proceed to Nauplia (shortstop) and through the plain of Argos, arriving at Mycenae. Visit the archaeological site and the Tomb of Agamemnon. In the afternoon (after an optional stop for souvenirs), you will depart for Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
Visit the archaeological site with the Temple of Zeus, the Temple of Hera, the altar of the Olympic flame, the Stadium and the archaeological museum. Depart via Patras (shortstop) to Rion, cross the Corinthian bay by the bridge to Antirion. Pass by the city of Nafpaktos and from there on, along the coastal road to Delphi, known in ancient times as the navel of the world. In the afternoon, you will visit the picturesque mountain village of Arachova.
You will visit the archaeological site and the Museum of Delphi. Delphi is an ancient Greek city in which the most important oracle of the ancient Greek world operated. Then, depart for Kalambaka via central Greece (shortstop by Lamia). Overnight stay will be in Kalabaka, a small town built at the foot of the majestic grey rocks and crowned by the Meteora Monasteries.
Leave in the morning for nearby Meteora to visit the Byzantine monasteries. Then return to Athens, passing the heroic monument of Leonidas of Sparta at Thermopylae. The Battle of Thermopylae is one of the most important battles in Greek and world history.
Depart from Athens for the Ancient Corinth. The Ancient Corinth was one of the largest and most important cities of Greece, with a population of 90,000 in 400 BC. You will visit the archaeological site of ancient Corinth, an important trading city in Greek and Roman times that stood at the meeting point of southern and northern Greece. Explore the ruined temples, bathhouse, forum and theater, and see the bema - a stone platform where it’s believed Saint Paul once stood in front of gathered judges. You will drive the Corinthian wine route which covers most of the wine growing zone of the PDO Nemea wines. This is the largest in Greece, both in the area of vineyards and in production (second on a geographic area). You will visit a winery and taste local and foreign varieties. The vineyard of Nemea is the kingdom of Agiorgitiko, but it is also planted elsewhere in the Peloponnese, Greece and in the world. Nemea, with the homonymous PDO Nemea wine, is the largest red wine designation zone in Greece. After the wine tour, you will head to Nafplion in the first capital of Greece.
After breakfast, you depart from Nafplio to Mystras. You will visit the ‘dead state’ of Mystra which was the capital of the Byzantine Despotate of Mystras. The mountaintop city of Mystras is a UNESCO World Heritage site and among the most impressive Byzantine ruins in Greece. You can view a Byzantine church and fortress as well as do a lot of hiking around the area. Afterwards, you will head off on the road of Laconia wine and visit a winery where you will taste do some wine tasting before heading back to Nafplio and the afternoon is free.
Arrive in Arcadia and visit the Kapsa Cave which is 15 kilometers away from Tripoli and 1.5 kilometers from the village of Kapsa. Experts rank it in the list of the ten most valuable caves in the Greek territory. It is located on the periphery of the closed geological basin of the Mantinetian Plateau and is connected to the complex system of natural sinks that characterize the aquifer. Among the findings of the cave are human bones and earthenware utensils. One of the places in the cave of Kapsa is named ‘Hall of the Wonders’ where explosive colors of red, yellow, and blue create a work of art of incomparable beauty made of nature itself.
You will taste the wine of Arcadia and will visit two wineries. Arcadia has a lot to tell about wine and it is no accident that the god Dionysus and his faithful follower Panas, according to mythology, lived in Mainalo. There, among the mountains of Parnonas and Mainalos are hidden the vineyards of the strong PDO zone of Mantineia. Approximately 5,500 acres are cultivated with one of the most important white Greek varieties, Moschofilero. Finally, you return back to Athens and the afternoon is free.
Transport to the airport for the flight back home.
