The Farm Holidays Podere le Olle is situated halfway between Florence and Rome, within easy reach of the motorway. It is ideally placed for outings to Orvieto and Cittá della Pieve, Lake Trasimeno, and Perugia, as well as the gorgeous Val d'Orcia, which not only provides the ideal starting point for excursions to Tuscany, but is also home to food-and-wine-lovers tours. A gravel road leading through olive groves takes you up to a car park on the edge of the Agriturismo's garden.

Dining and living area

Breakfast and dinner are served in the garden or, when the weather is not conducive to meals al fresco, on the ground floor of the main house. Here, the former cattle stable has been restored and transformed into a large living space with vaulted ceilings and an open fireplace.

Guest rooms and amenities

All rooms are spacious and bright; they are tastefully furnished with a great attention to details. Bed-linen and bath towels are chosen in natural cotton and beach towels can be provided with a small supplement. Each room is provided with private en-suite bathroom. All bathrooms have a shower and a hairdryer and basic toiletries are provided.

There is no air conditioning, television, or Wi-Fi in the rooms but, normally, the night breeze and a fan are enough to enable good sleep and Wi-Fi is offered free of charge at the reception or in the dining room; signal is also strong in the garden. Amenities include daily maid service, organic homemade breakfast, use of open air swimming-pool, parking, use of the large professional kitchen, and all day access to a self service bar and to tea and coffee facilities.

Kitchen and shop

Connected to the dining room, the spacious and well-equipped kitchen, has a large open hearth and provides the venue for classes in traditional Umbrian cuisine. In the room next door, homemade olive oil and a selection of local products are for sale. An old oven, now once again fully functional, is next to the farmhouse.

Main building

The accommodation takes place in a restored stone house, which hosts a total of 9 rooms sharing a rather big garden so, even in full season, there is plenty of room for all the guests. Five rooms are based on the ground floor and have an independent entrance through the garden; the remaining four are on the first floor, offering a lovely view over the countryside.

Outdoor

Furthermore, at the back of the house, there are two old stone baths, once used for hand washing linen. A track winds through the fields of the property, ideal for a brisk morning walk. There is a wonderful pool with 180 views across the valley, making this the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday in the Umbrian countryside.

Day 1 - Arrival

  • Meet at the railway station.
  • After check-in, enjoy a complimentary drink and a tour of the house.

Day 2 - Cooking class

  • After a lovely breakfast, enjoy a lazy morning or take a walk in the wood.
  • Back for a light lunch.
  • In the afternoon an interesting cooking class will take place. Dinner will follow.

Day 3 - Trip to Arezzo

  • After breakfast, you'll be driven to the railway station to catch a train to Arezzo (ticket is included).
  • Enjoy this lovely town with its beautiful antique shops, and sit for lunch in one of the many typical trattoria.
  • Back to the farmhouse for a lovely dinner.

Day 4 - Cooking class, excursion

  • After a healthy breakfast, go back to the kitchen for another exciting cooking class.
  • Lunch will served in a convivial atmosphere.
  • In the afternoon you will visit Monteleone d'Orvieto and the Nativity event.
  • Back to the farmhouse for an interesting olive oil tasting before dinner.

Day 5 - Wine tasting

  • After breakfast you will head to Ficulle to visit a lovely winery and taste some very interesting wines of the region. A light lunch is provided at the winery.
  • Back to the agriturismo for your last memorable cooking class, and another great meal.

Day 6 - Excursion

  • You can't leave Umbria without visiting Orvieto. So, this is the perfect day to do so.
  • After breakfast you'll be driven to the railway station and catch a train to Orvieto (easy ride). There are so many things to see, and so many nice shops.
  • Back to the farm for a pizza dinner.

Day 7 - Free day

  • This is a free day based on half board. You may just hang around and rest, or you may want a lift to the railway station to reach Siena or Perugia. You may want Podere le Olle to arrange some special activities for you, like truffle hunting, or wine tasting in Montepulciano or Montefalco. You can discuss all possibilities.

Day 8 - Departure

  • Enjoy breakfast before checking-out.
  • Transfer to the railway station is provided.

Driving directions

  • At Fabro toll station, follow signs to Montegabbione on the left until you reach the sign that says Faiolo.
  • Just past the sign, there is a tall cypress tree and an arrow pointing right; turn right.
  • The Agriturismo is at the end of the gravel road; about 500 meters ahead.

Arrival by airplane

Transfer from and to San Franceso d'Assisi Airport (PEG) is available upon request at the cost of 50 EUR each way.

    Tranquility & Amazing Food - A place to rest your soul

    CONS Cons: For the cooking class I could see some more hands-on tasks and a print out of the recipes would be nice.

    PROS Pros: The sourrounding area allows for great views. Marina, the host, was very attentive and helpful making sure you feel at home and had everything you needed. As I was the only person this time she did the bike tour with me and we had dinner together over a glass of wine and some nice conversations. The room was clean and it was quite. Taking a dip in the pool on a hot and sunny day is wonderful as well. Additionally I was picked up and dropped of at the local train station which was key for me to take part in the tour, as I was not travelling by car myself. During the cooking a learned how to prepare different dishes from starters, over pasta, a main dish to desert. From the very first email contact on, Marina was very accommodating and honest. I fully trusted her and was right to do so. Thank you!

    CONS Cons: I would have liked the opportunity to make the odd cup of tea/coffee and perhaps an ice machine would be a good investment! :) It would be nice to purchase the odd bit of cake for afternoon tea! :) The dogs barked a bit during the night but I didn't mind this too much as they generally made me feel safe protecting the property! :)

    PROS Pros: Marina and Gianluca were wonderful. Marina especially went out of her way to accommodate me and made me feel very welcomed and at home. I wanted a very relaxing week in the sunshine and fresh air with excellent food and wine and that is exactly what I got. The food was very fresh and simple and an excellent variety too. Thank you very much for a superb holiday. I hope to return again soon. Best wishes, Georgina x

The italian (male) singer was Mario Biondi, the female was Ilaria Patassini but she is known as Pilar, she is a great singer and she has umbrian roots. The CD I have is Sartoria Italiana fuori Catalogo, but there are a few mores. I once saw her in Orvieto and bought it. She is very good! Love and kisses, marina & gianluca

    "We stayed in the four-bedroom apartment at Podere Le Olle, all were en suite and this was helpful to us as we were a merry band of friends travelling together. It wasn’t a traditional cooking course, in the sense that Gianlucca did most of the prep and cooking; but the food was delicious, as one would expect from a professional chef. The location is breathtaking and "civilization" is a mere five-minute drive away. I can’t say enough about our hosts, Marina and GianLucca, who were absolutely fabulous. Nothing was too much trouble for them. If you happen to be in their neck of the woods; then put them on your list as a place to stay, you won’t regret it."

    "A group of four friends stayed at Podere le Olle and took the cooking course and visited a winery organized by the hosts. The winery trip was outstanding. The cookery course was given to us by the host, John Luca, who is a professional chef and did not disappoint. Delicious food. Breakfast top class also. Hosts lovely people, can’t do enough for their guests. I highly recommend Podere le Olle."

    "We have recently returned form a whole week at Podere le Olle and sampled a variation of what it has to offer. Right at the start I wholeheartedly recommend this place as a base to explore this part of Umbria and into Toscana and Lazio. We had accommodation, meals, cookery lessons/experiences and trips out."

    "Firstly location. easiest if you have your own transport as it is in the middle of a quiet area of Umbria although there is a train station in the nearby town and either Marina or Gianluca, the owners will come and fetch you. The estate is right next to a small village and a few km from Montebaggione; there are restaurants within easy distance. To get to the house there is a polar tree-lined driveway into a secluded hollow overlooking the valley and woods below. There is the main house which has a large dining room and kitchens. Outside on the terrace is where breakfast is served. There is also a decent sized swimming pool."

    "Accommodation is in an adjacent building converted from a farm/stables and has two floors. Upstairs I believe have the larger rooms. the whole building has been converted beautifully, wood floors and light decor. Our room was large with good storage and a large bathroom which was very well appointed. There are very efficient insect screens on the windows which also have shutters. There is internet access in the main house."

    "Breakfasts are usually served outside - fruit, yoghurt, coffee and a cooked option is usually available. So taking this place as just a B&B is highly recommended. There were a number of guests at the same time as us and all enjoyed staying there very much."

    "Also highly recommended are the occasional cookery lessons held by Gianluca, usually using whatever is freshly available at market and in their garden. Lots of fresh vegetables beautifully cooked and served with local wines (and their label with the estate olive oil). The food and the enjoyment of learning how to cook it were particular highlights for us."

    "We spent four days here, including two days in the culinary vacation program they offer. We can't say enough great things about this place. Everything was perfect. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and modern. The food and hospitality by Gianluca and Marina are truly out of the ordinary. The setting is very peaceful and scenic. It is a great place to stay if you want to make short drives to the wonderful Trasimeno Lake cities such as Citta della Pieve or even into Tuscany to visit towns such as Pienza and Montepulciano. "

    "Marina and Gianluca run this property with their hearts and they are extremely professional! Rooms are spacious and very clean, breakfast is lovely, cooking in the evenings and excursions are arranged regularly. It seems this place attracts only nice people. I have met fabulous folks of all ages, while staying there in May 2015, and another visit in July 2015. A true gem! Must-have dinner at nearby Gatto Giallo, which is 3 minutes away."

    "My husband and I recently returned from a four-night holiday in Podere le Olle and had a wonderful and relaxing visit. The accommodation was modern, clean, and comfortable and the grounds are beautiful, with lots of places to sit in the garden or by the pool. We enjoyed spending the hot afternoons there, basking the sunshine and swimming. Breakfast each morning was plentiful and tasty and the evening meals were delicious. Marina was a wonderful host and our visit to Podere le Olle was made by her warm hospitality and that of her husband, Gianluca. We really appreciated that she allowed us the opportunity to pick and choose elements from the packages available and we went hiking, wine tasting, and had a cooking class, all of which were wonderful experiences. I would not hesitate recommending Podere le Olle to anyone and hope we are able to return one day."

    "First, the location; two rustic farm buildings totally updated with a sloping garden with views over the glorious Umbrian countryside. Next, the food; breakfast is included and, in the true spirit of the place, you can have whatever you want: eggs, salami and cheese, croissants, wonderful home-made brews, and jam. On a Saturday, you may have dinner. Well worth doing, as GianLuca is an excellent cook and it tends to be a very sociable occasion. Another thing is you meet some very nice people at Le Olle. Last but far from least, is our hostess, Marina. Nothing is too much trouble for her and she can advise on places to go, which exit to take for the airport, where to park in Orvieto. No wonder people come back here year after year!"

    "I went to Podere le Olle for my first ever solo holiday. I was nervous but, just chatting to Marina over email before the trip, quelled my fears and by the time I arrived, all nerves had been replaced by excitement. She speaks wonderful English and was interested and sympathetic to my needs. I flew to Rome Fiumicino airport and took two trains to the small town of Fabro, where I was greeted by Marina. She drove me up some lovely winding roads through the countryside to Podere le Olle. It is off the main road down a track and you truly feel you are entering another world. It is a beautiful location, gorgeous buildings, and a lovely pool. I was blown away, photos just don't do it justice. Marina showed me to my room, a huge double with a large bed, a sofa and lovely old furniture, and a large ensuite with everything you could hope for. My room looked down over the garden and I could see the pool. There are chairs dotted around the grass area and I spent many of my hours sitting under a tree, reading. The pool is lovely, small enough that a lap doesn't feel like hard work, but big enough that you can have a good workout, if that's what you're interested in. The sun loungers are comfy and make wonderful book rests! "

    "There is a vast selection of serve your own drinks and snacks (I especially enjoyed the wine!) in the main house, so you never need to go hungry or thirsty if you can't / don't want to go out. At the time I stayed, there wasn't an evening menu but a lovely lunchtime menu and Marina and Gianluca were kind enough to cook me a meal from that menu or something from the kitchen in the evenings. Incredible local produce. Breakfast was simple and delicious, every morning there was a different type of cake, eggs cooked however you wanted, and cereal, juice, yoghurt, fruit: anything you could wish for. Wi-Fi was also available in and around the main house."

    "Gianluca kindly gave me a lift down to Fabro to go to the supermarket for supplies and Marina also introduced me to a wonderful Italian couple, who took me out for gorgeous pizza at nearby Montegabbione. I took a day trip to Orvieto, which is only 20 minutes by train, and enjoyed the views from the old walls. Marina so kindly picked me up from the train station when I got back. I had such a wonderful week at Podere le Olle and an unforgettable and special introduction to Italy. I needed and wanted a week completely shut off from the pressures of my normal life and I got that here and so much more. Marina and Gianluca are amazing hosts, always there when you need them, accommodating, helpful, and comforting, but never intrusive. They seem to be able to know exactly how much or how little each guest needs and provide it, always with a smile. They go way beyond the call of duty as hosts and provided me with so much more than you could expect from a bed and breakfast. I truly feel that I have made lifelong friends from this holiday both in Marina and Gianluca and the other guests I met there. I cannot praise them highly enough. I will be back!"

    "We came to Podere le Olle for a seven-day cooking course, with local outings organized by Marina. Marina and Gianluca run this bed and breakfast to an extremely high standard, delivering a high level of personal attention to detail and the comfort and convenience of their guests. We did not worry about a thing, they arranged everything, asking us in advance what we would like to cook. It was perfection; excellent hosting, helping with cooking tips and details. We could not have asked for more and would recommend the stay. It was a bit like having your own personal chef and tour guide. The breakfasts were good and the food, including the dishes we helped create, were fabulous. Gianluca is very helpful and willing to answer lots of questions; he is clearly passionate about food."
