Crete is a small culinary heaven and Petassos Travel invites you to explore it from the comfort of your own home in this 2-day cooking session. Together, you will explore and taste a small piece of the incredible variety of cooking techniques and recipes that compose the Cretan Diet. Petassos Travel will be honored to enter your kitchens virtually, and compose a series of simple, humble, nutritious, easy, and tasty Cretan dishes that you will share with the people you love.

Pre-requisite / preparation before the start

For all recipes, you will be using premium quality Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Make sure you have enough at home. List of ingredients will be sent to the customers after the booking is confirmed.

Timing of sessions (GMT +3)

  • Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday: 12:00 to 15:00
  • Thursday and Friday: 15:00 to 19:00
  • Saturday: 09:00 to 17:00

These times are only indicative and can be adjusted as per customer’s request.

Course information

Petassos Travel wants to bring you to Crete through the immediacy of the sense of taste and through cooking creativity from the comfort of your home. This two-day introduction to Cretan Diet and Cuisine is composed so you can explore all the dimensions of the Cretan flavors. Together you will:

  • Make cheese
  • Make pies
  • The Stunning Water Pies
  • Prepare a Cretan Celebrational Dish
  • Prepare a Semolina Dessert

Day 1: Making Cheese at home and a Vegetarian Pie

On this first session, you will learn how to make cheese at home. In a very simple, easy, and smart way, you will use one of the most basic techniques for cheese making and use it in the recipes.

Later, you will prepare a celebrational dish of Western Crete that is vegetarian and it can be both the perfect side dish or a very nutritious main course. It can be served cold or warm since the fresh ingredients used will be a superstar and they will maintain their flavors and aromas.

Utensils list (cheese making)

  • Deep pan or Casserole for boiling
  • Cheese cloth or a linen cloth
  • Strainer or Colander
  • Skimmer spoon
  • Optional: A heat resistant small plate that can fit in the bottom of the pan you will be using.

Prep time: 1.5 hours

Utensils list (vegetarian pie)

  • Deep tray for the oven
  • Kitchen knife or Mandolin

Prep time: 2 hours

Day 2: Cheese Pies, Water Pies, and Semolina Dessert

Every culture has a pie or dough-related dish. Today, you will explore the Cretan pies in different ways using the same simple and humble ingredients everyone has in their kitchen pantry. Delicious, easy to make great for every occasion.

Yet no table is complete without a dessert. Petassos Travel's proposition is a cake you can make and consume the entire week with the simplest of ingredients and the humblest of aromas.

Prep time: 45 minutes

  • Same as Cheese pies, plus a cup of water

Prep time: 1.5 hours

This cooking course is conducted online. Giorgos from Petassos Travel is based in Greece (GMT +3), and he will live-stream the classes via Zoom. You can participate from the comfort of your home by just using your phone or computer.
