Discover Greece in a themed journey that will lead you into the best of the culture and culinary scenes. Join for a visit to Sifnos, the food capital of Cyclades, which also stands out for its architecture, natural beauty, culture, and its chic ambiance, followed by the enjoyment of sunbathing and discovering Naxos Island and Athens, places known for their amazing beaches, medieval ruins, lush valleys, mountain villages, local food products, and their big historical and cultural backgrounds.
During this retreat, you have the choice to stay at three or four-stars hotels. You will spend two nights in Athens, two nights in Sifnos, and three nights in Naxos.
After your arrival, you will meet a tour's assistant who will transfer you to your hotel. Detailed information will be presented to you about all art and music events that will take place in Athens during your stay, as well as a list of non touristic restaurants in order to live a local experience in this city. In the evening, a tour representative will pick you up at the hotel and will take you to a selected restaurant for your first Greek seafood tasting. Afterwards, you will return to your hotel and spend the night there.
Breakfast will take place in your hotel and will energize you for a walking tour in Athens; the best way to see this city, feel its vibes, and meet locals. You will start the day by climbing the Acropolis hill, where you will enjoy a guided tour to the Parthenon, the Erectheion, and the surrounding monuments for approximately one hour and 30 minutes. Afterwards, you will descend to the Acropolis Museum and receive a tour to its fascinating exhibitions. This tour will also take one hour and 30 minutes.
Your exploration will go on by crossing Andrianou Street, the most distinctive street of Plaka neighborhood, a place full of sophisticated shops and souvenirs. Later, you will reach the imposing Roman Agora and the Tower of the Winds, and a little further down, you will have the chance to admire the Library of Hadrian and the vivid life of Monastiraki Square, a place full of people and colors.
Then, you will stop for an optional refreshing lunch break with traditional Greek street food at a nearby restaurant, followed by a walk through Athinas and Evripidou Streets, the surrounding streets of Athens Central Market. Little shops will be all around you offering herbs, delicacies, nuts, and household items, among others.
After having crossed this fascinating commercial triangle, you will arrive at Panepistimiou Street, where you will be impressed by a trilogy of neoclassical buildings, such as the National Library, the Academy, and the University of Athens. If you walk further down, you will reach Syntagma Square, the most famous square of the city. There, you will take some time to watch the valiant Evzones in front of the building of the Greek Parliament.
Having left Syntagma Square behind you, you will stroll through the lush green oasis of the National Gardens. While this will be an ideal place to relax away from the city noise, your refreshing walk will lead you to the extraordinary Panathenaic Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games took place.
If you continue for a little while, you will reach the impressive neoclassical building of Zappeion Hall before being amazed by the size of the Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Hadrian Arch. Your walk will come to an end in front of the Lycicrates monument in Plaka, at a very close distance to the Acropolis Metro Station.
By this time, you will have seen the best of Athens in a walk that includes everything, such as history, architecture, and ancient and modern city life. The evening will be for resting, before a representative meets you at the hotel for a night out in Athens. This night, you will meet some of the most prestigious bars and clubs of the city, such as the molecular mixology bar concept, a wine bar with the list of the best Greek wines. Finally, you will go back to the hotel for an overnight rest.
During this day, you will have breakfast at the hotel. Afterwards, a tour representative will meet you in order to take your transfer to Piraeus Port for your boat trip to Sifnos. In the evening, you will join a walking tour through the beautiful alleys of Apollonia, the capital of this island, named after the famous Greek god Apollo.
Sifnos is a well known culinary destination and the birthplace of Nikólaos Tselementés, a Greek chef of the early twentieth century, considered as one of the most influential cookery writers of modern Greece. You will then have free time to enjoy dinner in a local restaurant before being transferred to your hotel.
Today, you will have breakfast at your hotel followed by free time to enjoy the beautiful beaches of this island. During the evening, you will have a fascinating cooking experience at a traditional farm, where you will discover the secrets of the Sifnos' traditional diet while cooking with homegrown farm products in a very hospitable environment. You will discover the farm’s vegetable gardens, harvest, collect the local farm products, and cook them for lunch or dinner.
Usually, the duration of the cooking lessons, including the time for your meal, is between three to five hours. Sifnos' cuisine uses vegetables and locally grown herbs and plants with simple and savory recipes from the past, which have been revived with an almost exclusive use of the locally grown products, such as organic seeds and the fruits of trees like apricot and pear trees (vasilika variety), which are rare to find in the rest of the world nowadays.
The meal at the end of the lessons will consist of two salad dishes, two appetizers, and two main courses, while a choice of a local, dry white or sweet sun-dried red wine will accompany your meal. For dessert, you will pick from a selection of seasonal fruits, such as watermelon, melon, pear, apricots, and damsons, depending on the month. Finally, you will return to the hotel for an overnight rest.
During this day, you will enjoy breakfast in your hotel. Later, a representative will meet you at your hotel for your boat transfer trip to Naxos Island. Naxos is definitely one of the most authentic Greek islands, as well as it is a culinary destination where gastronomy has always been part of the local culture and history.
The island is well known for its excellent Graviera cheese, a very tasty potato, and lots of other quality edible products. You will have the chance to visit one of the traditional cheese making farms to taste the local products. Later on, you will return to your hotel for an overnight rest in order to get ready for the next day.
Today, you will have breakfast in your hotel and depart for a hiking experience. Naxos is the largest and greenest island of the Cyclades, as well as it possesses a unique landscape with old marble walkways, fertile plains, rivers, waterfalls, vineyards, and olive groves, which you will be able to enjoy during this hiking journey. This short walking trip will start at Kinidaros, followed by a farm road that will lead you to the river bed.
You will continue this hiking trip on ancient footpaths until you reach a second special place. At this point, you will take a break, which will give you time to enjoy with the special company of a nice river turtle family. Afterwards, you will continue to collect wild oregano, thyme, and sage until you reach your destination, the village of Eggares.
You will eat delicious appetizers in the best tavern of the place, with delicious products that will come directly from the village's farmers. At the end of this experience you will be transferred back to your hotel. You will have the rest of the day for you to enjoy more of Athens or simply relax and get ready for the next day.
Delicious breakfast will be served at the hotel today. You will also have free time to enjoy one of the beautiful beaches of the island.
After a farewell breakfast in your hotel, a tour representative will meet you for your transfer to the port for your boat trip to Pireaus. The end of the services will come with the transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
