Throughout the tour, you will stay in deluxe accommodations. In Lisbon, you will spend two nights at a hotel in the center of the city. You will also stay in a charming inn for two nights in Guimarães; a luxurious river-front hotel in Pinhao will be your home for two nights; and, in Crato, you will stay for one night at a luxury hotel that used to be a castle. In Evora, enjoy two nights beautiful hotel in the historic center for the next two nights; your accommodation in Sintra, where you will stay for three nights, will be in the old center.

Day 1 - Arrival

Arriving at Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS), you will be met by your wonderful tour leader and guide, Carla. After a rest at a hotel in the center of Lisbon, you will take a tour of this beautiful city. Later on, after some free time to relax or explore, you will enjoy dinner at a local restaurant serving mouth-watering Portuguese cuisine.

Day 2 - Lisbon

In the morning, you will continue exploring Lisbon’s colorful neighborhoods. Highlights of this tour are the Castelo San Jorge, high on a hill overlooking the city, and the Jeronimos Monastery, where Vasco Da Gama prayed and is buried. You will also visit a tile workshop to see how the famous Portuguese tiles are created and painted by hand. At the end of the day, you will enjoy a tapas walking tour to taste many samples of local dishes and wines.

Day 3 - Coimbra

Today, you will head north to the city of Coimbra, the birthplace of six kings and home of Portugal’s oldest university. A local guide leads the tour and takes you to his favorite pub for lunch. Next on your route is the colorful city of Porto, Portugal’s second largest city, named for port wine. You will have a tour and wine tasting at one of Portugal’s oldest port wineries. Then, continue the journey to a charming Pousada in Guimarães, the 2012 European cultural capital. Tonight, you will enjoy a wonderful dinner at the inn.

Day 4 - Guimarães

Today's guided tour of the historic center of Guimarães shows you Portugal’s first capital and home of the first King of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques. Next, you will visit the spectacular Baroque monument, the Santuario do Bom Jesus do Monte. The Stairway of the Three Virtues is an amazing sight, and to think the pilgrims used to climb it on their knees! You will have dinner tonight in Guimarães and spend a second night at the pousada.

Day 5 - Pinhao

This morning, you will depart Guimarães for Pinhão, stopping in the picturesque town of Amarante for some free time and lunch on the way. You will drive along the beautiful Douro River and check into a luxurious river-front hotel, where you enjoy a gourmet dinner later tonight.

Day 6 - Vila Nova de Foz Côa archaeological site

Today, you will visit the Vila Nova de Foz Côa archaeological site, the largest Paleolithic open-air site in the world, where you can see 20,000-year-old prehistoric rock drawings. On your way back to Pinhão, you will stop at a beautiful winery high on a hillside for a port wine tasting. Tonight, you will have another special dinner of delicious regional specialties.

Day 7 - Solar de Mateus

Today's visit to the flamboyant Solar de Mateus shows you an excellent example of Portuguese Baroque architecture. The palace is surrounded by gardens, tree covered walks, and allegorical statues. In Vila Real, you will enjoy a very special wine tasting meal, and then, take a cruise along the Douro River in a rabelo, the traditional wooden sailing ship used in days gone by to transport barrels of port up and down the river. Next, you will have a free evening to relax.

Day 8 - Marvão

Today, you will drive south through the Beiras and Tras-os-Montes regions into the Alentejo. Marvão is exciting to explore, with its narrow streets and covered alleys climbing up to the 13th century castle. From the castle, the view of the surrounding countryside is outstanding. You can easily see across the border into Spain. Tonight, you will stay at a luxury hotel that used to be a castle, a monastery, and a palace. Then, you will enjoy a gourmet dinner at the hotel.

Day 9 - Castelo de Vide

In the morning, you will visit the charming village of Castelo de Vide and then you will head for the Vila Viçosa Ducal Palace, the former residence of the Dukes of Braganza from the beginning of the 16th century. You will arrive in the ancient Roman walled town of Evora and check into a beautiful hotel in the historic center for the next two nights. Next, enjoy an entertaining cooking class followed by a gourmet dinner.

Day 10 - Monsaraz

Today, take an excursion to visit the medieval walled town of Monsaraz, perched high on a hill above the Guadiana River. A tour of the Herdade do Esporao wine estate is followed by a tasting of excellent Alentejo wines. Then, you will return to Evora to enjoy a wonderful dinner of regional specialties.

Day 11 - Ancient temple visit

In the morning, you will explore Evora’s perfectly preserved Roman temple, an unusual cathedral, and the macabre Chapel of Bones. After the visit, you will head toward the coast and arrive at the final destination, Sintra. You will spend three days in this picturesque, enchanting village, high on a hill, with quaint streets, beautiful villas, and three palaces. The hotel is in the old center, which you will explore before a wonderful dinner in town.

Day 12 - Sintra

Today is an exciting day to explore this storybook land. You will visit the historic castle in the village and the bizarre Pena Palace on top of a mountain. In the afternoon, take a short drive to the Cabo da Roca to see the ocean view from Europe’s western-most tip of land. You will have a free evening to choose one of the many enticing restaurants in the village.

Day 13 - Sintra

Today, you will visit one more beautiful palace, before you have a free afternoon to shop or explore Sintra’s quaint streets. Tonight, you are going to have a gourmet farewell dinner in an outstanding local restaurant.

Day 14 - Departure

After breakfast, you will be driven to the Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS) for the return flight.
