During this trip, you will stay in various accommodations in a shared double room. Tour prices are calculated based on per person double occupancy. On day two, you will stay in nice. On day three and four, you will stay at Calvi. On day five and six, you will stay at Ajaccio. On day seven and eight, you will stay at Bonifacio. On day nine and ten, you will stay at Alghero.

On day eleven and twelve, you will stay at Oristano. On day thirteen, you will stay at Cagliari. If you wish to reserve a single room, a single supplement is required. If you wish, Olde Ipswich Tours can let you know if another guest would like a roommate. If three people wish to share a room, a price reduction can be arranged.

Day 1

Depart from the United States and fly overnight to Nice.

Day 2: Nice

You will arrive at the airport on the French Riviera and transfer by shuttle to the hotel. After relaxing from your flight, you will then take a guided walking tour of the old historic center. Afterwards, you will enjoy a gourmet welcome dinner. You will stay overnight at a hotel in Nice. Today’s meal plan includes dinner.

Day 3: Nice to Calvi

After breakfast, you will take a short flight to the Corsican Town of Calvi. You will check into the beautiful hotel overlooking the sea and then take a walking tour of Calvi’s charming medieval port. Tonight, you will enjoy a gourmet dinner of Corsican specialties. You will stay overnight at a hotel in Calvi. Today’s meal plan includes breakfast and dinner.

Day 4: Calvi

Today, you will explore the coast around Calvi. You will meet some local Corsicans and visit a Corsican winery and olive oil producer. You will then enjoy a lunch on the beach with your new Corsican friends. You will also have time to relax at the hotel at the end of the day. You will stay overnight at a hotel in Calvi. Today’s meal plan includes breakfast and dinner.

Day 5: Calvi to Ajaccio

Departing Calvi, you will head south to the seaside town of Porto. Then, a boat ride along the coast will take you to the Scandola Nature Reserve; a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an amazing geological marvel of unusual red rock formations.

You will continue further south to the next destination, Corsica’s capital city, Ajaccio. After checking into the hotel, you will take a stroll along the elegant palm tree-lined boulevards before a wonderful dinner. You will stay overnight at the hotel in Ajaccio. Today’s meal plan includes breakfast and dinner.

Day 6: Ajaccio

This wonderful waterfront city of Ajaccio is known foremost as Napoleon’s birthplace. You will visit the house he grew up in with a local guide. In the afternoon, you will have free time to explore and choose one of the town’s many enticing restaurants for dinner. You will stay overnight at a hotel in Ajaccio. Today’s meal plan includes breakfast.

Day 7: Ajaccio to Valley of Taravo to Bonifacio

After breakfast, you will head to the Valley of Taravo, where you will discover a number of extraordinary statues and dolmens dating from Corsica’s Neolithic era, roughly from 6000 B.C. You will see several fascinating menhir-statues in Filitosa and the dolmen of Fontanaccia in Sartène. You will get the chance to see “cardial ware”, a type of pottery dating from the seventh millennium B.C.

On the Cauria plateau, you will see many of the best-preserved menhirs and dolmens. The nearby seaside resort of Propriano, an ancient town pre-dating the Romans is a perfect place for lunch. You will then continue on to Bonifacio, Corsica’s southernmost town. This amazing town is perched on a narrow limestone peninsula about one mile long which parallels the coast and forms a harbor on the southernmost point of Corsica.

Day 8: Bonifacio

This morning, you will take a guided tour to discover the beauties of this ancient town which includes the Citadel, the Etendard Bastion, and the lively port. You will have the afternoon to relax at one of the stunning beaches, take a walk along the coast, or explore the town’s many quaint streets and squares. You will stay overnight at a hotel in Bonifacio. Today’s meal plan includes breakfast.

Day 9: Bonifacio to Santa Teresa di Gallura to Alghero

A one-hour ferry ride across the Straits of Bonifacio will take you to the lovely town of Santa Teresa di Gallura on the northernmost tip of the island of Sardinia. Outside the town, lies a fascinating prehistoric village, La Brandall, and the Tomba del Giganti, a vast communal village grave used between the 14th and 10th centuries B.C. After visiting these archeological ruins, you will have lunch on the waterfront in Santa Teresa and then time to take a stroll on the beautiful beach.

You will then head west to Alghero where you will check in at the stunning hotel located on a private peninsula, a former residence of the Kings of Italy. This part of the Sardinian coast, also known as the Coral Riviera, is considered one of the most beautiful in the entire Mediterranean. Tonight, you will discover the great culinary delicacies of northwestern Sardinia. You will stay overnight at Alghero. Today’s meal plan includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 10: Alghero

This morning, you will take a boat trip to one of the most fascinating jewels of the whole Mediterranean which is the caves of Neptune, an authentic geological marvel. In the afternoon, you will visit one of the most important wine resorts and olive oil producers in North Sardinia.

The owner will take you for a walk through the vineyards with a guided tasting of the wines and olive oils, paired with typical sausages and different kinds of cheeses from local artisan farmers. You will stay overnight at Alghero. Today’s meal plan includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 11: Alghero to Bosa to Tharros to Oristano

Today, you will take the most beautiful road in Sardinia on the drive south to Bosa, a 45-mile of breathtaking views on stunning rocky cliffs that overlook the sea. Bosa, an ancient Phoenician town with a long and renowned tradition for seafood, is the perfect place to stop and relax for lunch. In the afternoon, you will visit the ancient archeological area of Tharros, another city founded by the Phoenicians in the early seventh century B.C.

On the protected Sinis Peninsula, you will discover how diverse cultures overlap in a layered architecture. From the Phoenicians to the Greeks and finally the Romans. You will check into the small boutique hotel, an old farmhouse with a fabulous wine cellar. You will stay the night at a hotel in Oristano. Today’s meal plan includes breakfast and dinner.

Day 12: Oristano

Today, you will go on a guided tour of Oristano, a lively city with a medieval center and stunning Cathedral founded in 1253. While strolling through the center, you will observe the joy and vitality of the locals and its tiny alleys. After lunch, you will head back to the hotel, where the chef will guide you in an entertaining cooking class. The lesson will focus on fish recipes and is located on the beautiful beach at the hotel.

Day 13: Oristano to Su Nuraxi to Cagliari

After breakfast, you will drive south towards Cagliari, Sardinia’s largest city, stopping en-route at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Su Nuraxi. Here, you will see pre-eminent examples of the Sardinian nuraghe, ancient megalithic constructions developed during the Nuragic age (1900-730 B.C.). After a delicious picnic lunch, you will continue on to Cagliari and arrive at the centrally-located hotel.

After a stroll in the city center, you will enjoy a gourmet farewell dinner of local traditional cuisine. You will stay overnight at Cagliari. Today’s meal plan includes breakfast and dinner.

Day 14: Cagliari

This morning, you will transfer to the Cagliari Elmas Airport (CAG) for your return flights home. Today’s meal plan includes breakfast.
