When it comes to food festivals, it’s hard to find one better than Foodies Festival. This winter, head to Edinburgh and enjoy watching chef demonstrations, discovering new and upcoming musical talent and, of course, enjoy plenty of delicious food.
One rule that you must adhere to at foodies - always check out food festivals with an empty stomach. You never know which tantalizingly tasty dish is around the next corner and at Foodies, you can sample dishes from all over the globe. From Persian chicken to Greek souvlaki, there’s enough here that you’re likely to try something you have never even heard of.
As well as food, there is also a Scottish gin tent, Christmas cocktail masterclasses, and live music to enjoy with a bite to eat. Kids are more than welcome to visit too, and they can even get their hands dirty at the Elf Cookery School and make their very own gingerbread men.
The Fantastical Chocolate Festival, Manchester
A day full of delicious confectionery, live music, and talented chocolatiers, The Fantastical Chocolate Festival is a treat not to be missed, especially if you have a sweet tooth!
Stock up on tasty treats for you and your family and friends and enjoy a day full of Willy Wonka inspired characters and events. There are some additional chocolate-themed surprises included with your ticket, and you’ll receive a Chocolate Festival tote bag so that you can stash your goodies, a festival mug, and a sweet or savory skewer to dip in one of the many chocolate fountains.
As well as plenty of independent and artisan traders, there is also free themed photo booths so that you can get some lasting memories of the day, as well as drink and cocktail, stands where you can try an artisan hot chocolate or an alcoholic milkshake. If you are taking little ones along with you, they’re sure to enjoy spending some time in the themed characters and story corners, as well as getting their hands dirty by making and decorating some of their own chocolate treats.
Cheese And Wine Tasting, Glasgow
Who can resist the temptation of fine cheeses and perfectly paired wines? One of Glasgow’s most popular events, Marchtown’s Cheese & Wine Tasting evenings are the perfect way to wind down after a busy day at work or are the perfect birthday or Christmas gift.
This 90-minute session consists of specially selected wines paired with an amazing range of cheeses from IJ Mellis. All wines tasted on the evening are available to buy and take home and come with a discount especially given out on the night.
Thor’s Tipi, Leeds
Thor’s Tipi is a Viking-inspired pop-up bar which is taking over Victoria Gardens this Christmas. Not just a place for a festive tipple, Thor’s also have special hot chocolates that are perfect for children, non-drinkers and designated drivers so that everyone can get in on the Viking-themed Christmas action!
Thor’s Tipi doesn’t just offer drinks, there is also a Viking-inspired BBQ menu on offer to go alongside your favorite Christmas beverages from one of the best Leeds restaurants, The Mussel Pot. The tipi makes for a unique setting and has a cozy feel to it, complete with open fires and fairy lights for ultimate snug-ness. With candles and low-lighting, it’s the perfect place to relax whilst taking in the hustle and bustle of Leeds, too.
If you want a true Viking-feast, then one of the Viking meat boats is a must-have - you get roast pork, fries and slaw with other accompaniments, or try the famous Moules Mariniere or Cheese Raclette if that doesn’t take your fancy.
The hot chocolate station is something that needs to be seen to be believed. As well as whipped cream and marshmallows, you can also add syrups, such as hazelnut and clementine, or if you want to give it a little punch, then get a shot of Thor’s salted caramel vodka.
The Wasted Supper, London
The Wasted Supper is a pop-up event brought to you by Dinner Ladies - a culinary collective who are working to put their creative skills to the test and try and lessen the amount of food wasted. This event is an opportunity to become part of a sustainable evening which offers and celebrates food and fashion.
The concept is that you “swap” for your supper, by bringing items from your cupboards or fridge that need clearing before Christmas. Dinner Ladies will then bring these ingredients to life and create a meal for everyone to enjoy together. As well as an evening of revamped food, The Wasted Supper are also arranging clothes swap so that you can also bring along any unwanted clothing and exchange it for something new - one person’s trash is another’s treasure, after all!
The night promises to be full of fun, food, fashion and drinks and is a great opportunity for you to get involved in the fight on waste. Any food and clothing which is left over will then be donated to the Streets Kitchen!
