Birthdays are some of the most important dates in our lives – and because of it, we need to treat them in a special way!
Like any event, the better you plan it, the more likely that it’d be one you will fondly remember for years to come. That said, we understand that it can be overwhelming or even frustrating to plan for such a special celebration. So, if you’re currently planning a birthday party – whether it’s for your own or to surprise a loved one – we have a couple of helpful suggestions that will make it extra special and memorable:
Go out on a picnic
When’s the last time you had a picnic with your friends and family? We’re willing to bet that for most of you, the answer would be something along the line of ‘It’s been so long that I can’t remember!’. Well, if this happens to the case and you have access to a great backyard or a nice park in the city you’re residing in, a picnic can be a unique yet fun way to celebrate a birthday with your loved ones.
The great thing about a picnic is that you get to spend more time in the great outdoors, and you don’t necessarily have to spend a lot of money (after all, the venue is free!), but do make sure that you bring enough blankets, as well as plenty of delicious food for people to munch on.
Alternatively, you can also hold a barbeque party – it's most suitable to host it in a private backyard, however, some parks do allow it too (you would definitely need to check in advance whether your local park allows it).
Plan a Day Trip
If you’ve been craving for something different, a day trip can be a fantastic alternative to the run-of-the-mill birthday parties. The first step is to think of your interests and your favorite places and this will help you to come up with exciting ideas.
For instance, are you a movie buff? Why not host your party at a local cinema? Some movie theaters even have private cinemas that you can rent out. If you’re a fan of the water, why not host your birthday at a water park or a beach? Or do you happen to be a food lover? Then book yourself and a handful of your loved ones a weekend culinary vacation! Whatever your preference, there are a wide variety of day trips and excursions you can choose from where you can create lots of fun memories.
Host a theme party at home
Don’t feel like going out to celebrate your birthday? Invite your friends and relatives to your place for a theme party! Decorate and set the dress code accordingly. And of course, you must not forget to order themed birthday cakes for the party too! The most important part is to have fun with it. You may even recall your theme birthday parties as a child and use similar themes. Theme parties are enjoyable for kids and adults alike.
Give a personalized gift
It comes to no surprise that part of planning a great birthday party is to determine the gift you’ll be giving. If you’re planning a party for someone else – say your spouse or your best friend, it’s always best to give something that is personalized or catered specifically to their interests or preferences.
One question you can ask yourself to help you to come up with a list of gift ideas is ‘What would they appreciate or use that they won’t necessarily purchase for themselves?’. If your loved one is a wine enthusiast, for example, they will be more than happy to receive a wine holiday!
There you have it, ideas to plan a special birthday celebration. Keep in mind that though nice gifts and great birthday parties may be nice, there’s nothing more heart-warming than giving those you love the gift of your presence but of course, having a great cake is always a plus.
