On this vacation, you will spend six nights in Maison du Sud, a smart centrally located riad where you will discover the best of Morocco. Located 300 meters from the sea, Riad Maison du Sud is a beautifully restored 18th Century hotel set at the heart of Essaouiras bustling medina. Luxuriously renovated in Moorish style, the 24 roomed riad offers an authentic mix of Moroccan and Andalusian architecture, design and style, making it the perfect boutique residence.
The riad has many quiet salons to relax in as well as two large rooftop terraces with sea views to enjoy breakfast on whilst the service at the riad is attentive yet understated in the long tradition of Moroccos finest establishments. At Riad Maison du Sud, you will experience a friendly personalized service with staff that speaks several languages. The rooms and the continuations open all on a luminous internal patio decorates azulejos. All with bathroom of a meticulous cleanliness, decorated with a special attention, in the respect of the art and Moroccan tradition. You will be picked up from Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) and transferred to your accommodation in Essaouira. You will have time to settle into your luxurious Moroccan riad and soak up the atmosphere. In the evening, you will enjoy a traditional Moroccan meal and mint tea.
Your day starts at 09:30, after breakfast, with an introduction to Moroccan spices in Essaouira's traditional medina. Afterwards, you will depart for a countryside trip to the region's most colorful and busiest market to source ingredients with your hosts; the market is very traditional and offers a taste of the real Morocco. On your first day, you will have two cooking workshops for lunch, followed by dinner, which will take place at the hosts kitchen in the countryside.
Today, you will attend to two workshops in which you will learn the photography fundamentals (camera controls, exposure - ISO, shutter speed, aperture, and histograms) and receive tutor feedback. The photography course starts at 10:00, after breakfast, with a wander around the beautiful town of Essaouira, the home of your photography tutor and famous the world over. Before the evening meal, you will have the chance to review and get feedback on your initial images as a group.
The focus of todays tuition will be on two abstract workshops in the medina and port, focusing mostly on using depth of field. You will also benefit from a one-to-one feedback during the day to assess your progress, providing feedback on your images and taking your understanding a step further. Prior to the evening group meal, you will have a chance to review the images of the day with your tutor and the rest of the group.
Today will be given to exploring reportage photography and the art of photographing people at a local Berber market 20 minutes from Essaouira, a different market to the one on day two, and more ideally suited to photography. You can also explore the argan forest nearby. Afterwards, you will also have a portrait workshop photographing ladies producing argan oil in a production cooperative. Your third cooking class will take place shortly after lunch followed by your transfer back to the medina in the early evening.
This is a free day for you to relax and have fun in the medina.
After breakfast, you will check out of the riad in time to be taken to Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) for your return flight.
This culinary holiday takes place in Morocco, in the relaxed coastal town of Essaouira.
On this stunning vacation, you will be served daily breakfast, two lunches prior to your two cooking classes, and four group dinners in local restaurants on the days you're not cooking. Please note that the location of your evening meals does vary from week to week and depends on where the group would like to eat (usually one evening is spent in the riad).
Moroccan cooking is one of the worlds most distinct cuisines, with a multitude of subtle spices each tailored for meat, fish, chicken, and vegetable dishes. On this vacation, you can find the conical shaped tagine dish (instantly recognizable as a North African icon, with encased aromatic flavors, a combination of fruit, nuts, and spices infused with selected meats or vegetables), pastilla, briouats, and couscous on the menu, alongside a variety of starters, side dishes and Moroccan patisseries.
