Delicious Slovenia Food and Culture Tour

Slovenia's rich culinary history has its roots firmly planted in both Italian and Austrian fare. The cooking portion of the tour will focus on organic farm (and forest) to table cuisine with an emphasis on seasonality and sustainability. After a few days in the picturesque capital of Ljubljana, the group will move on to the Krka Valley with its rolling hills, charming villages and farmhouses.

For two nights, the accommodation takes place at the Antiq Hotel set in Ljubljana. For the other 5 nights, the accommodation will take place at the Novak Lodge at Krka Valley.


Day 1 - Dobrodosli

  • Settle in at the Antiq Hotel after arriving to Ljubljana.
  • The group will meet for cocktails and introductions along the river before heading out to one of the citys best restaurants.

Day 2 - Walking tour

  • You will start the day with a walking tour of Ljubljana with its dazzling hilltop castle and emerald green river, followed by free time to enjoy the shops and sidewalk cafes.
  • Afternoon - Cooking class and dinner of local specialties.

Day 3 - Excursion

  • You'll head to the Novak Lodge by way of the scenic Julian Alps.
  • The first stop, Skopia Loka, is one of Slovenias best-preserved medieval towns.
  • After walking the narrow, cobblestone streets, you will have lunch based on local specialties at a centuries-old restaurant.
  • You will then continue on to scenic Lake Bled with a tour of its castle and famous pastry shops.

Day 4 - Excursion, cooking class

  • Visit Sticna Abbey, the oldest monastery in the country, before heading to Otecec castle for lunch.
  • An afternoon cooking class will be followed by dinner with wine pairing.

Day 5 - Excursion, wine tasting

  • Predjama Castle, romantically nestled into a hillside, is the first stop on the way to Slovenia's most famous wine region-Nova Gorica.
  • The group will have lunch at an acclaimed restaurant and enjoy a wine tasting with a local family at their vineyards.
  • Then, you'll cross the border into Italy and visit Trieste, the country's northernmost port city. Enjoy the coffee houses and wander the scenic streets.

Day 6 - Mushroom hunt, cooking class

  • You will begin the day with a mushroom hunt in the forest!
  • The group will then gather in the kitchen in order to magically transform the fruits of your labor into an inviting meal.
  • The afternoon will be full of optional activities like hiking, cooking or visiting the nearby famed spa town of Dolenjske Toplice.
  • Dinner.

Day 7 - Excursion, cooking class

  • Today, you will explore the eastern part of Slovenia and the Pleterje Monastery with its 19th century village museum.
  • Afternoon cooking class followed by the farewell dinner with fresh trout from the Krka River, prepared four ways, accompanied by regional wines and homemade aperitifs.

Day 8 - Departure

  • After a final breakfast together, return to either the Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) or the train station.

The days on this tour will be quite busy. Nevertheless, you can always take your time to enjoy the scenic street views and their historical pubs. Shopping is also a good idea if you don't want to hike! On the sixth day, you have the options of hiking, cooking or visiting the nearby famed spa town of Dolenjske Toplice.

Spa treatments

You can visit the Dolenjske Toplice town in the sixth day of the tour, and enjoy here one of its famous spa treatments. Treatments are not included in the package price.
