Our jungle lodge is a full service resort facility with eight rustic yet comfortable first class air-conditioned thatch and colonial tile-roofed cottages, individual rooms, swimming pool, first rate open air dining, free wireless internet, nature trails, all surrounded by the beautifully landscaped rain-forest.

We are a jungle lodge so we dont shelter ourselves for the rainforest we embrace it. Our guests enjoy amazing tropical cuisine to the sounds of exotic birds, views of flowing plants and fruit trees, gentle breezes, and the occasional visit from a passing gecko. After a long day of adventure tours guests can be found swimming in our pool, taking leisurely walks on our nature trails, or laying in their hammock reading to the sound of a toucan in the distance.

We have two family cottages: Toucan - has a double plus 2 bunks / Gibnut - double plus a bunk and a single. All are tastefully decorated with regional decor. Each cottage has its own porch with a hammock. Our cottages come in a variety of sizes to accommodate anyone from newlyweds to big families.

Maya Mountain Lodge is located in Belize's Cayo District with access to many days of exploring and adventure. Nestled against a private jungle reserve, yet at the edge of the small town of San Ignacio, Cayo, Maya Mountain Lodge is located conveniently for both cultural and natural history investigation, making it a perfect adventure base for exploring San Ignacio, Cayo District and Belize.

Belize is located on the Yucatan Peninsula, south of Mexico and east of Guatemala. The total area of Belize is 22,960 square miles and the land area is 22,800 square miles. Belize is slightly larger than Massachusetts and almost exactly the same size as El Salvador. Belize has a coastline of 208 miles, and land boundaries totaling 279 miles. These boundaries are bordering Guatemala for 144 miles and Mexico for 135 miles.

Belize has hardly any elevation at all. Most of the interior terrain is dense tropical forest. On the coast, the terrain is mostly a swampy plain. In the southern area of the country, the Maya Mountains boast the 3,000 foot high Victoria Peak. Off the coast, thousands of islands exist. Some major spots for tourism are: Ambergris Caye, The Turneffe Islands, Caye Caulker, Lighthouse Reef, and Half Moon Caye. The climate of Belize is tropical. It is very hot and humid. The average temperature is 79 degrees F. This temperature varies little throughout the year. In the mountains it gets quite chilly at times (50s).

"We started our visit to Belize at this wonderful lodge. The setting is beautiful and soothing. Accommodations were perfect for us. This is not staying at a posh city hotel so if that is the style you seek this might not be for you but if you wish to be immersed in the environment then you just scored. Staff is wonderful and extremely helpful in every way. The food coming out of the kitchen was amazing. We typically don't eat in the same place repeatedly while traveling but we made an exception here returning for several meals. Local foods served in wonderful and tasty ways. The staff helped us coordinate several day trips that led to some of the best experiences of our trip. Do not miss the local Actun Tunichil Mukal cave; an adventure to visit a Maya archeological site. We also spent a day exploring Tikalin Guatemala; just wonderful. The common space at the lodge was also very welcoming and we enjoyed meeting some of the other guests. Thank you for a wonderful stay. I highly recommend the Maya Mountain Lodge."

"Thoroughly enjoyed our week-long stay at the Maya Mountain Lodge. The staff was so friendly and we felt safe, comfortable and among friends. It was centrally located for many of the Mayan sites and each evening we came "home" to the most awesome dinners! I highly recommend and look forward to another visit."

"Actually nicer than expected ! Very friendly staff, lovely thatched Mayan cottages up winding paths through tropical flora. Pool ( we didn't even use because we went to Rio On) . Arrived on Sunday and they had Garifuna night with a sibling group of dancers, musicians, and singers - owner very keen on us getting to know the culture. Very close to San Ignacio and on the road to mountain pine ridge so perfect for us. Would stay again."

"My sister and I have the pleasure to travel to Belize in May. We decided to sign up for the all inclusive jungle and beach 6 day package because we both were too busy to plan all the details for our trip. It was such a great experience! Everything was prearranged-- all of our pickups, activities, and food. Mayan Mountain Lodge is gorgeous, the food is delicious, and the staff was so friendly. The rooms are nice, but very simple. Great location and really overall just such a great trip!"

"Im so glad I didn't stay in the very small town of San Ignacio. Staying in the jungle was a much nicer experience from what I gathered. MML is staffed with warm and friendly people and I enjoyed good conversation with the owner, Bart, from the US (has been living in Belize for a long long time...40+ years?). The grounds have been developed by him and his wife with a variety of plants with labels. I wish I could include some pics but I haven't uploaded them to my computer yet. The cottages looked cute and private, but the "lodge" was good for us, since we needed the space with two teens. Loved the hammocks everywhere."

"I traveled with a friend to Belize on late-November. Luckily, we decided to stay at Maya Mountain. The location was great (close to Tikal, ATM, and more). It is not the fanciest of hotels, but very comfortable. The grounds are beautiful-lush with lots of plants and wildlife. The amenities were perfect for our 3-night stay. I loved the hammocks! The staff is fantastic (very warm, welcoming, and helpful). We had a great stay and would definitely go back."

"Our family enjoyed the stay. The room was adequate. The pool was refreshing. It is about a 15-minute walk into town. The resort offered tours and food as a package and we were glad we did that. Food was delicious and we really enjoyed the cooking class with George. It may be a bit on the speedy side for food, but it is way better than anything you will find in town. They don't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own, just ask to stop at a grocery store when you are out on tours. There are several individual cabins to stay in. Air conditioning was adequate. You'll see lots of birds. And jungle critters. It is on a quiet rode which you will appreciate. After cruising around San Ignacio, this was one of the best resorts in town. The staff was amazing and will ensure you have or can get anything. They were the best part."

"We stayed at Maya Mountain Lodge 20 years ago and wanted to return with our teenage kids. The lodge was just as good as we remembered. A pool has been added which was nice after a hot day visiting various Mayan sites. The staff was great, very helpful with all arrangements for tours and questions about activities in San Ignacio. Food was excellent. They have a regular menu you can order from or theme dinners that feature regional ethic groups of Belize (Garifuna, Mayan, Lebanese, etc.). These were excellent and a great opportunity learn about the country. Cabanas were clean and comfortable. There were lots of wildlife (birds, agouti, lizards) that can be seen from the open dining area."
