Maria's cooking philosophy is quite simple: she wants to teach people to cook and enjoy good and healthy food. Choose our hands-on cooking classes in a historic Venetian Villa of the 15th century, to create an unforgettable holiday that combines Italian food, wine, art and culture. Class includes the main menu, soup, appetizer, snacks or dessert. The local women of Veneto will share their techniques, special ingredients, and family recipes. Our classes are ideal for cooks at all experience levels. Enjoy our traditional cuisine and the noble wines of the Veneto. A half-day excursion is organized with visits to a fish market of Chioggia.

Accommodation

Tenuta Castel Venezze, once a prestigious villa owned by noblemen, was built in the fifteenth century. Beautiful antiques and ornaments reflect the elegant style of that era. This original villa is the oldest building in the area.

With the Contessa's concern for the ecology and authenticity of Tenuta Castel Venezze, she has developed the estate to retain its rural charm but with the additions of superior modern accommodation.

Enjoy maximum privacy with a warm, kind, pleasant atmosphere. It also features a beautiful garden and a swimming pool that is disinfected with mineral salts only. The size of the swimming pool is 12 x 6m available from May to September.

Program

Day 1: Arrival

  • Arrival at Tenuta Castel Venezze.
  • Time to mingle with the other guests and welcome dinner offered by the family.
  • Introduction to the program.

Day 2: Cooking class, free time

  • Get ready! Today you're going to start making pasta using techniques and recipes handed down through generations of local women.
  • Lunch at the villa with d.o.c. wine.
  • Optional tour: In the afternoon, if you wish, you can meet our Sommelier Mario Piccinin for a wine and cheese tasting course. There will be a focus on the nearby regions of the Euganean Hills (Colli Euganei), Valdobbiadene-Conegliano to prepare you for your upcoming excursions. This wine and cheese tasting covers four wines, and four d.o.p. Italian Cheeses. You will study each wine in depth as you discuss the names, colours, aromas, tastes, food pairings, serving temperatures, best ages, alcohol levels and geographical areas.
  • Dinner at the villa.

Day 3: Cooking class, free time

  • Hands-on cooking lesson during which you will learn how to make and cook another complete traditional Italian menu, from appetizers to dessert.
  • Lunch at the villa with wine.
  • Optional tour: After lunch you can choose a wine tasting at the historical winery Il Dominio di Bagnoli where you'll taste the famous Friularo (red dry wine) in the cellars of the 14th century. You will be back at 18:00. Transfer included.
  • Dinner at the villa.

Day 4: Cooking class, free time

  • Third hands-on cooking lesson. At the end, you sit down and enjoy the meal together.
  • Optional tour: In the afternoon you have the possibility to visit a Salami production farm or a Buffalo Cheese farm near Ferrara, where you will have an unforgettable tasting together with the farmers and your guide. If you prefer, you can choose a guided visit with wine tasting to a beautiful wine cellar on the Euganean Hills.
  • Dinner at the villa.

Day 5: Market visit, cooking class

  • You go to Chioggia today, the "little Venice". First, you will visit the Mercato Centrale, the famous fish market, and then take time also for sightseeing and shopping.
  • Cooking lesson with focus on Seafood and lunch today will be at one of Chioggia's oldest and best trattorias.
  • Return to Tenuta Castel Venezze after lunch, and free time.
  • Tonight you will enjoy dinner at the villa.

Day 6: Departure

  • Breakfast, transfer to airport or train station, departure.

The program is flexible and available to adjust to customer's preferences. The basic program includes the following tours (full day):

  • Euganean Hills wine tour with two wine tasting and lunch in a typical Trattoria in the area
  • Chioggia fish market and seafood with lunch in a typical Trattoria in the area

It is possible to change the basic tours with the following others tours (full day):

  • Oil mill tour with tasting and lunch in a typical Trattoria in the area
  • Prosecco Valdobbiadene DOCG wine tour with two wine tasting and lunch in a typical Trattoria in the area
  • Valpolicella wine tour with two wine tasting and lunch in a typical Trattoria in the area
  • Delta del Po' in the boat tour with lunch in a typical Trattoria in the area

Location

During your course, you will be staying near Venice, at Tenuta Castel Venezze, Contessa Maria Giustiniani's Estate. A private property set in the heart of a beautiful green and cool garden, it offers you an oasis of peace and tranquility.

The historic Venetian Villa of the fifteenth Century is located in the heart of the Venetian countryside, between 20 minutes to 1 hour distance from well known cities of art and beautiful places like Venice, Ferrara, Padua, Lake Garda, the fishing port of Chioggia, Vicenza, Verona, Ravenna, Bologna, the Po Delta, and the Brenta Villas.

How to get there

Arrival by air

The nearest aiports are Venice, Bologna and Verona (1 hour). Treviso airport is about 1.5 hours.

Many people from Britain fly from Stansted with Ryanair. Their destinations are Treviso, Bologna, Bergamo.

For our area Treviso is excellent because within 5 minutes of the airport there is a motorway road that has an exit just ten to fifteen minutes from us. It is better if you rent the car at the time of booking the air tickets, particularly if you do it on-line.

Low-cost flights are with Ryanair.com and Easyjet.

British Airways and Alitalia fly to Venice and Bologna and many guests use those routes.

Arrival by train

You can take a train to Santa Lucia’s Venice train station: there is one every hour to Rovigo, which is the nearest city to Maria's Cookery Course, it takes about 1 hour to get there and a single ticket costs 7 Euro per person. At Rovigo Maria's Cookery Course will provide a taxi, the cost of which is 20 Euro one-way. In case Maria will be free, she can come directly to the station to pick you up to our Tenuta for free (She has almost always the time to do it). Please contact Maria's Cookery Course for further information.

Arrival by taxi

In case you decide to come directly by taxi, Maria's Cookery Course will provide one directly to Piazzale Roma in Venice: it takes about 1 hour to reach our Tenuta and the price is 90 EUR one way or 200 EUR round trip.
