My boyfriend and I spent six evenings in one of Mango Bay's amazing beachfront bures during the month of December. The place exceeded our expectations! Firstly, the beach is nice and the water is crystal clear. The beach boasts a reef to snorkel to, a must activity. Our bure was adorable and equipped with a lovely outdoor shower. The bure had a cute, whimsy charm that I have never had the pleasure of experiencing elsewhere. Since it was the slow season due to rain, we were some of the only visitors on site. The staff, owner and his son were super friendly and attentive, trying to make sure we remained occupied with activities (snorkeling, fishing, kayaking) and amazing meals. Speaking of meals, O-M-G SO good. Lunch and dinner was always fresh and the staff even served us a Mahi Mahi that my boyfriend caught on a fishing excursion. Straight from the ocean to our table (in under an hour!) So stoked we came here and got to experience it.

I used the reviews here to book Mango Bay Resort and they were all on-point. This is a great resort - amazing beach and rooms, low key, great vibe. At first, it was a little odd that there was no bar or restaurant, but in truth, it would change the entire experience and I think it works better this way. We went here with another couple, and we all characterized this as the best vacation we've had in years. Mango Bay Resort is centrally located, too, so we had an easy time getting around. (Renting a car on the island is a must - we used Mahogany Car Rental and they were fantastic as well.) Gino was super accommodating - everything was just easy, breezy here. This is a no-fuss place and while I typically like a little more "luxe", the location and value of this resort is amazing. Also enjoyed that other guests were easy going, friendly and interesting. I would go back here in a heart beat. I was worried about the mosquitoes too, based on other reviews - I typically get eaten alive by them. There are mosquitoes and if you don't keep the sliders shut, they will get in your room. I suggest going to amazon and spending the 15 USD on a net just for peace of mind/in case. I did, and never used it. I also brought bug spray and used this in the evenings when I needed to. One more note: snorkeling here is fantastic. They have masks and fins, but I suggest bringing your own mask if you are picky about that (theirs are gently used - fine for a quick snorkel, but I bought a new one for 25 USD at a dive shop and was a game changer).

Private, secluded and still casual. We had an amazing time at Mango Bay. Accommodation was more than fine for us (we had the ocean view studio) but what made the difference was the staff (Gino was great and sooo helpful) and the beach. Mahoe bay was extremely beautiful, with good snorkelling and the chance to kayak to other beaches like Savanah, for more snorkelling and beach time. We also loved their floating mats. Most of the days, we had the beach to ourselves. This was not our first visit, and mosquitoes were voracious all around the island. Mango Bay was not different; anyway it was November, after the rains. If you are after a special place with great beach, snorkelling and no crowds, book Mango Bay!

Mango Bay Resort is a typical Fijian style resort situated in Sagoutka some one hour and a half drive from Suva. The resort consists of a number of typical bures and villas with some bures situated on the waters edge. The bures are ok for a few relaxing days but the shower is outside at the back of the buree and although private, might not be ideal on a windy/rainy day. The bed was a bit hard and not very comfortable. The food at the resort is ok, but nothing to write home about and could be much better. The general appearance and hygiene of the resort also leave much to be desired. The main difficulty with this resort is however that it is very isolated and there is very little activity going on. I spent a weekend there and there were barely thirty people staying at the resort, with very little activity going on. It is boring, unless you want to spend your time sunbathing but the sun beds are also few and limited. When the tide is low, its not easy to swim in the sea and the swimming pool is ridiculously small and not attractive. I have to believe that there are better resorts in Fiji!
