Come to a heaven of tranquility and peace located in a picturesque landscape, famous all over the world for art, culture, cuisine, and great wines. Among this atmosphere, your cooking courses are the perfect match! Your love for food will find here its natural location: the recipes proposed are from the Tuscan cuisine, some of them specifically from Cortona and the Chiana Valley territory. Come to discover Tuscan food!
Once upon a time, there was an ancient mill to crush olives, today it houses a lovely and charming inn and an extraordinary restaurant with typical Tuscan cuisine where guests arrive and stay with pleasure because they feel welcome, a place easy to reach but hard to leave.
Whatever the reason of your trip to Tuscany, the Locanda is the right place, the right spot to enjoy the beauty of the countryside around Cortona, to taste the true flavors of dishes, simple, but full of tradition to offer lovers a romantic lodging.
The Locanda is located in Montanare, a few miles from the Etruscan Cortona, in the highest part of the Esse Valley, which leads to green Umbria and to Lake Trasimeno, a perfect location to discover the many artistic treasures that surround it.
The Locanda's eight bedrooms overlook the small Esse Creek. The ripple of the stream will call you to sleep and welcome your awakening. Each room has different characteristics, colors, and decor but every single one keeps the authentic flair of Tuscan country inns.
Absolutely lovable in its rustic minimalism, it has a king-size bed, private bathroom with shower or bathtub. A third bed is available only in some of this type of rooms. A baby crib is always available.
All the bedrooms have private bathrooms, some with showers, other with Jacuzzi, hair-dryer, mini-bar, telephone, security box, and air-conditioning.
Recipes are selected from the tradition, and the chef elaborates upon the recipes to make them possible using modern techniques and to make them palatable for modern tastes. His joy is to share with aspirant chefs the history and folklore: participants will be able to immerse themselves in a completely bucolic and goliardic atmosphere. The most important element is to offer recipes easy to replicate by yourselves for a dinner party with family and friends but accompanied rigorously by Tuscan wines.
Upon arrival, guests are shown to their rooms and made comfortable. Welcome cocktail and dinner: your first Tuscan meal in a typical restaurant.
After breakfast, welcome in the kitchen for your first cooking lesson “Pane, olio e fantasia." Lunch with your creations accompanied by great Tuscan wines. In the evening, you will be taken on a visit of Baracchi’s vineyards and winery. It includes a guided walk through the vineyards and an in-depth explanation of winemaking from the vineyard to the bottle. A delicious gourmet dinner will delight your taste at a starred restaurant.
In the morning a guided sightseeing tour of Cortona for a visit of this charming city, setting of the book and movie “Under the Tuscan Sun.” If possible, you will stop also at the weekly market to buy ingredients for the lesson. Lunch in Cortona at the third restaurant, Bottega Baracchi. Return to Locanda del Molino for your second cooking lesson featuring Etruscan cuisine. This menu is based on the ancient Etruscan civilization and its influences. Dinner to follow based on your efforts, wine included.
In the morning, departure to Montepulciano for the visit and wine tasting of Poliziano winery. Then you continue on to Monticchiello for a visit to the town. Lunch break in a typical tavern: wine and cheese tasting. On the way back to Montepulciano, there will be a visit to the city with its ancient cellars. Just outside the town, you will visit a wine estate.
Relax and in the late afternoon, you will have your third cooking lesson with a focus on pasta. The different and various kind of handmade pasta and some among the most typical sauce. Wine and Vinsanto are the masterpieces of the evening!
Today you will have a very local experience: the cinta senese pork. A local producer will show you how prosciutto, salami, and salsicce are made. Some tasting will be offered by the producer too. In the afternoon, your fourth cooking lesson “The many flavors of Tuscany” will take place. Using the fine meat of cinta senese pork, you will have a full immersion on a meat lesson! Enjoy your dishes during dinner!
After breakfast another typical local experience: a making cheese lesson. You will visit a local farm to have the milk and learn how pecorino and ricotta cheese are easily made! Goodbye party at Locanda del Molino, fun and music!
Breakfast and the warmest arrivederci at the Locanda del Molino.
Depending on the season the program could be subject to changes.
Cortona, on the hilltop north of Lake Trasimeno, keeps the thick strata dating back to the Etruscan up to the Renaissance. A city that unites urban qualities and monumental spaces, filled with art and history, with glimpses of rural life, where the monasteries' small gates, the greenery surrounded small churches, the houses that climb steeply to the top of the hill, everything vibrates with the flavor of the sleepy agrestal villages hidden in the Tuscan countryside.
The mighty Etruscan walls, honed by centuries and by the wind, enclose a huge treasure trove of art and culture: from the Etruscans to Fra Angelico, from Luca Signorelli to Pietro Berrettini; all to leave you breathless and awed by such beauty.
Events: National Antique Fair, end of August and first two weeks in September; Archidado re-enactment of the medieval joust; Festival of the Chianina beef-steak; Tuscan Sun Festival, first two weeks in August.
Montepulciano, which history says was founded by the Etruscan Porsenna and of which there is proof of its existence dating to 714 BC. The numerous masterpieces by Renaissance artists have given it the name of "Pearl of the Sixteenth Century" and now also thanks to the production of Vino Nobile it has become world famous.
Daily buffet breakfast is included, as well as welcome aperitif and dinner with wine included. Three lunches and four dinners as per the description above are also included. Because of the focus theme of the tour, any allergies or intolerances by the customers must be communicated at confirmation time.
To be part of the world of the falconry will be a very special moment! The team of local falconries will welcome you and will show and teach you the ancient art of hunting with falcons. Peregrine falcon is good for high flights and Astore or Harris hawks are good for low flights, but both will bring you in the magical world of the falconry, rediscovering the contact with nature and wildlife spirit.
