This 3-day tour is designed to cover two important wine regions of Spain famous for their rolling plains, vineyards and castles. You will be visiting several towns all renown for the wine production and the unique local foods including lechazo - roasted suckling lamb or cochinillo - roasted suckling pig. Your visit will take you to family owned wineries where mother, daughter, father, and son have been continuing the tradition for generations. You will receive a proper introduction and understand what makes these wineries unique. Tasting wine aged in French or American oak provides an insight of this millenary art that dates back to before the Romans.
You will be staying in 3-star hotels, centrally located, in both Valladolid and Peñaranda.
Your visits will take you to many wineries tasting wines of Rueda, Toro, Ribera, Cigales, and Tierras de Leon. You will learn how wine barrels are roasted, how the locals make artisanal cheese, and savor in the taste of amazing roasted suckling lamb. Of course, there are a few surprises which have yet to be revealed.
Depart Madrid to Segovia, stop for panoramic views and lunch, continue onto Valladolid with a stop to see a Rueda winery. Arrive in Valladolid, check in, explore the area and go for a wine tasting before dinner.
Leave towards Ribera de Duero area where you will spend most of the day in Peñafiel seeing family owned wineries, the fabulous castle, and one of the oldest plaza mayor, an artisanal cheese maker. Enjoy tasting the suckling lamb. Continue onto Peñaranda hill town to spend the night in a charming inn.
Leave in the morning to explore Aranda, see how the wine barrels are roasted, explore 13th century wine cellar caves and walk around the town. Return to Madrid.
