Accommodation

Laperegina

You can be accommodated in double rooms, or triple rooms, all with bathrooms. One of the rooms is very special; it is build in a tree and has a beautiful story to it, click here to read it. The rooms are furnished in a rustic style, simple, and practical. There are many activities that can be done on the farm: watching the animals, playing ping pong, taking cooking and painting courses, archery, using a telescope, participating in the preparation of soap and dye, and many more things. Laperegina also offers guests the possibility to canoe on one of the cleanest rivers in Italy, and flights over the three parks of the Abruzzo region.

Marino is able to give you advice on the most beautiful routes of the region. In collaboration with nearby farms, Laperegina makes it possible for guests to visit an equestrian centre, ride bicycles, visit an airport for small aeroplanes, and even play tennis. Laperegina has plenty of guest carparking and offers hospitality in the seasons of Spring, Summer and Autumn. Laperegina is an organic tourist farm situated in the green center of the three Abruzzi national parks. The main building is an old shepherds house with a stable, which has been restored. The main activity is bee keeping, and the surrounding area is occupied by various farm animals, such as pigs, sheep and poultry.

The gardens are used mainly for the cultivation of vegetables, and include a small area for the cultivation of medicinal herbs. The orchard has an abundance of cherries, prunes, apples, figs, and walnuts used in the making of their own jams and liquors. You will be warmly welcomed with genuine hospitality and friendliness. You are free to explore every part of the farm. The meals are shared together with the hosts.

Program

Traditional home cooking will highlight the rural traditions and the richness of the gastronomy of the region: bread and homemade pasta, pizza, barbecued steak, and dressed pork products. Special dishes created by Marino and Elide as Ngiulina, Iolanda, ChrisCake and so on. Being Marino wine and oil taster, all meals are accompanied by wines personally selected by him. You are invited to be involved in the preparation of jams, sauces and liquors, from mulberries, blackberries, currants, quince, sour cherries, grapes, rose hip, walnuts, ratafia and more. Pork is cured on site in the preparation of ham (prosciutto), salami, bacon and sausages.

Day 1, Saturday - Arrival, welcome dinner

  • Arrival transfer from Pescara train station at 15:00.
  • On the way to Laperegina, the guide will describe and appreciate the scenery of Apennine Mountains.
  • Once arrived to Laperegina, a welcome drink is offered with a short presentation of the place where you will be.
  • Welcome dinner, discussion of the activities of the week, and watching photos about them.

Day 2, Sunday - Olive oil mill visit and tasting, cooking class

  • After having breakfast, see and shopping at a road market, followed by visit to family's olive oil mill with olive oil tasting.
  • Back to Laperegina for a light lunch and rest.
  • First cooking class at 15:00: appetizers (antipasti) and main courses (primi piatti).
  • Dinner.

Day 3, Monday - Excursion, cooking class

  • After breakfast, half-day excursion with visit to peculiar trabocchi on the coast of Adriatic sea, historical Canadian Cemetery and marvelous San Giovanni in Venere Church.
  • Fish lunch.
  • Back to Laperegina for a short rest.
  • Second cooking class at 16:00: second courses (secondi piatti) and side dishes (contorni).
  • Dinner.

Day 4, Tuesday - Excursion

  • After breakfast, go on a day excursion.
  • Visit to San Clemente Romanesque Church, Sulmona medieval town, and factory of confetti.
  • Picnic lunch at San Domenico Lake.
  • After lunch, visit the old town of Scanno, known for goldsmith art crafts.
  • Back to Laperegina, rest, and have dinner.

Day 5, Wednesday - Winery and dairy visit, cooking class

  • After breakfast, visit to a winery and a dairy farm.
  • Have lunch at a typical restaurant.
  • Back to Laperegina and rest.
  • Third cooking class at 15:30: pizza and bread.
  • Dinner.

Day 6, Thursday - Excursion, farm visit

  • After breakfast, go on a day excursion.
  • Visit a restored old town of Castel del Monte, followed by amazing Campo Imperatore.
  • Special lunch.
  • Afternoon visit to Santo Stefano di Sessanio, Bominaco, and saffron farm.
  • Back to Laperegina and rest.
  • Dinner.

Day 7, Friday - Departure

  • After breakfast, bid farewells.
  • Return transfer to airport or train station.

Location

Abruzzo is a largely undiscovered area which has remained unspoiled. Within this natural environment one finds small villages and old towns, rich in history, culture, tradition and handcraft. It's beauty offers endless opportunities for walking and touring, which has been preserved thanks to the presence of the three national parks and more than thirty natural reserves.

Things to do (optional)

  • At Laperegina there are many corners where one can rest, meditate, read a good book, or participate in one of the many activities on the farm.
  • A picnic near the Lavino spring, which is well-known for it's sulfurus water, the S. Antonio woods or the Pescara spring.
  • Canoeing on Tirino, one of the most pristine rivers in Italy.
  • In collaboration with other near firms we offer mountain bike, horseback riding, and fishing.
  • Within easy reach of Laperegina, many excursions are possible. Marino can provide his guests is to help them plan their excursions into the three parks of Abruzzo.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flights to arrive at Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Transfer from airport to Laperegina will be at around 3 p.m. and to from Laperegina to the airport after breakfast on departure day.

Arrival by train

Please arrive at Pescara train station. Transfer from and to the train station is included. The organizer will pick you up from the train station.
