If you ever find yourself in southern Italy please don't miss spending at least a day with this kind hearted Italian family! (and Greg!) Trust me you won't be disappointed. You will have a wonderful genuine Italian family experience on their beautiful olive farm property. I don't want to spoil the surprises but believe me you will eat, (Marissa's superb cooking) drink and laugh until your hearts content. You may even get a lesson on how to build a pizza oven (if you were as lucky as me!!) And you may even leave with presents, as if the new friendships you make aren't gift enough. 5 stars in my book!!

We became friends instantly and left feeling like a part of this warm and loving family! I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience at La Lucana. The memories we made the day we spent with them on their inviting farm will be cherished. Silvia and Greg and the whole family were such fun loving and gracious hosts and the beauty of the olive farm property speaks for itself. We will visit them again and stay!

Staying at La Lucana while in Italy made my vacation much richer. The family was so warm and the food was incredible! The view from the terrace outside our room was just stunning. Greg, Sylvia, Marisa, Franco and Pietro were such gracious hosts, meeting our every need and adjusting the schedule to allow for the things we wanted to see or experience. Because we stayed with a local family, we were given a tour of Italy "off the beaten path". I can't imagine visiting Italy any other way!

It's been nearly 2 months since I returned from a week long adventure with my girlfriends at La Lucana. Despite the passage of time, I'm still at a loss to find the right adjectives to describe our unforgettable visit!! La Lucana is a “hidden gem” tucked away in Southern Italy ... I'm writing this post to share my experience so that more people can discover this wonderful place located in Matera, Italy!

From the moment we arrived, our La Lucana family made us feel so welcome & they always went above & beyond” to make our time together exceptional. For our planned excursions, they seamlessly integrated themselves into our group to serve as chauffeurs, tour guides and translators. They willingly shared insight into Italian traditions and provided us with unique “hands on experiences” such as making homemade pasta & harvesting olives from their grove.

As a group, we honestly looked forward to every meal! Believe me, the food is spectacular … and there is A LOT of it! As the family served each meal, we could actually taste the love they infused into each dish & the warmth of their love literally transformed each meal into an experience that was both extraordinary & unforgettable.

Bottom line … if your ultimate dream vacation is to “disconnect & discover”, then I strongly encourage you to visit La Lucana - I promise you will have a unique "once-in-a-lifetime” experience & when it's over, you will leave with a full heart and an even fuller stomach!

The La Lucana life is like no other. The magic of Matera, the delicious cuisine, and the warmth of the local people will steal your heart. The La Lucana staff provided our accommodations, transportation and helped with our itinerary. Every experience felt personalized. Plus the fact that they speak the language and know all the must sees in the region made our experience one of ease. I have traveled all throughout Italy and Europe, but this experience I felt I was really "there". Thank you, La Lucana, for giving us a trip that changed us. You are in our hearts.
