Have a great cooking vacation in Abruzzo, Italy! With the great landscapes, the great wines (Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and the Trebbiano d'Abruzzo) and the good food, enjoy the kitchen from La Cucina Povera and meet the friendly locals. We make traditional Italian food with local products, over a glass of wine.
Casa Barbara, is located in the unspoiled Abruzzo, central / southern Italy, just 2 kilometers from the beautiful shores of the Adriatic Sea and 30 minutes from Pescara Airport. The house has 5 bedrooms, two kitchens, two bathrooms and a huge garden. The rooms are for one, two or four people, whichever you prefer. All with own bathroom and wifi. In the garden is a pond, apple and pear trees, 120 olive trees, persimmon trees and various nut trees. Casa Barbara also serves as a bed and breakfast.
On the Saturday of arrival, you all come together to the terrace and enjoy the antipasti, wine and the view of the sea and nature. In the evening you return to your pleasant accommodation. From Sunday morning, breakfast is served daily.
You have plenty of free time every day to get to know the beautiful, untouched Abruzzo, to cycle, to visit the beach or to walk for hours. On Thursday morning the fifth and final workshop will take place (lunch). Thursday afternoon and Friday are free to spend.
After breakfast everyone can do what he/she likes or you can go to the wonderful beach of Pineto (2 kilometers) or do some shopping with your host. Around 17:30 everyone is expected to be back home. While enjoying a (local) wine, you cook together with local products. There is something for everyone: from fish and meat to vegetarian, gluten-free, and others.
There are two organized trips (inclusive). On Monday morning you go to the market in the medieval art village Atri. After the market visit you can walk in the WWF park of the porcupines. In addition, you visit the local olive grove or visit a village together, hiking in the high mountains.
Abruzzo, in the middle of Italy. The Abruzzi has not yet been discovered by foreign tourists, but the Italians themselves come from all over the country to enjoy mountains and sea here. You can walk for hours in the Gran Sasso "Little Tibet" and the Majella nature park and enjoy the beautiful coast of the Adriatic Sea (at a walking distance of about 20 minutes). You can also rent bicycles from La Cucina or take a bike ride with Eddy. This is suitable for the advanced cyclist but also for the e-bike riders. And, Roma is only 2 hours away! At 7 kilometers from the house you can walk beautifully in the nature reserve of the Calanchi (WWF area).
All meals and wines are included in the package. The food is biologic from farmers in Abruzzo and fish right from the boats (2 kilometers from the house). The herbs are fresh from your host's garden. Barbara prefers to cook “la cucina povera,” like her nonna did. It is also possible to cook vegetarian.
