Join us for a unique experience to the discovery of the extraordinary Piedmont, in a charming location in the heart of the Langhe. The white truffle from Alba will be the protagonist of the activities you can experience during your stay at Cascina Massapè, a historical manor where to enjoy in-depth courses on wine and local cuisine through visits to wineries, tastings, and truffle hunting. Jo-In will be happy to welcome you at Cascina Massapè for your stay in the Langhe on the occasion of the 86th International Alba White Truffle Fair and the 2016 edition of Terra Madre Salone del Gusto.
Cascina Massapè is an eighth-century building far away from any others and almost at the top of the hill, overlooking Valle Belbo: It was founded as a monastery and later it became the residence of the Balbi family who owned the land in the area. It has recently been turned into a pleasant refreshment place to allow you to discover the charm of the land and its incomparable products. There are two mini-apartments and three spacious bedrooms at Cascina Massapè: You can enjoy a stunning infinity pool outside the building where you will also find a large garden, open-air spaces with games for children, a farmhouse with animals and a private car park for the guests.
Welcome tasting: After hotel accommodation you will be introduced to the territory, its history and local vineyards where the grapes for the most prestigious Piedmont wines are grown. Tasting and curiosities will be accompanied by seasonal gourmet specialties from Piedmont based on locally-sourced produce, only.
Rendezvous at a winery in Monforte D’Alba, the real core of Barolo production, where this precious “red wine” is produced. It is undoubtedly the most important and well known DOCG (Controlled and Guaranteed Denomination of Origin) wine of the Italian enology scene. We will lead you through the vineyards and introduce you to the historic winery where you can taste wines and have a light lunch. Bring a pair of comfortable shoes and a camera with you.
In-depth workshop on the White Truffle from Alba: the experts from the National Study Center on Truffles will share information, curiosities and secrets of this rare and charming produce with you, starting from its flavour, which is its main feature!
In the surroundings of the manor house... After learning about Truffles, you are now ready for truffle hunting, with a real expert, a “trifolao”. An adventure in the woods surrounding the manor to experience and understand the unique link between the local people and their heritage, how to find it and who does it.
Before leaving, take the chance to find out about Barolo’s ancient Castle and visit the Wine Museum located inside the castle, (WiMu). The area is full of events related to local culture and products throughout the International Alba White Truffle Fair.
Cascina Massapè is at the heart of the Langhe, an extraordinary region where its landscape full of hills and vineyards has been recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage. The rolling hills of Langhe preserve historic villages, castles, churches and art sites. A territory to visit and especially to taste: this is the land of great wines such as Barolo and Barbaresco but also a land of a magnificent gastronomy where you can find typical cheese products, a lot of specialties and handsome traditional recipes.
Piedmont's local cuisine is one of the best and most celebrated over Italy. During this holiday, you will enjoy daily breakfast, a light lunch, and a dinner. The perfect matching for the food served, will be a bottle of Barolo or Barbaresco.
Jo-In Staff is available at Cascina Massapè to help you plan activities and enjoy you free time. You can visit a hazel grove and join a cookery workshop on how to make a hazel pie, visit a small local dairy, visit an ancient Grappa distillery, join a cooking class, or plan a guided visit of old towns, such as Alba, Turin, and much more.
