Testimonials

  • Review by Monica J. from Massachusetts, USA

"Beautiful property with plenty to do or ample room to relax. We rented bikes (just 10 USD for half day), and rode all over island. The bike trails go thru the woods and along seashore. We relaxed on private beach where nice attendant set up chairs and umbrella and brought us frozen drinks. Then enjoyed giant pool and dinner at award winning restaurant on the property. Great trip!"

"We go for dinner each year at the grand dining room of the JIH each year for the past 15 years. The service staff is always excellent, professionally trained and eager to please. We go for the sunset dinner which provides one of three entrees for USD 26.95 which includes soup, or salad. Other menu items run to about USD 40, plus appetizers, soup, and or salad. The rolls / breads are locally baked and high quality. I've never had a bad meal in the grand dining room and this nights entrees for eight were very tasty and well presented. Great meals, served in a historic setting by staff who work hard to see that you are pleased with their efforts. I enjoy returning again and again."

"Its a wonderful old hotel in the grand tradition! There are beautiful expansive grounds and buildings overlooking river; very pleasant staff from valets to front desk to restaurant staff. Tall vases of red roses grace elegantly furnished public rooms. I could spend all my time in the lovely lobby bar. Shuttle is available to take you to golf course and beach. We stayed in Annex with nicely refurbished and updated rooms with touches of shabby chic. No plastic wood furniture here. Old fashioned styled rooms but bathrooms modern."

  • Review by HallsboroSmokey from North Carolina, US

"We spent Christmas Eve, Christmas and the day after at this old world lovely hotel. Their restaurant is superb. My only complaint was that our three rooms were small and cramped and will remember to ask for larger rooms on our next visit and yes, there will be a next visit. Its fantastic good fun with the family. "

"We stayed at this lovely hotel just after Christmas. The grounds had an extensive display of lights that we enjoyed. The Club is a welcoming place and there is an atmosphere of a by-gone era. We had drinks on a veranda with its white rocking chairs. Our room was a normal size and was comfortable. We had dinner in its casual restaurant which used to be a cottage of one of the original owners. Breakfast was in the main dining room which featured a nice buffet. We were pleased with everything and will definitely return.""I took my wife here to give her a change of scenery, she's a wonderful wife, a hard worker and the most wonderful and creative mom who makes our house a home. The JI club hotel is a wonderful to step into yesteryear and walk in the footsteps of the opulent icons who built these amazing grounds. The property, architecture and its beauty is like a fairy tale. Just to walk the grounds is a wonderful escape from whatever worries you've left the other side of the bridge. While this is an undisputable 5-star property, you wont break the bank to stay here; all-in-all, it is reasonable and I've spent nearly as much in some Hampton Inns. The rooms are spacious, beautifully appointed, the beds and linens are terrific. The workmanship that went into these buildings can't be described in this review - the attention to detail by expert craftsmen runs abound. The grounds are gorgeous, you can't stop taking photos of the postcard scenery. Pamper yourself, and stay here. You won't be disappointed and the experience will make you feel like JP Morgan for the weekend. Awesome and an 8th wonder of the world."
