Location

Isola del Giglio (Giglio Island) is an Italian island and comune situated in the Tyrrhenian Sea, off the coast of Tuscany, and is part of the Province of Grosseto. The island is one of seven that form the Tuscan Archipelago, lying within the Arcipelago Toscano National Park.

Giglio means "lily" in Italian, and though the name would appear consistent with the insignia of Medici Florence, it derives from Aegilium, "Goat Island", a Latin transliteration of the Greek word for "little goat".

The island is surrounded by crystalline waters with intense blue-emerald shades and a rich, lively seabed. 90% of its land is covered by wild Mediterranean vegetation (with about 700 botanical species), and can be explored by trekking along footpaths.

From flat sandy stretches to dramatic cliffs, the beaches offer breathtaking backdrops and beautiful views of the horizon. Scuba divers can delight themselves by admiring a variety of fish, caves, and ancient wrecks. During summer and spring, when the sea is calm, you might be lucky enough to spot some whales and dolphins from your boat!
