Enjoy an Italian cookery tour in Abruzzo, central Italy! You will be able to develop your cooking skills with a small group of people, expand your wine knowledge and discover the regions off-the-beaten-track secrets. You will have the chance to take light and easy walks along the amazing Abruzzos mountains, ancient hermitages and coastline between national parks and unique Trabocchi fishing houses. The breathtaking views, the comfortable rooms, and delicious traditional food will make this a holiday to remember.

Afternoon - Italia Sweet Italia will pick you up from Leonardo da Vinci - Fiumicino Airport (FCO) at 14:30 and you will transfer to the ancient Roman town of Vasto on the Adriatic Coast. After checking in at the charming Hotel San Marco in the historical downtown, you will get to know your guide, learn more about the 7-day Italian cookery holiday, and enjoy a welcome dinner at a traditional restaurant in the heart of Vasto.
Morning - After a traditional breakfast of freshly baked bread, whole fruit country-style preserves, cake, pastries, coffee, tea, and freshly squeezed juice, you will learn how easy it is to make fresh pasta in a cooking class with Mamma. She will also give you an introduction to her favorite seasonal sauces.
Afternoon - Lunch will consist of the dishes that you prepared in the morning. Afterwards you will explore Loggia Amblingh, a promenade overlooking the fascinating crescent-shaped coastline, the old town with its medieval castle, charming lanes, a tower, the cathedral and Piazza Rossetti. Before dinner you will meet some local artisans.
Morning - After breakfast you will drive to the marvelous Abruzzos mountains and national parks to take a light and scenic walk, visit solitary and remote hermitages set in the rocky mountainside, and to admire unique landscapes.
Afternoon - You will enjoy a traditional picnic with local products and then a delicious dinner in a traditional restaurant in Vasto.
Morning - After breakfast you will drive to the coastline to take a walk in a marine reserve and discover the landmarks of the area, the Trabocchi. You will have a special fish lunch on a trabocco, Rinaldo will show you how to fish from it and will tell you the history and secrets behind Abruzzos unique fishing platforms.
Afternoon - Free afternoon for your own activities. You can go to one of the many beaches, bike, take part to some extra activities or excursions or simply relax. Dinner at your leisure.
Morning - After breakfast you will make your way to the farm where Pina and Dino will reveal the secrets of sheep farming and guide those that would like to learn how to milk a sheep. After a snack of cheese, you will learn how to prepare ricotta cheese in their creamery. A delicious traditional lunch will be prepared and served. This will be the time to savor just made warm ricotta cheese.
Afternoon - You will explore the enchanting Abruzzos castle in the sky in Roccascalegna. Dinner will take place in Vasto.
Morning - Following breakfast, you will visit the La Selvotta Olive Grove that has been farmed by Giovannis family for 3 generations to produce DOP olive oils. He will unfurl the secrets of what Homer described as liquid gold and you will finish with an olive oil tasting. Afterwards you will visit Fontefico, an award winning winery that sits between a marine park and the mountains. You will have a wine tasting with pairings from local cheeses and salami. The owners, Emanuele and Nicola, will offer a tour of the vineyard and cellars.
Afternoon - After lunch you will have a homemade pizza cooking class and you will also learn how to cook traditional bruschetta and tiramisu.
Morning - Departure after breakfast.
You will visit Ambruzzos mountains, castle, cathedral, national parks, monuments and coastline, as well as an artisan farm, an olive grove, a winery and Loggia Amblingh.
Abruzzo is just a short drive from Rome and is considered the greenest region in Europe with three national parks and many protected areas and species. It has a very diverse gastronomic heritage that includes wine, pasta alla chitarra, olive oil, cheeses, salami, truffles, saffron, and fish soups. Abruzzo also offers a wide variety of landscapes and seascapes that will take your breath away.

Locally caught fish is an important part of the cuisine in Abruzzo. You will learn about traditional fishing and how to incorporate your catch into a range of tasty dishes. You will have the chance to sample ricotta and pecorino cheese from the region as well as traditional meals, olive oil and wines. Every meal is prepared with great care and attention at local restaurants that will fill your heart and stomach. An example menu includes bruschette with meat sauce, pasta alla chitarra with meat sauce and polpette, cavatelli with vegetables and tarallucci.
You will have ample time to explore the surroundings, immerse in the Italian culture and participate in multiple activities such as biking, hiking, fishing, truffle hunting, wine and cheese tasting, olive harvesting and olive oil tasting, as well as visiting the beautiful nearby beaches, cooking and swimming.
You need to arrive at Leonardo da Vinci - Fiumicino Airport (FCO) on June 5, 2016. Italia Sweet Italia will pick you up from the airport. The pick-up is included in the price.
You can travel by bus to Pescara or Vasto. The bus journey from Rome to Pescara takes between 2 to 3 hours, depending on the bus you catch and one hour more to get to Vasto.
You can travel by train to Pescara or Vasto. The train journey from Rome takes around 4 hours to Pescara and around 5 hours to Vasto.
