"My wife and I decided we wanted to go to Italy for our 27th wedding anniversary but due to business constraints, we could only commit about 8 days. Because of our time constraint and after researching online, we decided on doing the Italia Sweet Italia culinary tour, instead of the typical larger or more popular cities and attractions. After looking up the trip and itinerary online, we were very excited, and what made the trip equally special was that my grandmother was born in the Abruzzo region. The Abruzzo region is beautiful and its people are very friendly. Fabrizio is the owner and host of the tour and to say he is very proud of his area as well as going out of his way to make you feel comfortable and special is a great understatement. Fabrizio, his family, and his friends are wonderful people making our tour so much fun and culturally rich that we were sad to leave this area and its special people. My wife and I were the only ones on the tour in late October so Fabrizio was our personal guide for the week. Each day he had something planned that was interesting and had the local interest in mind. We toured Vasto and its surrounding areas, dined on great local foods and wines, learned local culture and history, harvested olives, visited a medieval castle, toured the Trabocchi fishing platforms, visited and ate with a local farmer, and had cooking classes with AnnaMarie and Concetta, who in my opinion are the two best cooks in Vasto!! Also, Angelo's homemade wine and lemoncello is excellent. Fabrizio and friends surprised us on our actual anniversary day with a special Abruzzo cake and candles. Thanks Fabrizio for a great vacation! One one my favorite things was trading our cultural stories and ideas. I brought back to the USA "kill the coffee" where we would have have a liquor with Fabrizio after coffee, finishing off the meal. We hope to return again someday and reunite with Fabrizio and friends as well as see the area where my grandmother was born and lived for several years before immigrating to the USA. "Chow" for now Fabrizio and friends!"

"Several members of my family were treated to a 5 day tour of Vasto and Civitella Del Toronto in search of culinary secrets and to view the hometown of my father and grandparents. Fabrizio, the owner and our guide diligently researched and put together an agenda that exceeded our every expectation. Having just completed a commercial tour of 9 days Fabrizio was asked to have us slow down so we could immerse ourselves the the rich Italian culture and learn about our heritage. The tour started in and around his hometown of Vasto where we learned the art of making pasta and a desert from his delightful mother and sister in law. For three days each meal was carefully planned as were the tours of local historical buildings, a small but tasty winery, an olive oil business, a trabocco, (a traditional fishing technique) and an exceptional Gelateria. At each stop we were treated like royalty. No detail was missed. After A few days we were off to Civitella Del Tronto where our ancestors roamed. Stops at various municipal offices secured birth and marriage certificates and cemetery visits respected our past. The countryside was post card like causing us to wonder why did our sheep herding grandparents left for America. After gourmet eating and drinking our way through Abruzzo we came to the end of our trip. One more dinner. This time we were served the surprise of our lifetime. With little family background data go on Fabrizio tenaciously arranged to have a total of 16 relatives, previously unknown, greet us at the restaurant where we shared pizza and stories in translated Italian (and hand gestures) that carried us well into the night. A perfect ending to an unbelievable trip. Once again Fabrizio left no detail undone. Thanks to Fabrizio and Facebook we now have new relatives and thanks to Google Translate we can share experiences for years to come. Bravo Fabrizio. "

"Truly there are not words adequate enough to express the beauty that is Abruzzo - both the place and the people - or to thank Fabrizio and his family. I recently had the joy of participating in the walking and cooking tour 6/2015. I was especially eager for this trip as my grandparents had been born in and emigrated to the USA from Vasto. Vasto was so much larger and infinitely more beautiful than I ever could have imagined it. Fabrizio did an ancestor search and I was so thankful to see the church they were married in, the street my grandmother lived on, and records going back to great-great grandparents, etc. In this, as in everything Fabrizio does, it was a gift to me to share his love of this area, its history, and family. Speaking of family and friends, when you go on a cooking tour with Italia Sweet Italia, you become family. They all generously opened their homes, their businesses and their hearts to us all. We learned some wonderful cooking techniques including homemade pasta that I have already impressed my family with, as well as visits to local winery, olive oil, farm to table, and lunch on a trabocchi. Plus hiking along the spectacular coast and into the beautiful green Miella/Apennine mountain, visiting ancient hermitages, swimming in the blue-green Adriatic, visiting shops and dinners at local wonderful restaurants, and learning about Vasto and its history. Always, Fabrizio facilitated our communication with the local (warm and wonderful) people. My friend and I commented that during our week in Italy before the tour (rome, florence, cinque terre) that we were really only able to have conversations with other English speaking tourists - not so on an Italia Sweet Italia tour. Finally, anyone looking for a beautiful vacation destination and the chance for an authentic travel experience should book a tour with Italia Sweet Italia as soon as possible! I thank from the bottom of my heart Fabrizio, his sweet and lovely family, his friends and everyone I encountered on this trip for making this truly a vacation of a lifetime!"

"We have just got back from the cooking, wine and truffle tour and we can not thank Fabrizio enough for such a wonderful holiday, he was very attentive and very knowledgeable about his beloved Vasto. We had such great experiences which I can truly say were magical, even fireflies in the evening at the truffle home. The cooking was easy and fun and we met such wonderful people for a truly homely experience, just like you were visiting friends and family. Of course, the food was out of this world, wonderful pastas and plenty of seafood. To all lovers of great food, wine, and culture, we would highly recommend this tour and hope very much to return in the future."

"I've been to Italy on a few occasions, but this trip was entirely different - it was based in a far less touristy area, which was great because it felt like you were able to experience true Italian culture. Our host, Fabrizio, is clearly passionate about his home town, and he has gone to great lengths to ensure that the tour visits a variety of locations and attractions. Our visits to small farms and businesses allowed us to see "traditional Italian" and it was very rewarding to feel that we were supporting the traditions. The great thing about Italy is the focus on family, and this trip was no exception. From the moment we arrived, we felt like we were part of Fabrizio's family. The trip gave me the opportunity to experience a different side of Italy, and I can highly recommend it; I think it would be most suited to attend as a couple. "

"We have just returned from a six night holiday in Abruzzo and we both agree it was one of the best holidays we have had in Italy! Fabrizio goes out of his way to make sure that you get the best possible holiday and his enthusiasm and passion for Abruzzo is catching. We were constantly made to feel that we were part of the family and we got to experience the full warmth and friendliness of the area. We were met at the airport in Rome and taken on the 3 hour trip to Abruzzo. Each night we ate in a different restaurant in Vasto and none disappointed. We visited a farm where we had the opportunity to milk a cow and got to turn the milk to cheese and watched them make ricotta. We joined in an olive harvest and saw the whole process of turning the freshly picked olives into first pressed extra virgin olive oil. The flavours are amazing - and we got to bring back a bottle each of the oil for ourselves. We have been to Italy many times and each holiday has had parts which were exceptional but it seemed to us that this holidays put all of those pieces together into one. There was nothing which we did not like about this holiday! You could not possibly wish for better hosts or to be made to feel like you were spending time with family. We have already decided that we will go back for another holiday in a year or so's time! Our group was small enough to ensure we all got the best experience possible and we comprised of, 2 of us from the UK, 2 from South Africa, 2 from Kansas, USA, and 1 from Australia - what a mix! We were sad to leave and our time spent there will always feel special!"

"A group of 7 people recently had the pleasure of experiencing a full day of tours in the Vasto area with Fabrizio at Italia Sweet Italia. I think it was the best day of our 10 days in Italy. Fabrizio was patient, interesting and fun and helped us thoroughly enjoy our 3 tour destinations that day of a Trabocchi, Agriturismo Farm and the Castle at Roccoscalegna. His English translations were very good and he was kind, respectful and very professional. Abruzzi turned out to be a refreshing change from other "tired" tourist spots in Italy and we loved the aestheticism and enthusiasm of all our hosts during the tour. 5 stars for Italia Sweet Italia!"

"Our 10 day cultural tour of the Abrazzo region was based in the ancient city of Vasto on the beautiful Adriatic Sea east of Rome and just south of Tuscany. The area is bordered by mountains on the west and blanketed by olive groves and vineyards. We made square pasta with a "guitar," milked a cow then made ricotta with the fresh milk, visited pasta and olive oil factories, went on a truffle hunt and saw ceramics and filigree jewelry made by hand. We made traditional recipes with local families, and ate at wonderful local restaurants. Then area is rich in cultural history and not crowded with tourists. One of the most delightful trips I have ever taken."

"When you are finished with the wonders of Rome, Florence, Venice and Amalfi and you want a taste of real Italian culture then Italia Sweet Italia is your destination. I recently travelled with two separate groups of friends to Abruzzo. Although we were unable to do the whole week with Fabrizio and his team they put together two separate and different wonderful days for us.With group one, we made two types of pasta, two sauces, and tiramisu. We enjoyed all of the above outside on the patio amidst olive trees and vegetable gardens. Concetta, Sophia and Fabrizio's Mother, Anna Maria were wonderful hostesses and instructors. We also travelled to old Vasto where Antonio gave us an incredible tour of the town. We were picked up and dropped off by Lorus. With group two we travelled first to a traditional trabocco where Rinaldo gave us a very interesting lesson on this ancient fishing tradition. From there we travelled to an Agriturismo farm where we milked cows, made cheese and saw how wine was made the old way. We enjoyed the most incredible meal prepared by the chefs in the restaurant at the farm. After the farm we had a private tour with a local volunteer guide of Roccascalegna Castle. The entire day was fabulous. Both groups would rate the days with Italia Sweet Italia at the top of their list. Fabrizio keeps the tours authentic by letting the local people tell their story (he translates), keeping the groups small and intimate and by engaging himself personally with everyone in the group. In the end, you feel like you have made friends in Abruzzo.I highly recommend Italia Sweet Italia to anyone. If you can do the week with Fabrizio it would be optimal but they will custom fit even a day or two to your needs and abilities. Many thanks from Canada to Fabrizio and his great team in Abruzzo. We had an amazing time with all of you. Can't wait to try the recipes at home. "

"Fabrizzio could not have been a better host and guide for this week's introduction to the beautiful area around Vasto, to its people, its food and its attractions. Everything was very well organised but relaxed with time to interact with the locals and within the group, to laugh, and we did a lot of that, to talk, to explore, to cook, eat and sample the local wines. I cannot reccomend a week in Vasto with Italia sweet Italia highly enough."

"Together with a small group of like-minded travelers we spent about ten days in Vasto with a range of activities arranged by Fabrizio from Italia Sweet Italia. We cooked, painted, made pottery, visited restaurants, artists studios, a winery, an olive farm, a cheese factory, a bell foundry, a nature reserve, beaches, bars, shops and generally immersed ourselves in the culture of Abruzzo. We met so many charming people and ate some memorable meals using the typical fresh products of the area. The wine was good too, and plentiful! I can thoroughly recommend this type of holiday if you like really getting to know an area, its people and its culture."

"What can I say that others have not already said in great detail? If you want the best Italian tour ever, choose the Abruzzo bespoke tour. Fabrizio, the tour guide, is an amazing, professional, knowledgeable person who goes out of his way to make every day a magical experience. If you want to experience the Italian culture in a very personal way and be entertained in local homes whilst learning how to make your own pasta, ricotta cheeses, vegetable soups and ragus, or preparing truffle or seafood delights then this is a tour that is above and beyond the rest. The mountain / coastal setting is superb with many historical and medieval sites to be explored. I would do it all again in a heartbeat."

"I'm a mature traveler and have been around the world on my own for the last 45 years doing my own thing. I had a horror of joining a guided tour with 40 or so other people where you are just a number. But this small intimate tour was fantastic and beyond my expectations. There was so much exposure to local people who have a passion for their area of interest, be it cooking, pottery, painting, or jewelry making. I don't know of any tour where the guide would invite you into the home of his family, friends and acquaintances, people he had sought out in order to make the experience so personalized, full of warmth and informative. All of these delightful people added to the breathtaking scenery of the mountains, the quaint medieval villages, and their artisanal pursuits, the Adriatic coast and the fabulous dining experiences of the local food and wine traditions. I cannot recommend this small, intimate travel company enough."

"I was looking for a small group tour where I would have the luxury and safety net of a local person who lived in and knew the area, spoke the language, and would guide me to the areas I wanted to see. Italia Sweet Italia worked out perfectly for me. It included all of the things I like to do - some hiking, some castles, some crafts, time on a trabocco, and lots of delicious Italian food. I love Italian food and I like to cook, but I did not want to spend my precious time in Italy in a kitchen, so two cooking classes were perfect. From the time that Fabrizio met us in Rome until we were delivered back there, we had a resource available to guide us and make sure that our travel was optimized. Some of the places we went were truly unforgettable. We lodged our first night at Sextantio Alberto Diffuso, a hotel spread among the buildings of a medieval hill town in the Gran Sasso e Monti Della Laga national park, in the highest region of the Apennines but equipped with luxurious accommodations. Imagine awakening to that view. We cooked fresh seafood from the Adriatic on a trabocco and I learned why Brodetto alla Vastese is the best. The tour provided great opportunities to really meet the people of Abruzzo, see beautiful geography, eat delicious food, and enjoy the company of the Italia Sweet Italia team and the other travelers in our group. I highly recommend it."

"Place yourself in the very competent hands of Fabrizio at "Italia Sweet Italia". In our case, we wanted to visit a less touristy area of Italy, interact with locals, take some cooking lessons, go to a wine and oil tasting, picnic on an Adriatic beach, eat in family-owned restaurants, and that is what we did! Experience a day on a trabocco but without the worry of knowing where to go and finding our way around. A few emails with Fabrizio, and our best trip ever to Italy, soon took shape. Fabrizio arranged it all, from our transfers to and from the airport, to our accommodations, to as many activities as we wished to do. Fabrizio made it all so effortless for us. He is friendly, professional, and extremely patient. He will spend as little or as much time with you as you want. He will deal with any problems that may creep up. His goal is to give you a worry-free, customized experience. And he succeeded brilliantly. We enjoyed Frabrizio, and loved everything he arranged. Spending time with his extended family was especially fun. We cannot think of anything or anyway that this trip could have been more wonderful. Thanks Fabrizio! So, go give Italia Sweet Italia a try. You'll be glad you did."
