The love of wine and the stories surrounding it are the driving factors behind this tour. You will experience tastings of top class wines from established winemakers as well as visits to what are considered to be the best new wineries in the region. During your visit to Spain, you will also dine in some of the best restaurants, ranging from small and traditional to international standard award-winning venues. The aim is to provide you with an experience which goes beyond just wine and food, to enable you to get a feel for the region and its culture and make this a tour you will never forget.
During your tour of Spain, you will be staying in the following hotels:
September is a wonderful time to a Spanish wine tour enjoy in the high altitude clarity of Old Castile, savouring the wonderful reds of Ribera del Duero, the vibrant whites of Rueda, via some magnificent castles, mountains and squares. Regional gastronomic specialities like Segovia’s suckling pig match the heavier reds of the region while Rioja and Navarra mark the transition to the north in style of wines and dishes, through patatas con chorizo, local peppers and tomatoes accompanied by more delicate reds and aged whites.
The Basque coast offers a stark and very visually striking contrast, txakoli white wine with local tuna and anchovies introducing us to the distinct gourmet feel of green Spain by the Cantabrian sea. Some of the world’s best ham is never far away and the mixture of ancient and modern architecture, winemaking and culture makes for a heady mix.
Spain has a diverse history as a crossroad from Europe to Africa. A range of empires have passed through the peninsula and the countrys wine history reflects the richness of its history and the diversity of its culture and geography. Ancient and modern ways sit side by side, creating a glorious canvas of wines and styles in regions that are remarkably little visited. If you are looking to get to know the real Spain, there is no better way than to explore the wine regions and revel in the unexpected treasures you will find.
Everywhere in Spain, lunch is a long, slow ritual. There is always wine on the table and nothing is ever rushed. The local ways and dishes are revered as being unequivocally the best wherever you go. Meals will focus mostly on Spanish traditional cuisine served in some of the highest rated venues. For example:
