The Garnì Astoria Hotel's new structure offers you a hospitality that portrays tradition and relaxation. It's the ideal environment to get away from the chaos of city life and to enjoy complete relaxation that harmonizes with nature. The Garnì Astoria Hotel has 12 bedrooms on two separate floors and is outfitted with all the necessary comforts. There are 8 double rooms (6 double deluxe rooms and 2 double standard rooms, the second one smaller than deluxe ones) and 4 suite rooms (for 4 persons).

The Hotel Astoria Garni Roccaraso is a four star boutique hotel owned and managed by the Pecorella family. Stafano Pecorella, an established engineer, planned and built the hotel in 2012, creating a unique mountain resort with attention to every detail. The design gives a feeling of warmth and coziness and a true sense of place in this beautiful destination in the mountains with amazing views. Each room is designed and decorated uniquely offering free Wi-Fi and Cable TV, spacious contemporary bathrooms with marble and stone.

You have complimentary and direct access to the SPA area from the bedroom through elevator access. The SPA offers a unique walk-in chromo therapy shower experience, hot tub, Turkish bath and the relaxing lounge has a fireplace. Therapeutic massages are available by appointment. The Clubhouse and dining room area features an inviting fireplace where daily buffet breakfasts are served.

Located within a 10-minute walk into the village, you’ll find shopping, restaurants pubs, and night life activity.


Each hands-on class will be held in a completely furnished 130 mq kitchen.

Day 1 (Sunday): Arrival - welcome drink - dinner with wine

The driver will pick you up at the airport and drive you to Roccaraso through the Abruzzo National Park, crossing beautiful forests and valleys. Upon arrival to the hotel, you will be warmly greeted before you settle into your room.

After you have checked into your room, enjoy some leisure time with a walk around the hotel or you may spend some time at the SPA with a Jacuzzi and Turkish bath or take an emotional shower. You may also just opt to relax in the lounge area in front of the fireplace.

In the evening you will meet with Chef Italo Acconcia and his team for a welcome drink and briefing of the program along with a special gift for your cooking seminar. Dinner in hotel will complete your first day of arrival. Dinner includes a starter that may consist of cured meats, ham, pecorino cheese, "bruschette" (garlic bread) with oil and truffle, ricotta and caciocavallo cheeses.

The first course pasta offerings are similar to "Cazzarielli" with beans (little Gnocchi made of water and flour), "Tagliatelle" with lamb meat ragout, "Tagliatelle" with truffle and Porcini mushrooms, "Sagne" (handmade pasta) with beans, Pasta "alla chitarra" with saffron, "Pappardelle" (Pasta handmade) with boar meat ragout, or "Polenta”.

The main courses are meat-based like grilled lamb meat, sausages, "Scamorza" cheese, "Pallotte cace e ove" (meatballs with cheese and eggs), "Arrosticini" (skewers of lamb meat). If you still have room for dessert, enjoy homemade specialties of "Cicerchiata" (little balls of puff pastry with honey), "Parrozzo" (Christmas desserts), "Pizzelle" (or "Ferratelle", biscuits with cinnamon), "Bocconotti" (biscuits with dark chocolate). Wine and bar beverages are included.

Day 2 (Monday) : Pasta making class - free evening

A rich and abundant buffet breakfast provides a great start to your day. In the dining room of the main hall enjoy a full country/continental breakfast buffet with a variety of options daily. Varieties of assorted cheeses, meats, breakfast breads, yogurt, seasonal fruits, fruit juices, luxurious handmade cakes, biscuits, cereals and scrambled eggs. Coffee, cappuccino, tea and tisane are among the beverage offerings.

After breakfast you will be driven to the cooking class at Fonte Eremita. The chef will lead you in learning the basics of pasta (cannelloni, chitarra), condiments (sugo, salsa, soup), and preparing a perfect scallopine with typical desserts. The program is perfect for those who love Italian cuisine and its basic elements. Lunch is included after the class featuring the fruits of your labors.

Tonight enjoy an evening at leisure in Roccaraso village. There is a complimentary shuttle from the hotel that runs from 6:30pm to 10:30pm.

Day 3 (Tuesday) : Guided tour of Sulmona - food tastings

After breakfast, there is a 15-minute transfer with your driver and tour guide to Sulmona, known as the Siena of the South. On this guided tour (depending on weather conditions) you will experience a visit to the cathedral, historical centre and piazza, where the famous medieval Palio festival takes place every summer. There will be ample free time for shopping and lunch on your own. Visit the famous Confetti factory, learning how the confetti’s are manufactured. You will enjoy sampling the different flavors of Confetti’s and taking your creation back home as a souvenir.

There will be free time back at the hotel prior to dinner. Day 4 (Wednesday) : Italian baking and food carving class - free evening

Enjoy your breakfast in the morning before having a hands-on cooking class.

Today you will learn how to prepare “Involtini” - small bite-sized bundles of food. Involtini consists of some sort of outer layer wrapped around a filing. Involtini can be made with a wrapper of meat, poultry, seafood or vegetables, with fillings like cheese, vegetables, cured meats and nuts. Discover the secrets of how to make a perfect “crostata,” an Italian baked tart or pie.

You will also learn the Chef’s specialty: food carving, making a beautiful rose, flower and faces carving fruits and vegetables! You will surprise your friends back home inviting them to a perfect “Cena Italiana” cooked by yourself with stunning food presentation. Lunch follows the cooking class.

Tonight is a free evening in the wonderful village of Pescocostanzo where you can explore the stunning historical beauties of this UNESCO heritage site.

Day 5 (Thursday) : Chef-guided market shopping - guided tour of Castel di Sangro

After breakfast, transfer to the village of Castel di Sangro with Chef Italo who will take you to shop in the local market choosing fresh produce, fruits and vegetables to be used in the afternoon cooking class. The tour will continue with visiting the Convent of Maddalena, with its WW II museum, a visit to the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta; a historical building in the center of the village with rich history and traditions. There will be free time for lunch and shopping in the village.

The cooking lesson will take place throughout the afternoon and you will eat and taste the antipasti of cold cuts and cheeses. For example, the chef will teach the first country dish like “mezzemaniche with raw broccoli”, pecorino and onion pancetta, “cazzarielli and beans with pork rind”, polenta and sausage; as a second course, baked leg of lamb.

The chef will also teach how to prepare side dishes with seasonal vegetables, and rustic potatoes. And finally, the chef will teach how to prepare typical sweets from Abruzzo, such as homemade specialties of "Cicerchiata" (little balls of puff pastry with honey), "Parrozzo" (Christmas desserts), "Pizzelle" (or "Ferratelle", biscuits with cinnamon), "Bocconotti" (biscuits with dark chocolate). The chef teach also to make carving bouquet. Wine and bar beverages are included.

Day 6 (Friday) : Tour to Raiano - Corfino - Vittorito - wine cellar - farewell dinner

After breakfast in the hotel, you will enjoy a tour as a path towards the discovery of nature, culture and local food and wine. Experience hilly landscapes with churches and abbeys. You will visit the Hermitage of San Venanzio, a mystic spot between rocks, springs and forests, followed with a visit to the most important cantina for a wine tasting and lunch.

Enjoy some leisure time this afternoon to enjoy a walk or to use the SPA to relax and pamper yourself before your farewell dinner (barbeque with typical local meat - salsicce, agnello, arrosticini) in the hotel with live music, a photo session and graduation certificate ceremony!

Day 7 (Saturday) : Departure

It is always difficult to say goodbye when you have had such a good time. So your host will just say “arrivederci all’anno prossimo” (see you next year). Remember: Italian cuisine is the best. Italians cook better!

Please plan to leave the hotel at 9am after breakfast and make any departure flights after 12 noon.

Roccaraso is a town in Central Italy, near L’Aquila in Abruzzo. It dates back to around 1000 AD and is located near the Rasinus stream, from which some believe it took its original name, Rasin Rocca. The village of Roccaraso is a famous ski tourist destination in Southern Italy and a popular trekking destination in the summer featuring its beautiful mountains, valleys and national parks. Roccaraso is one of the most famous locations to ski in Italy. The ski resort of Roccaraso is structured around the Mountains of Roccaraso, with the Piano Aremogna and Pizzalto, connected directly to the plants of Rivisondoli-Monte Pratello and the area of Alto Sangro.

Summer activities

In the resort "Ombrellone," a vast park will give the opportunity for visitors to try out four different adventure paths based on the level of difficulty or to dabble in one of the oldest sports, such as archery.

Recommended Airports

Driving directions from Sulmona

  • Garnì Astori is reachable from the north through the town of Sulmona, off of highway A24 - A25 Roma / Pescara.
  • Follow the state road SS17 for Roccaraso.
  • From Naples take A1 and exit at Caianello and proceed in the direction of Venafro / Pozzili, following (SS85) the indications for Montaquila.
  • Proceed for Colli al Volturno, Rionero Sannitico, Castel di Sangro until you reach Roccaraso.
  • Once having arrived at Roccaraso, take the county road Strada Comunale per Pietransieri in the direction of Pietransieri.
  • About 400 meters after Pietransieri, you'll find Garnì Astoria to your right.

Driving directions from Rome

  • A24 + A25 exit Pratola Peligna / Sulmona, SS 17.
  • Travel time 2 hours approximately.

Driving directions from Naples

  • A1 exit Caianiello, dir. S. 652, SS 17.
  • Journey time: about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
  • For those of you coming from Naples, soon a new itinerary, fast road between Isernia - Castel di Sangro, will allow you to arrive without having to go through Montaquila. This new itinerary will shorten the time and distance required.
