This retreat will take place Torsåker, Mid-Sweden where the landscape is rolling and open, surrounded by wooded hills. Torsåker is named after the Scandinavian god Thor, together with the old nordic word 'akr' or 'áker' meaning 'arable land', the typical translation for the name is 'Thor's field' and was originally used as the name of a farm.
Torsåker is situated between the two cities Gävle and Falun and already existed as a settlement at the time of the Vikings. Traditionally, Torsåker is a rich farming village gaining its wealth from the numerous iron mines in the area.
The landscape is rolling and open, surrounded by wooded hills. Your holiday home the 'Yellow House' is located just outside the village in the hamlet of Ho and lies at the edge of the forest. Once you step outside the door you can go walking or hike in the mossy, hide-and-seek forest, picking berries in summer and mushrooms in the winter.
The garden of the main house (10-minutes walk from the Yellow House) with its unique yoga studio, borders the Hoån; an idyllic small river that meanders through the friendly valley and opens onto the beautiful lake 'Ottnaren'.
You can rent canoes to discover the Hoån also known as the 'little Amazon' of Gästrikland and for a longer trip out onto the lake, where it is also great for fishing. Hofors golf course, at about a 15-minutes drive from Torsåker, is ranked as one of the ten most scenic courses in Sweden and has 18 holes.
In the winter there are plenty of possibilities for ice-skating on the frozen lakes and for skiing. Kungsberget is about a 40-minutes drive from us and it is the largest skiing resort in this region with 19 slopes and 10 lifts. Snow is guaranteed from November till April.
You will be served daily fruit, coffee, and tea in the morning. You will be served supper on the arrival day and will be preparing and eating scrumptious brunch and lunches on the remaining days.
Together you will prepare delicious and wholesome vegetarian food that is quick and easy to make. Dishes vary with each season; focussing more on salads and different grains in the summer and warming and hearty dishes in the winter. Products used are mostly organic.
The food is colorful, delicious, and healthy. As everyone has different digestive systems there isn't one diet that fits all. But you all will benefit from eating as much organically grown, fresh, and unprocessed foods as possible and this is what Hoo Yoga strives for.
Sweden has its own treasures; an abundance of wild berries, mushrooms, fish, and wild game. You get to pick blueberries, cranberries, gooseberries, red currants, raspberries, and they also freeze these precious little jewels so that these can be used all year round. They have apple trees, and get honey, from their own bees. A small variety of vegetables and herbs are also grown in the garden.
Lisan is a talented and creative cook and is known to inspire people in making healthier choices after their visit. Sit down to a dish of yogurt or oats with homemade granola and mixed berries from the garden or dig into breakfast dishes such as scrambled eggs with feta cheese and sun-dried tomato on gluten-free crackers or Jan's homemade bread.
For lunch or dinner you will served mouth-watering salads, tasty soups, and stews and the occasional piece of fish. Desserts include gluten-free Swedish kladdkaka (chocolate pie) or raw chia pudding with ice-cream that everybody loves.
Lisan will provide you with some great recipes that you can try at home. If you are allergic to certain ingredients they will do their best to meet your requirements. In case you have any specific dietary requirement or restriction, please let Hoo Yoga know at the time of booking.
