Walking tour to explore the hillside and villages above Bonassola.
Our route ascends narrow streets and pathways to the small settlement of Scernio before contouring above Bonassola on a wide track. There are open views, taking in the broad sweep of the bay, the town and the pretty chapel at Punta della Madonna below.
We will continue through Costella to reach the church of San Giorgio with its commanding views. A steeper section of path takes us to the village of San Giorgio for a well-earned rest.
Our path then leads through woods, where we may see signs of wild boar. The track crosses a stream and winds up to Montaretto, a magnificently-situated village and one of the first to be founded in the area. Its a great spot for lunch. We hear tales of the history of Bonassola and the surrounding communities before returning on a good mule track, an original supply route between the two villages.
The distance covered will be 4.5 miles (7.1 kilometers) with 1.400 feet (420 meters) of ascent and descent.

We continue through the lovely harbor village of Manarola to arrive at Corniglia station which is a busy, but justifiably popular area of the Cinque Terre with incredible sea views throughout. Those with energy might ascend the 377 steps up to Corniglia (the rest of us will take the local shuttle bus!) to explore Corniglia.
We continue along the coast path climbing, contouring and then descending to the charming village of Vernazza with its waterfront bars and colorful houses.

This holiday will take place in Bonassola, Ligurna, Italy. Bonassola is a quiet coastal resort with easy access to the enchanting Cinque Terre villages and the peaceful countryside further inland.
Bonassola lies just outside the national park and as such is quieter than its more famous neighbors, making it a pleasant base in the evenings. It has a very attractive beach only a few minutes from the hotel. The town is surrounded by hills and can only be accessed by train, or by using a narrow winding road.
The Cinque Terre or five lands is the name given to the stretch of coast between five unique coastal villages. Originally fishing villages and pirate hideaways, they are now one of the most popular tourist areas in Italy. The coastline is now designated as a National Park and the villages are recognized by UNESCO.
Our holidays at Hotel Delle Rose are on a half board basis and include breakfast and evening meal. Dinner is served in the light and airy dining room on the ground floor and the breakfast is served on the roof garden terrace with sea views. Hotel Delle Rose offers a self-service continental breakfast, including freshly baked croissants and Ligurian Focaccia from the local bakery.
The hotel provides a typical Italian three-course evening meal. A selection of local dishes and locally-caught fish form an important part of the menu. Each morning the manager likes to discuss any vegetarian or other dietary requirements with you personally. The pasta is homemade and the hotel offers pasta demonstrations once a week, a possible option on your free day.
Hotel Delle Rose serves drinks on the roof garden terrace in the serviced bar with sea views. The chef prepares daily Ligurian specialties to eat with your drinks. You can order a picnic lunch from the hotel. Alternatively, ingredients for a picnic lunch can be purchased from the local shops, either in Bonassola or one of the other villages. On certain days it may be possible to eat in a caf whilst out on the walks; your leaders will advise.

Your leader will also be checking for any local events going on nearby. Or you may like to relax on the terrace or in the bar, with a drink and chat with your fellow guests.
